Being from El Paso, Texas, I appreciate good Mexican and Tex-Mex food. I was excited to try this place, but it did not live up to the name. I ordered the birria tacos. The meat was decent, but the consommé had a strange flavor that I did not enjoy. The refried beans were over seasoned, and they served plain white rice. That is not what I expect from a Tex-Mex restaurant. The salsa was too sweet for my taste. The tortilla chips and taco shells were fried too long, leaving them with a burnt, smoky flavor. You'd think third time would be a charm, but you'd be wrong. In the two years we've lived in Fenton, this building has been three different restaurants (though all owned essentially by the same company) and they simply cannot get it right. Tonight was our second time eating here- the first time both the service and food were fairly good (still a little shaky as my husband's soup was missing all of the toppings). But tonight, holy moly it was a s**t show. They sat my son and I at a tiny two top; too small to eat at honestly- after they dropped the chips and salsa and our disco fries appetizer there was zero room to spare. I asked the waitress for taco recommendations, and mentioned that I don't like pork or shrimp, she proceeded to point out a taco selection that's good but quickly rescinded saying "it's kind of pork" (it literally said shredded beef in the description), then went on to recommend the shrimp tacos. Huh? I went ahead and ordered the house special puffy tacos after realizing she clearly did not know the menu, or perhaps how to read. My son ordered the chicken enchiladas. When our main dishes arrived, we still had on our tiny table the chips & salsa, appetizers, and side plates. It was like a game of Tetris getting our entrées to fit. It really went down hill from there- both our rice and beans were ice cold, my ground beef tacos were cold to lukewarm at best, same temperature for the enchiladas. On top of that the puffy tacos just weren't good. The fried masa shell had absorbed all of the grease from the ground beef and were falling apart, there wasn't nearly enough crema making it very lack luster and blah. By the time the illiterate server came to check on us, it hardly seemed worth it to tell her about any of the issues. Instead I just asked for the check. When she dropped the check we still had on our minuscule table the chips & salsa, appetizer, side plates, and both entrees. By the time she returned the check for me to sign I literally could not- I had to put our stacks of unbussed plates onto the clean, neighboring table just to be able to write. How she could be completely oblivious to the condition of our table is beyond me- I watched her leave our full, dirty table and go sit by her buddy at the host stand. This place is not long for this world. Maybe focus less on being trendy and more on consistency and quality. A wasted third attempt, it's just Honcho with more grease and new wall fixtures. read more

This is the third restaurant that I've eaten at in the firehouse building, but it is by far my favorite. They have great complimentary chips and salsa. There's a great variety of margaritas including frozen ones. The food was all SO good and big portion sizes, so come hungry! We got the elote pizza, which is unique and so delicious. This place is delicious! Huge portions and definitely recommend for a Tex Mex outing. It's located in the old Fenton firehouse, which as had a few restaurants over the last couple years. It's a fun space that has a dive bar in the basement and a rooftop bar above. For drink, they have several frozen margaritas which are really unique. For food, I got the Nashville Hot chicken tacos and my table split an elote pizza. Both super flavorful and I left feeling super full with some leftovers. There is no shortage of places to get Mexican or Tex-Mex food in Genesee County. There is only one El Roy's. For me El Roy's stands above all others. For the 1st time in a while I felt the portion sizes were an excellent value for the price paid. The menu has several interesting and unique dishes on it plus some standard dishes everyone knows and likes. Our food was hot and really delicious. Lastly the atmosphere is lively and fun! The whole experience just worked for me. One bad thing I could say is that it took a minute from the time we were sat down untill our server showed up. Once the server did show she apologized for the slow start. From then on she provided an exceptional dining experience. Go check this place out, you'll be glad you did! read more

Chris gave us excellent service and the food was great! Birria was delicious! Mexican bumpy cake is really rich but great for sharing.

My daughter and I ate here on a Friday night and it was an awesome experience. I had shrimp tacos that were really good. The shrimp was so crispy with a good flavor and the jalapeño crema on them was yummy! The chips didn't look very promising but were actually very good. They were really fresh, crispy and nicely salted. Salsa was very good. We both had mango margaritas which were tasty but could've been stronger. She ordered the Smokey chicken taquitos that came with queso dip. Those were also really good. Service was excellent. I really felt the effort being made to make everything better than average. Just about everything during my visit to El Roy's was great. Atmosphere was really cool, service was on point and the food was fantastic. Between my girlfriend and I we split the elote pizza and it seriously slapped. The complimentary chips and salsa were even above par to what I've had at many other Mexican restaurants. If I lived closer to here then it would be a problem for my diet. Just left with a nasty taste in our mouth about El Roy's/ LeRoy's. It's unfortunate because dinner was very good. We were not impressed with the drinks. Margaritas tasted like limeade minus the tequila. Our server Elizabeth was amazing. Upbeat personality and checking on us constantly. We were a table of 4 that were in for dinner and drinks. We were impressed that the chef came out and checked on our table to ensure the dinner met our expectations. We've not had that service ever in Fenton. After dinner, we decided to head downstairs to the outdoor patio for a few more drinks to end the evening. This is were the night turned ugly. It was almost as if we went to a totally different location. We sat for a very long time before having to ask someone who peaked their head out of a door if someone could take our order. We were told none of the drinks we had upstairs were available downstairs. We changed what we were previously drinking to continue the evening. Every round of drinks required us asking for someone passing by to assist us. Our server finally returned and said she was distracted for a bit. We had asked for additional napkins which she never returned with. After having to wait for quite a while, we still had to ask another waitress to bring our check. Keep in mind that the patio only has 5 or 6 tables that had 10% guests at best. It's difficult to understand why this premium location in Fenton has change names several times over the last few years but with this level of service we experienced I can understand why.
