If you like piña coladas and getting caught in the rain

I love finding new Mexican restaurants to frequent! This one happens to be close to my mom's house and I'm staying up here with her for a little while because she's having some health issues (please don't smoke, I'm telling you!). The staff is very friendly and efficient! They work hard to make sure everyone dining in, grabbing takeout, and using 3rd party delivery services are happy with their food and the timeliness. They also have some great specials! They have Margarita Mondays, as well as Taco Tuesdays (99¢ tacos!). On Tuesdays they also have piña coladas on special! While waiting on my takeaway order, I sat at the bar and had a piña colada. I watched her make it for me. They do not use some cheap piña colada mix. Nope! They literally blend up coconut juice, slices of fresh pineapple, and tequila, and then garnish with an additional fresh pineapple slice. Sooooo yummy! I think this may be my new Tuesday spot while I'm helping my mom!

Tried Las Penas for the first time today after getting a deal where where got two $25 gift certificates ($50 total) for only $25. My wife and I both ordered 22 oz. draft beers (they called them "medium") and 12 inch Chori burritos. The beer came out in ice cold mugs with little foam. We were also given complimentary warm chips and salsa while we waited for our meal. The burritos came out very hot and fresh, with a variety of flavors that played well off each other. The rice was cooked just right, and the steak and chicken were tender and juicy, without being chewy. The small crumbles of chorizo really put this dish over the top, as did the hot white queso poured over the top. The "salad" of lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, and diced onions and tomatoes added a coolness to the heat (not spice) of the burrito. The best part was, we both had leftovers to take home for dinner later. Overall, the ambiance is about what you'd expect of a Mexican restaurant, meaning pretty casual. They had 2 big screen TVs, and both booth and table seating was available. Even if we didn't still have another $25 gift certificate to use, we would definitely still return to Las Penas

    Cucumber Jalapeño Margarita

We all agreed that this was the most fresh, delicious margarita we've ever had. We ordered the cucumber jalapeño margarita and it was hand crafted by an amazing bartender. The food was fantastic as well. Will be visiting here again when in town!

This little Mexican restaurant is somewhere to go for variety. The menu is a little overwhelming for me with how many items they had. But, it's good to have options. We did take out, so I can't speak for what the restaurant looks like inside. My husband had a seafood dish, which he couldn't tell me exactly what it was. It came with a broth and then seafood in whole (like a full shrimp, including head and shell). He was not a fan of having to prep all the seafood, but he said the dish tasted good. My son got chicken fajitas. They were cooked well, and included a lot of stuff to put on them....but not tortilla shells. I had gotten the Speedy Gonzalez combo which was a chicken taco and a chicken enchilada. The taco was very basic but good, the enchilada the same. I wish there had been just a bit more of the sauce over it, but it was tasty. We have many more items to try here, so we will come back again. The prices are also really good as well.

This restaurant is A-OK for me! I ordered the shrimp fajitas which came screamin' hot! Service was lightning fast too. My tortillas were hard and brittle on one side; perhaps they were left on the warmer too long? The salsa and guac were delicious. The guac was nice and chunky. The hubs ordered the taquitos which he said were good, but nothing to write home about. The menu was overwhelming. Too many choices...ahhh! Overall, this was a typical Ohio Mexican restaurant. Don't get me wrong, Las Penas had very tasty food, but there just wasn't anything super unique about it.

Combination #1. Beef enchilada, chicken enchilada, taco, rice and beans.

Complimentary chips and salsa were plentiful and the salsa was good. Our combo meals were average - beef enchilada was good, chicken enchilada was bland. Rice and beans were fine but not great. Friendly service but it took much quite awhile to get our food on a Tues when they weren't busy.

Great place. Polite staff, but the food was really great. If you are used to the other Mexican restaurants around here then dont expect the food to be the same. It is much higher quality and better choices instead of just more choices. Highly recommended

I'm from San Diego but I heard about this place from a friend of mine here in Canton. They've only been open a short time but I can tell you the food is great in the family that runs it is really warm and friendly.

My boyfriend and I selected this restaurant for Taco Tuesday night. The service was okay, the food was okay and the margaritas were decent.

The restaurant includes a full bar which is accessible from inside the restaurant proper but also has a separate entrance from outside. There are plenty of comfortable tables and booths at which to sit while you dine. The menu is pretty extensive, check out my photos for the entire eight page menu. Upon being seated we were immediately brought chips and salsa. I asked for some queso dip to go with the chips as well. The salsa was pretty ordinary but the queso dip was very delicious. Having not dined here before I asked the server for suggestions. He recommended Molcajete which I enjoyed. It is steak, chicken, shrimp and vegetables and cheese served in a mortar which appears to be made of volcanic rock. The liquid in the mortar was boiling when I received it and continued to boil throughout most of my meal. The dish is accompanied with rice and beans, pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole salad. It is served with warm flour tortillas. It's a whole lot of food for $14. My wife and my mother both ordered El Campesino Fajitas which is beef, chicken and shrimp cooked with onions and bell peppers. It was accompanied with all the same items as my Molcajete. My father ordered the Quesadilla Supreme. It's a huge flour tortilla grilled and stuffed with cheese, mushrooms, chopped beef, onions and vegetables. It was accompanied by rice, lettuce, guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream. Everyone enjoyed their food. The portions are huge so we all had enough left over for another meal the next day. Prices are very reasonable. I enjoyed my entree but to be honest I found it to be a little bland. My wife felt the same about hers. I added lots of delicious hot sauce and some black pepper to enhance the taste. The service was excellent throughout our visit, it was very fast and friendly. Our server was very attentive from start to finish. 3.5 stars founding up to 4 for the exceptional service and great value.

The waitress spoke no English at all and had a very difficult time just taking our drink orders. My wife ordered a small lime Margherita, and I ordered a small beer. She brought a medium gold Margherita and a large beer (and charged us as such). The waitress had to get help to take our food order (everyone got tacos). My wife's came with cheese on hers, mine didn't. Our friend got the ground beef tacos and they were so salty that she couldn't finish hers. The waitress didn't come back to check on us. When our friend and I went up front to pay our checks we waited 10 minutes without a response. So my friend called the restaurant on the phone and explained why she called. The employee just hung up on her without saying a word. Then they sent our waitress to cash us out, which she had no problem doing. We had no opportunity to speak with management. I would understand (maybe) if the restaurant was busy, but there were 5 tables with customers and 3 waitresses. Was it solely the fault of the waitress for not speaking English, or the restaurant's fault for knowingly putting her in the poor position that she was put into? Either way, we won't be back.
