My honey and I both tried the molcajete mix and it was poorly served and no flavor. I was hungry so we ate the shrimp and some rice but we basically left it all. I've been three times. Tapatia with chicken was quite good, they were amenable to giving me the big tortilla bowl. The second time I had cheese enchiladas, my husband had fajitas tampaquena. The enchiladas were the best I've eaten in a long time, with flavorful rice and beans. I was eating the beef and onion off my husband's plate. I was surprised at the flavor, very good - but they DO put jalepeno slices in that make it too spicy for me. This third time he just had beef and shrimp fajitas. Outstanding!!! I was REALLY eating off his plate this time. Very tender beef, excellent flavor. For dessert the fried ice cream. First time I've had it where the crust on ice cream was crunchy. Delicious. We shall become regulars... Simple decor, family friendly, wait staff is on the ball and also cordial. Will go again and introduce friends to it. read more

Second time being here!!! First time service sucked and hair in my salsa!!!!! My niece wanted to go there for her bday dinner so after a year I decided to try it again!!! Wasn't busy at all today 15 min to get chips salsa and even longer for drinks while the waitresses stood around laughing and talking!! Then two of us were brought our plates 10 min before everyone else's food!! Which anyone with common sense we are there to have dinner together not separate!!! The worst service I have ever experienced, the moment we walked in a girl with black hair was our server she had the most stank face and attitude the entire time. No greeting no hello no nothing then their server Nicol continued to serve us and also had the worst attitude you can ever imagine. We ordered two drinks that did not taste right and politely asked to switch our drinks and they rudely said NO like we were refusing to pay or something. Its one thing to explain to someone that you refuse to do something its another thing to be bitchy and rude about it. We will never return this place, the worst customer service I've had, I've been to more expensive restaurants that gladly switch out your drink but this cheap ass place acts like its the end of the world. read more

EC lies within the corridors of the strip malls on Coffee, where traffic is busy and parking can be at a premium if during the rush hours. Within the area of the car wash and Tru Value there is the area just north where the food establishments lie, including EC. Both a dining area and a bar, it allows for a casual drink or a full flung dinner depending on what's the mood. It's a quaint place, and the environs are what's to be expected for a Mexican venue. We partook in carne Asada burritos which were thought to be an easy choice. Service was nice and friendly. However, regretfully the CAB was meh, where the rice totally overwhelmed the burrito, and the meat was minimal and mostly bland. While the chips were good, and the salsa flavor was balanced albeit not spicy, it couldn't make up for the lack of flavor of the burrito. Next time we may sit in the dining room and order to see if there's a difference, but at least at the bar the food was only ok. While we assume the kitchen is the same, we still want to give this another chance - maybe with something else. read more

Our server was Maria (red hair. Blonde streaks), I have called the restaurant no ones cared to call me back so instead I'll just go to Yelp.. She served my friend a plate, you could definitely see the confusion on her face as she was giving it to her, my friend didn't think much of it and began spreading Lime on her tacos and one girl even ate off for her plate, Maria- THE SERVER COMES BACK AND PHYSICALLY TAKES THE PLATE AND SERVES IT TO A TOTALLY DIFFERENT CUSTOMER/table...... that the first complaint. The next one is there was six of us we had asked her to split our checks. This server takes fifteen minutes to do this. Walks right passed our table after she finishes her conversation at the bar with a coworker, stares me dead in the face (I'm literally right next to the bar doors exit/entrance) with our checks. Goes outside (WITH OUR CHECKS STILL IN HAND) and goes and takes a shot with customers... my whole table witnessed this. I walked up to her as she still has alllllll of our checks, while she literally stopped at another table to laugh about some things, and said "are these our checks" she said "yes" I said "perfect I can take these, thank you" she has the audacity to tell me "it's okay, I've got it" and finally walks to our table to give us our checks..... the checks in which she added 18% gratuity to without telling us. (The MENU STATES PARTIES OF 8 or more.... There was 6!) The rest is little stuff but so the restaurant sees how crappy our service was I will document that as well... She Gave us three menus- there was 7 of us (to begin with, keep reading), she never came back I walked around the door to grab everyone menus.... I didn't realize I worked there (I have 4 years serving experience, this is not my job..) We asked for house made guacamole three times before we finally got it One girl asked for mole sauce on the side- she ordered it with her food---- she never got it until her dinner was done One girl had to leave to take her daughter to gymnastics literally 30 minutes or so after we arrived. She asked for her check. She waited ten minutes before asking the server if she had her check.. I got charged for two shots for a friend when I only told her I wanted to be charged for the one. Generally I do not complain about anything, I've left maybe three reviews on Yelp, I try to keep it to myself but the first two complaints are just not okay. I know COVID, people are short staffed, I get it.... However when there is two tables outside, and idk one table inside, plus our little party... it's not hard. Especially adding gratuity the server just did not care she knew she was getting taken care of regardless. I hope this catches the owners attention and he does something about it. People reading, it's not worth it. Save your money and go to a different restaurant, one where your server actually cares about your table. Not this BS. read more

Worst customer service!! When I arrived the waitress that sat me and friend down was not friendly at all! Ordered a strawberry corona-Rita and it didn't taste good at all!! Tried to tell the waitress I didn't like the drink and asked if I could switch out my drink and she literally told me no because my drink was "big and I added strawberry" made no sense at all! Asked to talk to the manager and the waitress first sent another person telling us the manager said we couldn't switch out our drinks. Hey El Caldazor , if you present a coupon to people you should have enough awareness that your coupon is not scannable . If you put it on the internet you'd think it would be accessible and if your waitress says it's ok before you order, maybe you should educate your staff as to what is acceptable and not acceptable so they can effectively tell the customers. Also coming out as a defensive , uneducated manager really makes you look bad , especially to customers who are frequent flyers at your restaurant and have never used a coupon in their past visits to your restaurant. Really poor customer service ! We have always loved to eat here ! Have had many family celebrations here with lots of family and friends! We love the waiting staff and the food! Finally we found THE perfect Mexican food. The service is impeccable, prices are great, and the chips salsa and bean dip well the best ever chips for sure! I had the shrimp molcajete and oh my gosh there were 10 huge shrimp floating in this sauce that I could literally dip anything into. Hubby had the chimichanga big crispy and full of delicious chicken rice and beans, he has been looking for one like this forever here, seems all the other ones were about 6 inches this was huge and greatly priced. To me, there are really only two Mexican restaurants in Modesto - El Cazador and San Jose Taqueria - SJT is in a separate category as it is a taqueria and El Caz is more of a traditional sit down. Here are the highlights: 1) Fresh Fruit Margs - They blow the lids off any of that mix crap and El Cazador always has at least 2 fresh fruit options to choose from. I suggest you super size it. 2) Carne Asada Tacos - Simple but perfected 3) Chipotle Burrito - If you like spicyness, this is for you! While the above are my fav items, the moral of this story is their Happy Hour. Holy sh*t you can't beat the prices for a small taco plate, tostada, nachos, etc.... they are bordering on fast food prices - one thing to remember though, you have to sit in the bar area to take advantage of the happy hour. First off let me start with I ONLY gave them 1 star because i had to in order to right this review.. The Restaurant looked good online I yelped it and seen food that looked good and many drinks. So I decided to try and Damn that was a BAD idea. The drinks were NOT good. My fajita Burrito was ONLY UNIONS! I complained and my waitress said "You are not the first person to complain about that" I would think they would fix the problem instead of charging so much for a ONION only burrito. My husbands food was so plain without flavor very blan I might as well made dinner myself atleast it would be free and taste good.. Leaving with a $60 bill and 100% dissatisfied. Really expensive for very small portions of food. My Quesadilla looked like it came from Taco Bell. My nachos had only a sprinkle of cheese and the chips tasted like they fried to many at once, they were even opaque. I tried El Cazador for the first time yesterday with my boyfriend. We started with the tableside guacamole, which is awesome. I like that you can customize the ingredients to your taste (no onion for me thanks!). I ordered an El Cazador margarita and he got the Cadillac - both grande. When they brought them out, they were so big I feared they would be $20 each, but Ashley (the BF :-) thought they would be a bargain even at that price. We were pretty shocked that they were only $10 apiece - the price of a regular cocktail at most restaurants. They were strong enough to taste the tequila, but not so strong that you stumbled out the door - we both thought they were really good! We also thought the food was pretty freaking good - the shrimp enchiladas with green sauce are bomb. In terms of service, we were there at 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon and there were quite a few people in both the bar side and the restaurant side. We were greeted and served right away, and everyone we dealt with was super nice and friendly. We have found our new Mexican food and margaritas go to hotspot! Loved it read more

Was really good food! Unfortunately the staff left some to be desired. We walked in and they told us to sit anywhere so we took the nearest booth. There as maybe two other tables with people at them. Not sure how many people were at the bar area but it was only about 2 o'clock so it couldn't have been that busy. It took about five minutes for us to get menus and then another five for them to ask about drinks. The waitress acted like she really didn't want to talk to us-which was reaffirmed when she switched tables with the older waitress. The second waitress was much better so that redeemed the experience. The food was really good! We both got burritos and then shared a side of beans and rice with our toddler. She got a little bit of each burrito(they were huge!) and a good portion of rice and beans-it was perfect! Will definitely be going back! read more

Lets see, they need more space, better lighting and handycap tables. but I LOVE THIS PLACE! My sister took me here about a year ago and my wife and I feel inlove with the place. the food was hot and on time. the Drinks were a hit out of the ball park, and the service was warm and helpful. My wife ordered a large Margarita and got this bird bath size drink. she was so happy! lol but yes indeed this place has good food at ok prices. but they need a bigger place. other people love this place as well and it fills up quickly. but once again the bathrooms were a little bad. pee all over the place and smelled. but i can over look that for the level of service and food.
