Downtown Golden is where you'll find El Callejon Latin Restaurant.

Do you have a go to restaurant that you love but don't get to frequent often? Well, El Callejon is my go to restaurant that I have to visit whenever I'm in Golden Colorado! They are a small restaurant that has exceptionally authentic Latin food right on the Main Street in Downtown Golden. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is indoor and outdoor seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I never have to wait more than a few minutes and my custom order is handed to me. I usually get the food to go because my entire clan of family and friends love this place as much as I do and I can't enjoy the food without them! I order everyone's favorite and we have a big fun meal together!

I was looking for some good vegetarian options while we were adventuring in Golden. I came upon El Callejon and decided to check it out on a Friday afternoon. This place is a literal hole in the wall with a few tables. Don't be fooled, though! This small restaurant packs major flavor into its food. There are ample vegetarian options too. I opted for the veggie burrito. It comes filled with beans, peppers, onions, cheese, rice and probably a few other things I've missed. The sauce on it is delightful. My wife got a chicken quesadilla which came with 3 different sauces and she absolutely devoured it. The food came out fast and the prices were great for the portion sizes. Would definitely dine here again.

This is a hidden gem! After trying many Latin restaurants around the Denver area we were always extremely disappointed until we discovered El Callejon. The food is actually AUTHENTIC and tastes delicious, everything is so fresh, the mango juice was also amazing and tastes natural. The owners were extremely kind. We will definitely make the drive back!

Delicious Latin food! Stopped in for a quick bite mid-afternoon. Food was fresh and full of flavor! Super Arepa and tacos were top notch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Tiny place with only 4 tables and a few more on the sidewalk, but well worth the experience![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This might be some of the best food I've ever had. Green chile tamale was outstanding. Vegetarian super arepa was incredible. It's going to be hard to have Mexican food anywhere else after this. Super friendly and cheap too!

Pork Pupusa, with curtido, salsa and a cream salsa

This is a small shop that is only open for take out (they closed their dining tables) and there are only 2 tables outside with a few seats. Let me preface this with the food here is pretty much all frozen and reheated. I wish I knew that before I came but I quickly figured out that they offer frozen takeaway that you can cook at home that they will provide instructions for. I had two pork pupusas which were $7 each, which is outrageous but they were just ok. The filling was fine but the curtido (slaw) was not like typical Salvadoran curtido and the red salsa was more to the likes of marinara sauce. The lady taking the orders at the counter was very rude and unfriendly. After each item ordered she would interrupt you talking to yell to the back what to take out of the freezer and throw on the stove. Overall, the food is just ok but I wouldn't return. I hate to leave a poor review for a small business but there's no need for the attitude.

I was so excited to see this little Salvadoran spot in Golden! There are no tables inside to sit at (location is very small). However, it was a nice day out and there are some tables outside you can sit at. I tried the chicken arepa and chicken pupusa. Both items were delicious and filling! The curtido (pickled veg) was also good. As a Salvadoran myself, trust me! ;) A good spot that's worth checking out. I would definitely come back here next time I'm in the area.

Just had a couple of arepas from this place and let me tell you.... Wow! Most delicious bite I've had in a while! Authentic Latin flavors and great service! Didn't have to wait long either, and it was made to order. I'm looking forward to tasting more of their menu. Excellent!

Pork tamale was just okay. Not that much meat and the flavor of the masa wasn't my favorite. Was expecting more for a $6.50 tamale.

Best food in Golden and the owners are great. It's too bad their line isn't as long as D Deli but that just means we get to eat sooner.

The…read morestress of the tests and the concerns over memory problems had understandably been making his dad anxious. So, we decided to take him for a relaxing evening for some "home cooking;" his dad is from Colombia. I'd driven by this place for years, always thought it was cute, but never had been in to try it out. Well, the inside is even cuter than the curbside! We were quickly greeted and shown to a table. It was around 8 on a Friday night. The service was just what my friend's dad needed, joking around in Spanish and answering random questions that an older person might have when seeing food they grew up with and hadn't seen in a while... and, then, the food. I'm not familiar with Colombian cuisine, so I wanted to try something traditional. The presentation was sizable and I really like color on a plate. Then, it was flavorful and filling?! YUM. We walked out of the experience laughing and purely delighted at having had a great night in sharing a unique experience. Strongly suggest folks swinging through, when you're in the neighborhood... or, give yourself a special occasion and make a trip!

It was a little bit of everything and I was in heaven! I'm a soup girl and had previously had home made sancocho and loved it. I was really excited to see this on the menu, especially for a cold night! The patacones were delicious as well, especially with the chicharron. Would definitely come back again! I would love to try one of their platters.

Last Sunday (on the day many were getting ready for their Super Bowl gatherings), I was busy running some errands in Sunnyside neighborhood. All of a sudden, the thought of eating to entertain my 70% empty stomach hit me, I searched for the word "empanada" as I wanted some finger food and this restaurant came up in my search. Upon finding out that it was about 5-10 minutes away from where I was, it was a no brainer to me. This is a Venezuelan restaurant with almost 5-star review. Not knowing much about Venezuelan cuisine, my first thought was that they might have similar dishes as the surrounding South American countries like Columbia do. But most of all, I was so eager to try their empanadas. I've had Argentinian, El Salvadorian, Columbian and Nicaraguan versions of empanadas in the past. I wondered how different Venezuelan ones would be... I was warmly greeted by a young lady upfront upon arrival. This is a small/family style restaurant. The number of tables is very limited but you can sit outside as long as the weather permits. There was a large table of 7-9 people having a birthday party. I think I hit the place during the peak lunch time. Their empanadas are priced at $8 range. This was a bit pricey to me at the first glance but since I didn't know what kind of portion size they'd be made in, I thought I'd give them a try. I got me Reina Pediada, Sweet Domino and Fish. The total came to $27 with some change. Yup, you usually don't pay this much for a few to several empanadas but hey, like I said, I decided not to judge at that point. The young lady who took my order impressed me with some careful attention to detail. I placed my sunglasses at the ordering counter where the space was very limited. She had to move them just a little when she placed the credit card receipt for me to sign it. "I worked in the optics before." is what she said when she gently placed my sunglasses a little to the side in a very careful way. What a kind/considerate gesture that was! This kind of minor and yet incredible care didn't escape my notice. Thank you!!! When my food was ready, the same young lady handed me my bag. It was quite heavy. As soon as I got to my car, I opened it and there they were; my beautiful empanadas were large and dense/heavy!! They appeared to be all deep-fried so I wonder if Venezuelan style empanadas are all that way? Not sure. Anyway, I was on my way to a job duty so I had to eat quickly. I started to take a bite out of each one and ohhh yes, they were dense with a lot of fillings inside. Although I must frankly say that I like the flaky baked kind of empanadas more, these Venezuelan ones were equally impressive. Yes, this was a surprise find. I will definitely stop by here when I'm in the neighborhood for sure.
