I liked telling my friends, "Let's go to Cancun!" It even looked great writing it in my planner. lol Cancun Mexican Grill was the spot to meet up with a couple friends/old telecom colleagues. Cancun Mexican Grill is located in the Gateway Commons strip mall next to a bank. The menu is a small spiral binder because there are so many menu options. I ordered the Birria Tacos because it was only beef tacos in the Taco section of the menu. The birria tacos are made with slow cooked beef. It was a little chewy and my corn tortillas were falling apart. I had to resort to eating them with a fork. I later ordered tacos for a friend to-go and I was shown the ala carte section at the back of the binder with ground beef tacos for purchase for one or three tacos. I believe those were better than mine with hard shells. The service was fine. They were very quick in bringing our food. We started out with chips and salsa. I would have liked individual saucers for the three of us so we weren't continuing to dip our chips in the same bowl of salsa. The restaurant is a nice size. They have plenty of seating options - booth, table & chairs and a bar area. Tip: Look for coupons in the local paper for $7 or $10 off. read more

I am a vegetarian so I do get vegetarian meals here which they always make amazing. Andre is my favorite server. He is wonderful. There's salsa and chips are also delicious. The atmosphere is nice. I like the booths. They do have tables. Also if you have more people in your group. My mother and my friend always like the fajita combos with the shrimp steak and chicken so if you are a meat eater, I would definitely recommend that that seems to be their favorite that they always order. And myself I love the vegetarian meals or the nachos I get them with fresh vegetables And I love their white cheese. Very nice here. I would definitely recommend it. My goto is the Camarones De Ajo which I am generally a fan of here. Everything else is meh, chips and salsa are hit or miss - I feel like they used to be better in years past with fresh chips. The taco salad I've had once was also really good and pretty giant. House margarita is quite sweet. It's just not the greatest Mexican option around so I cannot say I'm impressed or would return given other options within a 15 minute drive. read more

My least favorite part of the visit was my drink--I ordered a paloma and one of my companions ordered a margarita and they both were a bit too sweet for my preference. We recently had Cancun for takeout and have tried the fajitas and the Molcajete. Holy cow the molcajete was amazing via takeout, even without the stone bowl. The cheese was gooey. There was a ton of protein, a whole poblano, and jalapenos. I loved every bite. The take out experience was easy and straightforward. My nephew and I love this place so naturally he wanted to come for his birthday. CMG gets better each time we come. Needless to say, they survived COVID and are THRIVING! Good on you CMG! Every time I come here I try something new. This round was the Super Chimmy plate. OMG...Deliciouso and a LARGE plate of food. Cancun NEVER disappoints. The food is the same style of Mexican I grew up loving. Their staff is so happy that as they're seating guests they're singing whatever is playing over the speakers from the Mexican channel they've dialed up. It's always enjoyable and always a solid choice for the Mexican food we're craving. They make great margaritas and their chips and salsa are fresh and always satisfy. On the way back home from Kensington metro park ,We decide to try this place for lunch. The staff greeted and seated us right away and served complimentary chips and salsa quickly. We orders chimichanga and shrimp salad bowl. The portion size was generous and it tasted ok. It's just had ground beef inside of burrito and it wasn't very flavorful and needed more sauce. We should have ordered sliced steak instead of ground beef which could be better choice. Over all felt like lucking more flavors. I know I should't order burger at Mexican restaurant but my youngest doesn't like Mexican so I ordered one. It totally looked like frozen burgers that could be sold at gas station. Wish it was a little bit more better quality.at least they could make their own beef patty. I have 5 stars because the service was nice and the staff checked on us frequently and refill our drinks. read more

If you know me, Mexican is my fav! So I try Mexican restaurants whenever I can! This one was on our way home from Kensington Metro Park so we decided to hit it for lunch. When arriving we were seated right away and served chips and salsa immediately. The interior was clean and well decorated. We both ordered from the lunch menu, which was a little expensive in our opinion. Our lunch without any beverages was over $20 plus tip. I ordered the chimichanga with beef. The menu said chunks of beef but it ended up being ground beef. I was disappointed in that but it was actually really good. I think the toppings of guacamole, Pico, and sour cream are what made the meal! The pico had so many so flavors. I would order the chimichanga again but probably try chicken. Hubby wasn't as impressed with his Cancun burrito meal. He said it didn't have much flavor. So that was a bummer! We aren't in this area often, but I think we'd try it again. Delicious Mexican food and drinks. Came here on National Taco Day around 6pm. Saw the parking lot was full but still got seated right away. Seating actually extends pretty far back and the place is larger than it looks. Tucked away in the corner of a strip mall in South Lyon is where you'll find this. We got a pitcher of margaritas that got us about 5-6 drinks total. SO worth it. Ordered the fish tacos and the hubby got enchiladas supremas. The reasons I docked a star are 1) the chips they bring to you when you sit down are cold; rather than the fresh baked and salty ones and 2) the menu said corn tortillas for the tacos but he brought me flour....which is what I'm allergic to (that damn gluten). Cancún is a great Mexican restaurant in the South Lyon MI Area. We come here every year before thanksgiving and it never disappoints. The only thing I was upset about is that if you google this location, it allows you to make a google reservation. However , when I arrived at the restaurant the host and manager informed me that they actually do not take reservations and that's a mistake online. They really need to change this because it's very confusing to the customers! read more

Great food, friendly staff, and quick service. My only suggestion is to order a freshly squeezed margarita otherwise you get the bottled store stuff. I wanted to treat a friend to lunch after early meeting on a Sunday. We were one of the first people there... and I agreed it the host with a smile and cherry spirit. We are dressed up because of the meeting that we were attending and he sent us right to a bench that was torn that Terra dresses and I kindly asked him if I could have another bench that wasn't so rough on our outfits and he said this one is torn too wow but it was a little better so I sat down at that section, and after that it was on as far as his negative attitude was concerned he didn't have time to take our order. He was very impatient. The food was fine, but the drink that I asked for I complained about the same drink three times I told him that it was watered down and he did not say he was sorry even about me being unsatisfied with my drink he rolled his eyes several times he didn't communicate at all except with the eye rolling and bringing the drink. He didn't ask if we wanted a refill, he just grabbed a drink and refilled it. We tipped well my husband always tips, but I don't know what he tipped, but we don't treat people badly because of their bad service, but I won't go back there again definitely it was as if he didn't want me there and I was as kind as anybody could ever be in a good mood so I wouldn't go back to this place read more

I mean. I didn't hate it. It is one of those Mexican places you go to when the really good places are to far away. Unfortunately, in this case, there are readily available Mexican places that are better. I had a combo with an enchilada, a taco, rice, and beans. There is a spice or flavor that wasn't usual in other Mexican food I've had (grew up on a Mexican household.) I assume it's a regional take on American Mexican food. It was an interesting taste that grew on me very quickly. Other than that, the enchilada and taco were pretty bland. The enchilada sauce was definitely not great, it tasted pre-made. I live in Southwest Detroit where we're spoiled with dozens of top notch Mexican eateries in Mexicantown, places like Mi Pueblo, Pollo Los Gallos, and about 40-50 other Mexican eateries. CMG in South Lyon has some awesome margaritas. You can get a Pitcher (64oz), Monster (32oz), or Jumbo (18oz) size. Get that baby on the rocks and with salt on the rim. Absolutely delicious! We called in an order and it was hot and ready in 10 minutes. See the pictures. My husband tried #19. He couldn't even pick a favorite item as he said it was all delicious. He also ordered a side of Mexican rice and received a big tin of the stuff! I ordered the Special and it was fantastic! They provided three tins of fresh food. The chili relleno was perfectly spicy...I can't wait to get it again. They packaged a ground beef taco separately which kept the crunch and included freshly shredded veggies and cheese. After noshing on the fresh chips and salsa (mmm... cilantro), I didn't even get a chance to try anything but a bite of the tamale (which typically isn't "my thing") out of the third tin but I loved the tasty preview and look forward to tucking into it tomorrow. This place is a GREAT addition to South Lyon with full servings, great quality, an extensive menu and reasonable prices. They also offer margaritas (and other drinks) to go so we've got plenty of reasons to give it a whirl during and after pandemic restrictions! read more

I ate it, but it was basically American Mexican food. It was very bland tasting and smothered in cheese, which again was bland. The chimichangas were dry, and smothered in queso, we asked for sour cream on the side and they put it on anyways. The tamales were disgusting. I couldn't even eat it. If you want something that's fresh and authentic try Teresita's in new Hudson. I'd recommend getting the steak fajitas there. They are so good. I really wanted to like this place because it's close by, but when I'm getting Mexican food I want it done right. Stay away; you've been warned. read more

It is breaded & deep fried Mahi mahi then it's topped with a mayo based coleslaw. I think if the fish is fried, it should have acid, like a fruit salsa, to cut thru the fat. They also put the fish taco on a flour shell. Next time I will request corn. The Chile Relleno was perfect. As was the pork chimichanga. I ordered a large extra salsa but only got 3 single servings with our large bag of chips. The food here is good enough that despite these minor issues, I'd definitely come back here. read more
