El Campanario is one of two Mexican restaurants I very much enjoy. This place has been good to us all the time. Tonight I ordered the chiles gueritos, stuffed with shrimp. They were delish. Bon ordered the tostadas de ceviche de camaron. Delish. And I have found their Negra Modelo chavelas to be the best in town. Nice and cold. Bon order the Cadillac margarita, nice and strong. Finished up the meal with a cup of joe and fried ice cream. I have NEVER had a bad food or service experience here. I don't expect perfection either, but the food is always good, hot and served on a timely basis. And the service is always friendly. Then again, I always greet everyone as we walk in. Even the cooks in back. I offer a holler coming in and a holler good night walking out. Prices are not inexpensive, but not pricey either. To me, the price is well reflected according to what we've always ordered. The staff has always been great and the food delish. This place , is well worth the price. Got into Indio last night for a pit stop on the way to Huntington Beach from Vegas. This spot was right by our motel and we were craving Mexican food. Went in around 9:30, they closed at 10, but welcomed us. The waitstaff was very friendly. Immediately ordered drinks! The Don Julio Margarita, I would highly recommend. I ordered the Mojarra Frita (whole fried Tilapia) and my girl had a Chicken Chimichanga. The food was awesome!! Their house salsa is delicious! And the homemade hot sauce the gave me for the fish was amazing (if you like heat). We were very pleased with the prices too! 43$ for the two of us with meals and drinks (1 beer and the Margarita). I been going to El Campanario for a few years now and for the most part I had a good experience. We did notice the increase of prices recently but we still support their business. I had 1 bad incident where I order Agua Chiles and the shrimp was still raw. I called them to let them know, so they can be aware. I didn't ask for a refund or anything. We just let the shrimp cook longer with the lime. After that experience we still ordered from them. We understand things happen. Food has always been great, pricey but good. Yesterday I ordered food to go ($77 with tip), and it included Agua Chiles, those are my husband's favorite. I ordered Camarones A La Diabla (very good). When my husband got home from work and wanted to eat his Agua Chiles, he noticed there was no shrimp. He poured the agua chiles in a bowl, just to make he wasn't going crazy. Nothing! No shrimp, only cucumbers, the onion etc. By that time it was too late to call, as they were closed. So my husband pour it back to the container so I can call the following day (today) We didn't want the owners to think we were scamming them. I called the restaurant and one of the owners answered and I explained the situation. He said it sounded weird but to bring the container over. I just went over to the restaurant with the container of Agua Chiles. The hostess was very nice, and I explained to her how I had just talk to someone on the phone. I told her they can use the juice, cucumbers from the container I brought, all I needed is the shrimp as it was missing. Very nicely she said, it was ok that they would make a new one. She took the one I brought and handed to the owner. I saw both of the owners looking at it, and exchanging looks. Almost like they didn't believe it. I been coming for years and never asked for a refund or complained besides the raw shrimp. The Agua Chiles are $20 or else I wouldn't have even bother to complain. I wasn't asking to make me a brand new order, simply add the shrimp. The owners saw me, and didn't bother to come to apologize. I have no reason to lie and for the owners not to even acknowledge me, did not sit well with me. Truly disappointed how the owners did not handle this better, as they saw me standing there and stared at me but no apology. Most likely we will not be returning back. read more

Hit and miss sometimes it's good sometimes it's bad . Lots of attitude from the owners sons or relatives that work here. So obvious they are related and can't get fired. Great authentic Mexican food restaurant. A friend brought me here claiming this place had good food. She was right! I knew immediately when I walked in and saw the food people were eating on the way to my table. We ordered a couple appetizers. All came out piping hot and fresh. Also, delicious. I really enjoyed the stuffed peppers. For my meal I had a combination cheese enchiladas and sopes. The meal overall was good. Wasn't crazy about the sopes. I've had better. Exceptional Fajitas which it what I like best.. This is more of an authentic Mexican restaurant as opposed to the taco trendy places of El Torito, Chevy's, Etc. Good sized portion with good flavor. Not a fan of chips served cold but they will warm them up on request. Its larger than most Mexican restaurants perhaps an old Carrows. Its not the cheapest price but likely the best value for fajitas on the eastern side of the Coachella Valley. The location is on Indio Blvd & Avenue 44 and may get extra points for being just a few miles from my house. This place looks like a diner when you walk in the door but around the corner there is a full bar. The Long Beach Ice Tea is superb, highly recommend if you like strong drinks. I was here about two years ago and my memory did not fail me. It's on Indio Blvd. and it's good Mexican food. Marcos, our waiter, and all the staff were great. Food did not disappoint. We had the chimichanga, the sope and chile relleno combo, and the beef and shrimp molcajete. OMG! Sooo good, but the molcajete was also spicy so caution to those who aren't big on spicy! But, for me, it was just perfect! Last time we came we had mostly seafood and it was also great. Will be back soon! read more

Food is good not great, the service isn't good for what's expected. My experience wasn't great with the owner. My girlfriend ordered a torta that turned out to be something she didn't like and asked the waiter if something could be done about it. He said he would take it off, later once we were going to pay we were charged the torta therefore we told them it was going to be taken off by the waiter. The owner came to check out the situation and he started yelling at my girlfriend claiming that the tortas they made we're never complained about. We simply wanted a refund since we had been told we were going to receive it. I had heard many complaints about the owner before and never thought i would experience it.
