We enjoyed The Cantina. We arrived around 1 pm on a very hot weekday. Outdoor seating, overlooking the Polo Fields were available but it was just too hot to sit outdoors. The place wasn't busy and we were seated inside right away. Water, Chips and Salsa was brought out right away. We were here with another couple. They ordered special Chips that came with Salsa, Queso and Guacamole. They shared it with us and it was quite tasty. My wife and I shared a bowl of Chicken Tortilla Soup and a Southwestern Salad. Both were hearty and very good. Our friends share an order of Tacos and they enjoyed them. I would recommend The Cantina. read more

SHORT ANSWER: YES, Maybe not a tourist spot but for sure an excellent locals spot to hang out, check hours and matches being played if you're into polo. LOCATION: kind of hidden away, but once you know it, you will come back. It's been a bit confusing over the last few years but now they are in a really good place I think. FACILITY: very very casual, clothing is required however.. but pretty much wear what makes you happy cuz no one cares if you're wearing Prada or Dickies. MENU: Limited, all very good. FOOD PREP: as you would expect, very nice and an upgrade from years past with help from a few friends from the neighbors... lots of transition happening with ownerships, turf wars, and Coachella festival. FOOD QUALITY: very good... LIBATIONS: very good but a bit on the $$$ side. I had just returned home and was airport tired so it was all worth it and I got my medication. Our experience here was truly amazing. The staff was incredibly friendly, and our waiter made us feel welcomed and well taken care of the entire time. We ordered the steak and eggs ($18), which were delicious, and I had the fish tacos that were just as tasty. The pricing is very reasonable for the area, especially considering the beautiful views of the polo grounds. The mimosas were great, and you could definitely taste the alcohol in the best way. We also had an Arnold Palmer, which was incredibly refreshing on a hot day. We were able to watch the polo game, which was phenomenal. I believe the games take place every Sunday morning through April. We loved our experience and cannot wait to come back. This place is terrible and customer service is nonexistent. First of all, we were celebrating a birthday and requested outdoor seating. A polo game was going on, people were occupying the tables, and nobody wanted to get up... so they told us our table wasn't available and we'd have to sit inside. Apparently, actually holding our table wasn't an option, much less telling all the people who were sitting on the patio not ordering anything to get up and move. So we sat down inside anyway because we were hungry and they immediately asked us if we were ready to order. Someone in our party ordered an appetizer, and then we mentioned we wanted separate tabs... at this, the server got a bad attitude and basically tried telling us she couldn't (or just didn't want to) because of the policy at the bottom of the menu, which was a mandatory 20% tip policy for parties of 8+. I understand why places do this, but we were the only people there actually ordering. Regardless, the attitude was ridiculous. Then we asked for a little time to look at the menu, and were pretty much ignored for the next 15-20 minutes. I can't comment on the rest of the menu because that was about as far as we got, so we paid for the appetizer and decided to eat elsewhere. BTW: $12 for a small cup of steamed broccoli with a splash of buffalo sauce? Well, that's all they made off of us because they lost our business. And hopefully yours, too. Don't eat here. read more

We visited The Cantina for Sunday Brunch on a beautiful breezy sunny morning. The polo and the polo announcer were TERRIFIC! Make reservations ahead to sit alongside the field for best viewing. The announcer might as well be the John Madden of polo. A professional! The staff are kind but maybe overworked. We watched tables seated after us receive their orders first. We had to ask if our order was lost. Apparently there were ordering system issues. The food. Ahhh the food. I come to it last because it is truly disappointing. My breakfast burrito, ordered with sausage, arrived (I think) with bacon. It was a large flavorless burrito with plenty of bland scrambled eggs, some hash browns and maybe some bacon. A fellow diner's chicken salad sandwich on a croissant paired with onion rings looked great but sat unfinished. "Flavorless" was the summary. And who leaves onion rings behind? One member of the foursome enjoyed their carne assada. I can't comment on the cocktails. Maybe that is the way to go! So, come for the polo but look elsewhere is a delicious brunch is what you desire. read more

Staff was amazing! Chips are made in house, and the queso, guacamole, and salsa were all good. The Pink Mamasita cocktail was great--I ordered mine without the agave, and it was delicious. The room opens up to a patio with polo fields and an amazing sunset view. Food... The fish tacos with the cheese "tortillas" were very salty. I ordered one with a corn tortilla and one with the cheese tortilla, but they made both with the cheese tortilla. The Parmesan flavor was overpowering. My wife ordered the carne asada tacos, and the beef was overcooked and tough; she couldn't finish the meal. The beans were right out of a can... Disappointing to say the least. Simply adding some cumin, chopped onions, and maybe a little shallot would jazz them up and make them taste like the cook actually likes refried beans. We love the room, drinks and the bar are very welcoming. The meal we ate wouldn't be worth ordering again. Great place for drinks.... And chips... read more

Local restaurant where the food is good, the Waite Staff is great and the view is like no other. Weekends are busy because you can always catch a polo match...feet from your table. Dogs and kids are always welcomed which is great for local families. Shout out to Tito at the bar and Lupito...always friendly and accommodating. read more

The food is inexpensive. The menu is VERY LIMITED. The service was friendly, but staff is unfortunately inexperienced. (I was asked if I wanted olives with my G&T?) I was surprised by the number of children, even toddlers allowed into the bar area. The light level was seriously too bright. I mean interrogation too bright. And while the food is inexpensive, that doesn't apply to the adult beverages. $13.00 for a very light pour. Sorry Cantina. One and done. PS. Management needs to observe how dark the parking lot is at night. A couple of strategically positioned solar lights could save someone a nasty fall. read more

Me and my boyfriend have made it a tradition to come here for our anniversary. Food and service is always a 10/10. We always order the tres amigos which come with queso, salsa & guac (the queso is so good, trust me). The sunset and ambiance on the polo grounds was phenomenal. They should've called it 'Mexi-can't' food. As a real Mexican this was no where near authentic. We were around the area for work so we stopped by. We waited for salsa and toppings for over 30 minutes and they forgot the guacamole by the time we got them my tacos they were cold. My boyfriend got a California burrito it took them 3 tries and they still got it wrong first try no sour cream second try he asked for no lettuce it came back with it third and final try they forgot the rice by that time we both were full of just asking the manager and waitress we ate what was given despite not enjoying it. Great atmosphere! Went on a Saturday night there was a DJ and a good mix of people dancing and others relaxing on the patio. They have corn hole set up on the lawn which made for fun with families or friends. Menu is diverse (limited GF options) but to the point with a good variety of wines and cocktails. Staff was friendly and seemed to know the locals well. They could have used one or two more bussers to turn tables faster for the servers but understandable for the times. WHAT HAPPENED HERE???? Returned for the winter and came for our favorite food, drink and Polo. Has been one of our favorite spots in the desert. This was the worst burger and fries I have ever eaten. The fries tasted like warmed up frozen fries. The burger was about the same No draft beer, half of a bar made a terrible skinny girl margarita. Menu was so limited it made no sense. There were about 6 other people here on a normally busy Sunday. They might want to think about another business venture. The staff was great. Very friendly and attentive. I felt sorry for them. This restaurant is inside the polo fields where Coachella takes place, so it is closed when the concerts are happening. The margaritas were great, and so were the fish tacos and carnitas tacos. When asked if we wanted "chips and salsa" for the table, they brought us the $14 appetizer of guacamole, salsa, and cheese dip--this was sneaky if you ask me when most places just provide chips and salsa, or at a minimum it would be a small fee. That said, the guacamole was good. We ate outside, which was great because we got to see the setup for Coachella coming up. However, the flies were unbearable, and they need the little table fans that keep the flies away. Also, items on the menu were not available because they were clearing everything out for Coachella. The Cantina used to be a great place to visit but standards, quality and customer service have all gone downhill in the last couple of years. Service has become painfully slow. Drinks take forever to get and you'll wait anywhere between 30-45 minutes before having food orders taken (if you're lucky). In some cases the servers have still been somewhat polite, although they are not efficient. However, we experienced the WORST service EVER today by a server named Marisela during Sunday morning Polo. She did a miserable job of getting us looked after and her truly hellish attitude was the worst our party of five had ever seen from a server. Upon seeking clarification on the hours of the breakfast menu; and inquiring for a second (or third) time about why we still didn't have our drinks yet (after waiting for over 40 minutes), Marisela became even more snappy, impatient and extremely rude. Marisela yelled at one of our party that she should have ordered breakfast when she'd been at the table previously, although she hadn't even given our friends a chance to order in the first place before she stomped off after the first time we asked about getting our drinks. Her overall behaviour was reprehensible. She should not be working in customer service and is definitely not an asset to this establishment (as another reviewer recently suggested). Do not waste your time or money here. While the views are certainly worth it, go somewhere else where they still value your business and care about customer service and satisfaction. read more

In the meantime, the staff seriously brought 5 other people's orders of food to our table, not knowing what table goes with what food. First time here tonight. Wouldn't even know this was here if it wasn't for Yelp. Great Mountain scenery & good service. Food was simply okay. I had the avocado shrimp melt. It was a little too rich for my taste, maybe it had too much mayonnaise. I asked for grilled onions to be added to the sandwich but they must've forgot them. Fries were too dry & over salted. Margaritas were just okay as well, way too much ice to charge $12! I would give this a solid 3 1/2 stars. I will be back to try something else next time around. read more

The Cantina has a beautiful view and it's so fun to watch the Polo matches on the weekend. The problem however is the breakfast during the weekend morning matches. It could be so much better if they have a little more customer service. They need more than one waiter and another busboy. The only kind of eggs you can get are scrambled! The breakfast tacos are supposed to be scrambled eggs with your choice of bacon or sausage on them. The last two times I have ordered the tacos they have forgotten the meat. Like I said it wouldn't take much to improve the experience. The poor waiter was getting so much hassle from all the customers and he was trying to do his best. Why would a restaurant only offer scrambled eggs? Because they don't want to take the time to crack an egg and make over easy!? Lazy and lack of regard for the customers. You might have to spend another buck or two but you may get repeat customers. We will not be having breakfast here again and will never recommend to our friends or family. read more

The folks there make you feel special and also like you're visiting friends with a view that you honestly can't beat. The problem with the food is that it's not for a ton of care to it. The steak was clearly not fresh and not very good. Guac needed more than just mashed avo, maybe some seasoning? It's the little things like that to make this place even more amazing. I had never been to The Cantina before. Using Google Maps, it was easily found, but friends who used another map service and were sent every which way, so I recommend previewing the route before actually driving it. (It's on the El Dorado Polo Grounds as a reference point.) The venue was wonderful with indoor and outdoor seating. For anyone who enjoys amazing views - visit the back patio! The back patio boasted beautiful views of the mountains, a spectacular sunset, and front row seats to the polo field. There was a covered concrete patio with tables, as well as a lawn area without tables/chairs (for those more adventurous). The food was delicious. Quality ingredients clearly came through in the cuisine. We enjoyed every bite! Most remarkable of all was the amazing staff. Seriously! The staff was super friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Took my boys here after the MLS NEXT soccer showcase and want to drive the 2.5 hours again just to eat HERE!!! Everything was so fresh and flavorful, and the service was so good! Everyone was super nice and went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of, even if they weren't our server (who was incredible). I'm a fish taco snob and I can say that their battered fish taco was the best I've ever had! It tasted like real quality fish, but not too "fishy"; battered just enough without taking the flavor away. The tortillas tasted homemade and the sauce was heavenly! We got guacamole and chips for the appetizer which surprisingly came with real FRESH Chips AND homemade FLAVORFUL guacamole, a side of nacho cheese dipping sauce, and salsa! My twins got the burgers which had HUGE patties, I was surprised they devoured the whole thing. They raved about the fries, and even my picky eater who never finished his food, ate another round of chips WITH his scrumptious burger and fries!
