Really enjoyed Isla's this evening. We grabbed a reservation as this spot can get busy and received a prompt email confirmation. We started with salads and excellent ceviche and "Down South" oysters as we found the pimento cheese and bacon topping to be a fun twist on oysters Rockefeller. We had the 16 and 13 year old in tow and while our kids have open minds and pallets when it comes to food, there were some slight questions about the menu options. There was a kids menu that was standard and I'm sure would accommodate most kids; but, I would say Isla's menu is sophisticated and can be appreciated by a more mature audience. Our 13 year old ordered the shrimp and grits and won the best entree of the night. It's a nice twist using a grit cake as opposed to traditional shrimp and grits but the flavor of the tomato and chorizo gravy along with the texture of the crispy grit cake was an interesting and nice change from the norm. I will definitely go back and try additional entrees. Overall, all the dishes were well put together, well seasoned and paired with a nice wine list that had variety for all tastes. Last, I will say the service was among the best we've had locally. Brandon was attentive, informative and accommodating throughout our evening experience. First time to Isla's and very satisfied. From the moment we walked in the staff was so helpful. I said it was cold and the hostess adjusted the AC! Our waiter, Chris , was just the right amount of attentive. He explained all the oysters . When I ordered the sea bass I was informed that it wasn't Chilean, which I knew it wouldn't be, but I really appreciated that we were told. The berry salad was good but I expected more than just strawberries. The oysters, and fish with risotto were delicious . The atmosphere is nice, not too loud. I recommend. read more

After hearing about this place from our friends we decided to give it a try. The place is cozy with a good atmosphere, we timed it just right because we were promptly seated. We started with a glass of Padrillos Malbec for me and Louis Jadot Pinot Noir for the wife. For appetizer we enjoyed a very delicious dozen of Ostras Borrachas/drunken oysters. For entrees we both ordered Garden Salad with champagne vinaigrette and she had citrus vinaigrette dressings and our dishes were Lobster Ravioli and I had the Parmesan Crusted Halibut, both cooked to perfection (wife mentioned her Lobster ravioli not only was topped with more lobster, but was best she's had). For dessert we shared a Hazelnut Copa (real good). The service was outstanding; our server Leroy was knowledgeable, and took the time to explain each dish and help us with our selections. Isla's is our new oyster bar, seafood restaurant. Not really new anymore since has been open at least two years, but excellent. Great service. Great food. And love the friendly ambience with a good local vibe. Just visited after the new year and was able to get Stone crabs that were huge. Also, had the honey mustard shrimp over corn which was delicious. My husband had their special pasta diss that night with lump crab meat lobster and shrimp. They have a great wine list with various price points. They even take Reservations now. read more

What a great restaurant to try during "Restaurant Week". I will say I was pleasantly surprised but mostly because I am not an Oyster person. Well none of us ordered Oysters and we were all pleased with our food. The corn fritters were not soggy like some but maintained the crunchy texture they needed. As you can see from my pictures the Shrimp Cocktail was for a king. The shrimp were gorgeous and tasted great. For my main course I tried the Salmon which is often my go to, and it was delicious. If the service would have been as good as the food I would have given them 5 's. Unfortunately our waiter forgot about us when our neighboring table arrived. There were some menu adjustments that had to be made and because he forgot to make them he just never returned. Overall I would strongly recommend this restaurant, from the glass wear to the presentation it is a gem in Spartanburg. read more

My husband and I had a date night here and really enjoyed it! The ambiance was fun and the service was friendly. We sat at one of their window seats since it was busy. Didn't mind it though! I got oysters to start that were plump and delicious. My husband got the red pepper sea bass and I ordered the herb crusted salmon. Both were delicious and we finished our plates! Our drinks were really good too. He got an old fashioned and I got white wine and ended with an espresso martini that was sooo good Overall the quality of seafood was very impressive for being 4 hours away from the beach! lol We will definitely be back! read more

Honestly haven't had a chance to eat here but stopped by for a drink. The staff was very friendly and helpful selecting. Not a great IPA selection but a lot of choices of run of mill beer. ( Isla ipa was good)Has a nice vibe. The back courtyard is very cool spot but I'm afraid the effort to use it falls short. Two couches to sit on, only one actually has a cushion and it was covered with bird poop. The tree provided great dappled shade but the area under it was unseemly, any effort to beautify with plants or flowers would make huge difference in ambience. Upgraded and little increase in the casual seating and clean it up a bit and you'll have a gold mine. I'll definitely be back to try the food. read more

Spartanburg's newest restaurant ISLA ON THE SQUARE opened this week downtown. They created a lovely interior dining area with a large bar and seating both upstairs and downstairs. It was loud when we were there because it was a big crowd. Upon arriving we were seated with a small cocktail and oyster menu. The hostess said our server would bring the dinner menu. (This ended up not being helpful for us as I would have ordered an appetizer from the dinner menu). My dinner partner ordered a dozen steamed oysters.($30) and one of their special cocktails. I had a glass of wine. They have a large wine selection. The oysters were eaten before we ever received the dinner menu. (Again, we will request the menu when seated the next time so I can plan my entire meal at one time without waiting.) I'm not sure why it was done that way. To be fair, they have only been open 3 days so there are things that have to be worked through. For or two entrees we had Clam Linguine ($27) and Sesame Ginger Shrimp Salad ($18). Both dishes were delicious. Sorry no pictures. I was distracted. The Clam Linguine had an amazing lemon garlic broth with a dozen clams and 2 very small pieces of grilled crostini. I would have liked to have more crostini to soak up that broth. The Sesame Ginger Shrimp (my partner ordered) had 6 Large fried shrimp crispy breaded with sesame seeds on a bed of salad. (I didn't eat it however it smelled wonderful!) For dessert we shared a Blueberry/Blackberry Cream Brûlée . It was perfect! This is an upscale oyster and seafood restaurant. They serve oysters sourced from Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, New England to name a few and fresh fish. The manager stated the entree menu would change several times a year as fresh seafood is sourced. This is not a $1 oyster or fried seafood restaurant. It is a welcomed and needed upscale dining experience for Spartanburg. The managers visited the tables. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable. We will be back. read more

First time visitors last night. We waited a looong time for things to shake out and the local excitement to pass. Islas was just average. Oysters on the half were presented well, they have a great selection . Oysters from the grille were nasty. They arrived cold. Entrees were so so. I had cod puttanesca, it was cold. She had trumpet risotto with shrimp. Risotto was dry and clumpy, trumpets were NOT similar to scallops and were rubbery. The big disappoint was service. We sat at the bar. No one told us there were 25lbs of fresh soft shell crabs in the kitchen, no one told us they flew in blue fin tuna for sashimi. We love both of those things ‍We were told this after we ordered, and for that reason I won't go back. read more

Went on a Saturday night expecting this restaurant to be slow since it didn't seem to have alot of activity. It didn't have activity cause it was under construction and we had gone opening week by chance. I was pleasantly surprised with the ambience and energy in the building. We sat at the bar to avoid the long wait and enjoyed our time. We got a couple house cocktails, appetizer, and two entrees. After a concert in the park across the street we decided to give Isla's a shot. We had a dozen Blue Point oysters with the usual accompaniments. Oysters were cold and delicious. We tried crab stuffed mushrooms and Thai Curry Shrimp. Mushrooms lacked seasoning. One had breadcrumbs that were charred. The shrimp was a bit over done, and I didn't get curry at all. Atmosphere is very nice and relaxed. Very friendly yet professional wait staff was close by if needed but not hovering. We didn't get the oysters tonight but our meal was very good. The cognac tenderloin was cooked perfectly and the sesame ginger shrimp salad had colossal shrimp and hit the spot. I had what is now my new favorite cocktail named Premo's Punch". If you're the DD, it will not leave you wanting. We will return. Great ambiance for friends to get together and feel like you're at the beach but in downtown Spartanburg. Had a fantastic meal here, making it a new neighborhood favorite! We had a dozen oysters to start, and I loved the Chesapeake ones and my partner enjoyed the Long Island ones. My friend had the corn fritters, which were also yummy. The tempura was so so. For entrees, I had the linguine and clam sauce. It was nice, albeit small portion. My partner had the snapper and risotto, and said the snapper was awesome but the risotto was more like plain rice. My friend had the cod and it was divine. I also indulged in the poppy von redenbacher and it was delicious. The inside was also lovely. A great addition in spartanburg and our new favorite. Last night, four of us dined at ISLA ON THE SQUARE, a lovely new restaurant here in Spartanburg and I must say, it's a fantastic addition to the dining scene in town. To start, I enjoyed a cocktail called the Chupacabra, made with tequila and passion fruit. It was so well-crafted that I ended up ordering a few more! My friends tried various other drinks, and they must have liked them because they kept ordering and also trying new ones. We began our meal with a selection of fresh oysters, available in a few different varieties. For my main course, I had shrimp and grits. The chef had the brilliant idea to transform the grits into fried balls, paired with shrimp and an amazing sauce. It was quite a delight! The rest of the table enjoyed the pork tenderloin, which was tasty and well-cooked, the sea bass with a flavorful risotto, and the perfectly cooked swordfish. For dessert, we had a hazelnut creation that was so delicious we had to order a second one, though I can't recall the exact name. The atmosphere was lovely, with great décor, and the service was attentive. Our server, Olivia, made sure we were well taken care of throughout the evening.
