It seems like this year I have gone to many restaurants in strip malls - ain't nothing wrong with that! The place is nice. Upscale feel regardless of the strip mall location. There was a lady singing, which is the main reason this wasn't 5 stars. We started with causa de altun - mashed potatoes with tuna, might not sound appetizing but I promise it's divine. I had the Lomo Saltado, which I have had at many Peruvian places. This was up there with the best. They didn't have the fries in the sauce, so they weren't soggy, but a few of them did indeed get soggy, so it was a perfect mix! The meat was tender, the rice was....well rice, can't really rate that too much lol. It was a great, large dish. The fiance had tallarines verde, a pasta, in some sort of green sauce with a churassco on top. WOW, pasta and staeak? DELICIOUS! She isn't a huge meat eater, so she slid over some of the steak to me. That's one of the reasons we are getting married lol. The waitress heard my fiance say the dessert was delicious, but we were stuffed and didn't order dessert. However, the waitress brought us 4 little cookies with what seemed like dulce de leche in between them, complimentary. WHAT A NICE TOUCH! We had a bottle of wine, appetizer and 2 entrees for about $85, with tip. Not bad, considering the quality of the food was awesome. This place used to be excellent. Best ceviche in town, great service and great ambiance. There must've been a change in management or owners. The ceviche mixto I ordered was awful, bitter and full of cheap calamari. The seafood soup was also loaded with calamari and frozen mussels, not much else for a $21.00 soup. You start to cut corners on food quality and cheap labor and this is what you get. Too bad, it used to be a very good local place. read more

This place is a hidden gem and if you're reading this to make up your mind on where to eat today stop and just head out I guarantee you, you won't REGRET IT!!! The ambiance is good for families but it has a romantic feel to it, they even have live music on Fridays and Sunday's . Now let's get to the food (mouth waters as i think about it). I don't think I've ever been so pleased with a menu before. From the "baked scallops with shrimp and Parmesan cheese" to the "risotto con lomo salvaje" and the "suspiró a la limeña (best dessert)". I've eaten here on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed it. So when someone in the family recently asked if I was open to going, I said YES, right away. However, I was a bit conflicted as I recently started the #Keto diet and my favorite dish here - the Lomo Saltado - comes with fries and rice - two things I simply cannot have. After mulling over the menu, I decided to order the Lomo anyway, I simply asked our server if I could forego the rice and fries and have a side salad instead. They were very open to the substitution request and I must say, I was more than pleasantly surprised they did so. The food was fantastic as always. read more

The place looks great, the servers were excellent. The risotto was amazing as was the leche de tigre. Problem came with the chaufa de mariscos. My wife and mother in law both asked for it. It had the taste of burnt rice. When we told the waitress she said the the chef said it was supposed to be like that. Thats unacceptable. Wiil never come back. From the time I went into the restaurant it took me by surprise that it smelled like a total ashtray. Not ideal when you're getting ready to eat. The ceviche was good not great. The grilled octopus didn't taste as it were grilled and was very lightly flavored, again not great. The shrimp causa was too simple the mash potato was pale and it had no avocado or anything else that's typically included other than the shrimp, just a flower. The service was good but the prices for the quality and flavor of the food are definitely not at par. I will not be going back. read more

This Peruvian spot is very good. Especially if you want to go on a date this is a nice cozy spot to go to. The ambience is very nice and the waiters are very polite and helpful. The food is DELICIOUS and presentable. I ordered the pescado nasca and my boyfriend got the churrasco both were super flavorful. My ceviche was awful what a bitter taste to the point I could barely finish it. Either that used pre squeezed lemon juice or they blended the seeds it was really lawful. You should be ashamed of serving food of this quality. Please save you the experience an order anything but ceviche. read more

Honestly I hate to write this review but only because of this past Mother's Day is a must and the restaurant refuses to correct this or apologize. I follow them on Instagram. For Mother's Day they put a post to order food either via pick-up or delivery. I tried calling but the phone kept having a busy signal. Since it wasn't too far, I asked my husband if we can drive over then to order food. We were about to order over $200 worth of food. Once I got there, this blonde lady told me they are not doing any take-out orders, pick-up or delivery, and only reservations and they were completely booked for Sunday. I'm sorry but it was ridiculous to hear this and I told her how can you say that when the restaurant posted the opposite and I showed her the post. She said she has no idea who posted it and it was a mistake. Mistake or not, they were to honor what they advertise. Yet she tells me she doesn't understand why I was so upset about this. Really? I wasted my time driving over here to order food and instead I get refused service. I commented on their post and instead of reaching out to me with an apology, they deleted my comment. This is not how a restaurant treats its customer and a repeat customer no less. read more

This used to be my favorite place for lomo saltado but it has gone down tremendously. It's really hard to do bad fries but they tasted like the frozen ones you bake. The waitress was extremely rude, would just drop the plates in the table and walked away. She actually told us she couldn't take a picture of us because she was too busy. Completely absurd, she had 2 other tables, if you can't handle the stress of waiting on tables you should find another job. On top of that 17% gratuity is included which she did not deserve at all. The only reason why this has a star is probably because of the host. She helped the server and was very nice and attentive. read more

Best Peruvian restaurant in the area! Whenever my family is in the mood for Peruvian we don't have to think twice about it, we go straight to El Chaman. We've been going for years and it has never disappointed us. The ceviche is so fresh, tastes delicious. I love all their fish plates and my son always goes for los tallarines verdes with churrasco. Oh and let's not forget about the drinks. My personal favorite is the pisco sour but their wines are really good too. The portions are big! Usually enough that I can take some left overs home. Restaurant inside is always a nice vibe. It's elegant but not stand off-ish and the service is great. read more

This restaurant is a hidden treasure in West Kendall. The quality of the food, the excellent service, the live music and the moderate prices make this restaurant a perfect choice for a night out without the drive to Coral Gables, Brickell or Miami Beach. I don't understand why it isn't packed on a Friday or Saturday night. While I'm always pleased with immediate availability of a great table, it pains me to see empty tables in such a good restaurant. Our live music was a gentleman named Eduardo Calderon. His voice had range that made me wonder if he was playing Julio Iglesias or Luis Miguel. Great voice! Where should I begin, from the moment we walked in I could smell the snobby attitude from JACKIE. I won't lie the place looks very nice and very roomy. There's a cigar shop next door and the scent seeps through the walls into the restaurant. The prices are exaggerated and they attempt to make typical Peruvian food sound sophisticated, it's Not! 18.00 for a Lomo Saltado 20.00 for a Tallarin Verde Churrasco JACKIE kept trying to push appetizers,beer,wine,soup in a very annoying way. When our food was ready JACKIE burned her hand on our plate but never once warned us that our plate was hot. It would be unfair to the cook to say the food was bad, because it wasn't. It was actually very delicious and well presented. However, JACKIE the poor excuse for a waitress needs to find another profession, because she has no personality. As if her horrible service wasn't enough she brings out the bill for a total of $41.04, and has the audacity to include a 17% gratuity bringing the total to $47.50 which apparently is included in ALL parties. I honestly was planning on leaving her $2.00 that's how bad her service was. As good as the food was I will not return based on JACKIE'S horrible service. read more

Five starts for the food/service, atmosphere not worth cost of food. This restaurant is located next to a cigar shop, from the moment you walk in, there is an odd smell --- somewhere between cigar and fresh scent of cleaning product... neither overwhelming but yet still present. I was starving and this place was first to come up on yelp, so decided to stay. Five minutes into our meal, the fire alarm started going off. The staff continued to work and didn't seem alarmed nor concerned , which leads me to believe that this happens often. The alarm continued to go off for what seemed like an eternity to someone who suffers from migraines and has been on two hours of sleep due to having a newborn. I asked the waiter how long I could expect for alarm to last, she said owner was checking on it as it was the entire shopping center, not just the restaurant --- no follow up, it just went away on own after 10 or so very long minutes. As for food: We ordered calamari, Lomo, and chupe de camarones ALL delicious. I won't be returning as though food was vey good, if I am paying average $20 a plate, I would like a more peaceful non masked smell environment. read more

This restaurant is located in a strip mall and yet they feel the need to charge you Brickell, corner-restaurant prices. Yeah, no I don't think so. We walk in at 3:00pm on a Saturday and there are only 2 other tables- this should have been an indicator. There's this glorious crystal chandelier in the center of the restaurant and the decor takes you out of this area and creates the illusion you're in Coral Gables. Again, no. After 10 minutes of sitting we receive our menu and those prices jump out at me. Look, I'm not cheap but I won't be paying for $32 for a Jaela para dos in this area. No sir. Moving on, not impressed with their pretentious nature and the service we deserve to only give them $17 on a dish called Arroz Chaufa con Mariscos. It wasn't a foodgasm or anywhere near that. It was more of a 'I'm just going to suck it up and wait till it's over' kind of experience. You know how painful that can be. Oh, they do give free bread and they count them where each person gets one. Talk about portion control but I'm all for it. My mother asked for a green spicy sauce in the middle of our meal. Needless to say we never saw that green spicy sauce. She waited till her food got cold and we decided to pay and get out of this dump. Oh adding to this whole wonderful lunch- musicians were setting up to play for an empty restaurant. Oh my. Well I definitely won't be coming back- even if they're giving our free food. read more

Friday is a date night and we were looking for a place to check out around our house. El Chaman had wonderful reviews on yelp and its conviniently located a couple of blocks away from our home, so we decided to go there for dinner. For starters, we ordered a 'causa de atun'. Wow! So much deliciousness, all packed into a little ball of mashed potatoes and tuna. My fiance and I shared the causa and my cousin and her boyfriend (who had come along with us) shared a ceviche mixto. For entree, I ordered 'tallarines verde con churrasco', which essentially means pesto pasta and steak. so much flavor and such a delicious sauce!! Definitely my favorite dish of the night. My fiance and my cousin ordered a 'lomo saltado', even though it was very well made my pasta was far more delicious. Portions are huge! By the time we were done with our meal we were completely stuffed. Their wine selection is pretty neat. we ordered a delicious bottle of cabernet and it was not that expensive (24 dollars a bottle). After we were done with our meal the waitress asked us if we wanted any dessert, we were completely stuffed from our meal and had to decline. However, we were pleasantly surprised by small treats courtesy of the house. Overall an amazing experience. TIP : the only bad part of our visit, was the older lady singing boleros. I'm pretty much in love with El Chaman! I eat a lot of Peruvian food and I can honestly say, they're pretty consistent. The ceviche is always fresh and flavorful. The only other ceviche I've tried in Miami that's better than El Chaman is at Cvi.che 105 in downtown. However, that's a long drive for me. In my general area, El Chaman is my favorite place! I recently tried something for the first time there that was quite memorable. The "chupe de camarones" is BOMB! This and an order of ceviche is a great, fulfilling meal. Definitely try it, people. The service is a hit-or-miss. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's mediocre. The only thing I don't like about this place is the live music. Geez, it is LOUD! I usually don't mind live music but here it is notably louder than other places. They need to fix the acoustics in the room or just skip it all together. It's annoying when you're trying to have a peaceful, quiet meal. I will definitely keep being a regular here though, that's for sure! PS. Thursdays they have half off ceviche! GO. NOW. read more

A friend of mine had been telling me to come to this place. I finally decided to give it a try and let me tell you this place really impressed me. Lets start by saying that the service was wonderful. The staff is very pleasant and attentive. Within no time we were seated and the food arrived in a timely manner. Now lets get in to the food. Simply delicious and great presentation. Definitely recommend the risotto, super creamy and tasty. The ceviche was full of seafood unlike other places which is full onions and other things.
