My new favorite Mexican restaurant! The service was exactly how they express it will be on the website. The greeter at the door was super kind and my waitress is so sweet and attentive. The ambiance was fun and authentic feeling. I was dining solo while waiting for my daughter and her friends seeing a movie across the street. I requested internet and was able to sit and work while I ate and after. The food is SO good! I love their traditional guacamole... the avocado (and everything) is so fresh. I didn't want a huge portion for my meal, and they accommodated a chimichanga as ala carte even though I don't think it was offered on the menu that way. The staff so so polite and welcoming, and the restaurant is very clean with great style! I've been going here for basically my whole life and the quality has only gotten better and better. The menu is huge! DO NOT GO TO MEXICAN FIESTA! GO HERE! Fiesta is disgusting, greasy, overcrowded, and hardly even Mexican. El Cerro Grande however is the complete opposite! The bad reviews for this place are 100% because of prejudice. Sunday 5 pm visit: very satisfying. Service arrived instantly, drinks quickly followed, meal super fast and delivered hot. I had a combo dinner plate. It is often dangerous to order a Chile tells no but IMHO that is how you can tell great places. Plus these vary widely. It had a fair amount of heat in the pepper but was nicely balanced with a pale white cheese and green sauce. Different and good. The steak tops taco was different and the cheese enchilada prepared to order. Rice and beans decent. Too full for dessert, and prices reasonable. Wish I could have sampled some guacamole but too pricey for me by myself. Complimentary salsa and chips were not exceptional. Mexican music and sports on several screens. This is our happy place! My husband and I have been coming here for YEARS and we feel like we're a part of the family! We're regulars, so they know who we are when we walk in the door! First off- the staff is incredible! I mean, INCREDIBLE!Everyone who works here makes you feel like you've known them forever-- SO friendly and inviting! Estela, Claudia, Antoni... they're like our segunda familia :) Bonus- the food is fantastic! Their menu features all the amazing Mexican cuisine that you'd expect from a place like this. No pre-made anything. Everything they create is prepared in-house, with slow-cooked recipes that have been simmering all day. The addition of fresh and seasonal fruits, veggies, and lettuces is a plus. They don't skimp on portion size, and everything is made with love! We're kind of obsessed with their wide selection of margaritas and tequila shots :) I always choose the jumbo-sized frozen marg with sangria & salt rim-- absolutely delightful! They're ENORMOUS!! And worth every penny! We will never stop coming here-- because the service, food, and atmosphere is top notch! El Cerro Grande what is one of to authentic Mexican restaurants in Hartland proper off of M 59. The wait staff is very pleasant. Does not seem to comprehend too much English. I'm attacking that ground beef enchilada first..... it is delicious. The tortilla is fresh and warm the mouth feeling very good, it tastes great and it's got the Mexican cheese sprinkled on top which gives it a little bit of tang. Now, I'm to the chili relleno- which is cheese. Oh my gosh its fabulous. The Relleno has a bit of a brownish tinge in flavor to it like it's been placed under the broiler and the chili is fresh and very tasty. Looks like I should've eaten my crispy beef taco first as it's a bit soggy! That doesn't mean it has no flavor, the beef is just perfectly spiced within the taco shell. This place is great!!! AAA for service AAA for flavor AAA for temperature food and quality of food as well. Highly recommend get your Mexican food fix here.... And then go to the other place ultimately because it's equally as good!!! read more

This place is packed every weekend and has pretty high volume throughout the week so I thought it may be decent. I thought wrong. My wife's taco salad, to her dismay, was meatless despite ground beef clearly indicated on the receipt. My steak fajitas were inedible as the steak was tough like shoe leather. It's a shame because we need a decent Mexican restaurant in town. Small portions, not cheap, not good. I happened across reviews of this place while passing through the area on a Sunday evening. So glad we decided to stop! The atmosphere was clean, the decor was not overwhelming. Our server was so friendly and sweet, and patient with us as the kids had a hard deciding what to get for themselves. I have a pretty sensitive stomach and I did not feel sick at all after eating- and that's huge! I have no regrets! It's kinda pricy for a Mexican restaurant, but inflation and the area is a more rich area. It was very good and we all left happy! Saturday, March 16 approximately 5 pm). We originally went to the area because our favorite Mexican restaurant (Mexican Fiesta) had a power outage so we were on the hunt for another Mexican place and happened upon this one. We were seated immediately, and the chips and salsa arrived soon thereafter. Chips were good, typical of most restaurants and still warm. The salsa was excellent, perhaps the best part of the meal and probably why they sell it by the pint or quart. Lots of cilantro but not too spicy, and a bit thin. Usually Mexican restaurants bring a mild and a hot salsa around here, but we were absolutely fine with theirs, it was delicious (I love cilantro). We each had the combination plates, I had a tostada, chalupa and a beef taco. The usual beans and rice accompanied our meal and they were ok. Nothing spectacular, but good, if a bit bland. My wife had tacos and enjoyed them, but she's a pickier eater than I am, and didn't care for the beans, feeling that they weren't seasoned enough. Her favorite Mexican food is fish tacos and this restaurant didn't offer them, so she was disappointed from the start, and I often order fish or shrimp tacos, but am able to be happy with just about anything as a substitute. I generally like to order soup when we go anywhere, and would have here, but the only options are dinner sized portions of a Mexican chicken and a seafood soup, which sound good but unavailable as a smaller side portion. We will go back again for the food, and will try some other offerings, but not right away. As for service, our waiter was nice, but about four others also brought chips, drink refills, checked to see if our food was ok, and brought boxes for leftovers, including a refill on the salsa, which was appreciated. The check was delivered by someone other than our waiter almost as soon as we finished eating and before the takeout boxes, probably because it was starting to get busy (it wasn't when we arrived, but now it was about 6 pm). I paid right away and the payment was collected when the boxes were brought. I felt slightly rushed at this point but we're the type that tries to be cognizant of people waiting to eat and not tie up a table longer than needed anyway. We tried el Cerro when we found out it's new owners. Well, first impression is as follows Ordered one of their 27 combo dishes one burrito w meat enchilada w chicken and tamale. Sauces were good on all 3, the beef was a huge disappointment had no flavor no spice this was beef browned and placed in warmer with no seasoning. Chicken was boiled shredded flavorless chicken. Tamale was small and same pork was boiled blan flavorless pork. I felt they made the meat the easiest non flavor way possible. Wait staff were all Hispanic and spoke very Little English our waitress had to get help to explain tamale. Overall we tried it and wont't go back because meat was awful. Last comment chips seemed over deep fried were dark from being in dirty oil and salsa was blended canned tomatoes little seasoning with cilantro nothing fancy. read more

Happy accident! Stumbled upon this great Mexican restaurant when shopping in the area. We weren't even hungry but decided to try it. The décor is authentic Mexican and not an over-done commercial space. The chairs and booths are hand crafted and painted from Mexico. Nice touch. We had tacos and they did not disappoint. Food and service are lacking. It was our servers first day, which I get, but she had to continually go ask someone else the answers to our questions. I ordered Arroz con Pollo (chicken & rice). She came back and asked what kind of meat i wanted? Chicken. I received a plate of chicken & shrimp. When asked what kind of tequila they had no one knew. Probably because they didnt use any in our margaritas. This was my husbands first meal of the day so he should've surely been able to tell, but neither of us tasted anything. My husband is from SC and was thrilled when he saw an El Cerro Grande near us. Quite possibly the happiest I've ever seen him. The chips and salsa were good. The chips were not dark and overfried, as stated in a previous review. The queso was good as well. I had the enchiladas verdes and found it very good. My husband enjoyed his dish as well! The margaritas were clearly made from a mix, but still not overly sweet, which we liked. We will be back! The only downside were that I guess mini chimichangas used to be on the menu years ago, and are no longer on it, according to my husband. We will definitely be back! read more

The hostess asked me how many, told her two... she grabbed some menus and we followed.. only to find out that she was getting a big table ready. Made me feel real stupid. Communication would be nice. Then we got seated, the waitress took our order.. And that was it from her. No napkins, no silverware. Had to flag someone else. No refills, no how's the food...no picking up of dirty dishes.. service sucks. The food.. was bland. Almost as bland as Fiesta Mexican restaurant. I had to put lots of salt on nachos. It was an ugly dish.. not enough chips... so the chips were soggy. I never knew someone can screw up nachos.. but between this place and Fiesta, I've seen it twice.
