    Taco meat not fully cooked
    Stephanie K.

Just stopped for a taco and my taco meat was not fully cooked. I understand it was 30 min before closing but a little disappointed. I typically love this place. Sat at the bar and ordered immediately. The bartender was definitely ready to go home. Don't blame him.

The food was pure TexMex! It was very good. Staff here were very friendly and helpful. Genuinely nice people. A very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere just add to a great dining experience. We enjoyed it very much!

My daughter and I ate lunch at this El Chaparral in Boerne, TX and the lunch was great, the restaurant is very nice and the decor was superb. Our waiter, Brian was attentive, offered suggestions for dessert, was friendly and gave us a brief history of this El Chaparral in Boerne, TX I ordered the puffy taco plate with carne Guisada and the tacos were great especially the puffy corn tortillas. My daughter ordered the chicken nachos and the little corn tortilla cup with guacamole was so cute! My daughter ordered churo bites with caramel sauce for dessert RECOMMEDATION: I would definitely return to El Chaparral in Boerne, TX for another lunch outing or dinner.

Chicken enchiladas with cilantro cream sauce (beans missing because I'm allergic)

We've been to the location in Helotes many times over the years...have been to the Boerne location a few times. They are both great for larger parties and both have nice outside seating...very spacious dining inside and out. Both locations have a nice bar area, as well. Today I had what I most often have...chicken enchiladas with cilantro cream sauce. The plate also comes with beans and rice, but I'm allergic to beans so leave them off. Frozen margaritas are so yummy! And their salsa is really delicious. I pour it all over my rice and enchiladas! Service was a little slow...and we were there in the middle of the afternoon, so it wasn't busy. Had to ask several times for water and a couple other things. But she had a warm smile and we weren't in a hurry, so not a deal breaker. *Bonus - they offer a military discount!

Seated immediately, provided chips and salsa but no water or drinks. Waited for 5 mins and then ordered waters (should have brought them out with the chips automatically). We orders mixed giant fajita (chicken, steak, and shrimp) and the la parrillada for the three of us and the Chispas margaritas. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and clean. While waiting for food The lights were dimmed to make the ambiance more romantic. Food was pretty fantastic.

GF and I don't visit Boerne too often. Not exactly sure why but we just go elsewhere. Charming downtown with fun (also expensive) shopping and people watching. While the available restaurants are good it's lacking a good Tex-Mex option. I also do have to point out that too many restaurants are closing in Boerne. I follow My San Antonio and local closings are staggering. Now, some good news on a recent trip. We were looking at trucks at the local "motor mile" and stumbled onto El Chaparral. Restaurants aren't always on Main Street folks. We found El Chaparral by taking backroads to visit car dealerships. Praise for their tenure in the town we sat down for lunch on the first visit. Chips and salsa starts your experience. Then, bean soup! The most flavorful borracho/charro beans in all of Texas. Did Lupe Tortilla steal this? The server explained we had the option to sub them on an entree instead of refried or similar less seasoned "charro beans". WHY???? Those beans are perfect! As I said two visits. First entree was my requisite shrimp enchiladas. Can't remember when I've had the dish paired with a sour cream sauce. Shrimp were well seasoned with grilled onion. Sauce was too heavy on the sour cream and zero seasoning. Next visit I went with a taco salad. This is my second go to and again found issues with the dish. Shredded chicken was tasty; artful presentation with the toppings. But, tortilla bowl is not hot. Cold in fact. No crispy love there which makes the dish an indulgence for me. I'll be back for the beans.

Finally had time to stop by the new location in Boerne. The restaurant is very spacious with traditional Mexican decor and plenty of parking. Was greeted immediately with no wait time. The complimentary chips and salsa was flavorful and spicy. The shrimp poblano was absolutely wonderful hitting savory, spicy, and fresh flavors. Paired with charro beans, avacado, lettuce, tomato, and the coastal rice was interesting yet tasty. The shoestring fries with the steak was unexpected but strongly complimented the dish. The steak was cooked perfectly and so moist. Definitely, coming back to try more of their La Casa dishes.

Good margaritas, friendly service and delicious Mexican dinners. Seating options include al fresco on the patio, a lively bar area or indoor tables. Puffy tacos, a San Antonio tradition, are done nicely here - perfectly puffy taco shells, loaded with hearty picadillo filling, arrived hot and upright on a stainless steel taco stand that kept everything from spilling out. I'm usually a fan of breaded and fried cheese chile rellenos, but the grilled Cristina's version stuffed with jalapeño chicken filling was a nice change-up. This location is a little easier to get into on a Friday night than the original location in Helotes.

Unfortunately, it was on the opposite side of the road so we had to turn around. The place was not crowded when we went in but had a few tables occupied. We ordered our food and sat down. We got presented with chips and salsa - very surprisingly delicious salsa! The food followed a few minutes later and we must have been hungry because the food disappeared pretty quickly. I had the beef street tacos and my wife ordered the puffy tacos. Mine were delicious by itself or with the sauce that were in squeeze containers. No matter, my beef tacos were good. They were full of meat with onions and cilantro. The cilantro was optional but I wanted it. My wife almost licked the plate. We probably need to come back and try the others on their menu. As for the ambiance, it's bright with a tall ceiling. It's located on a very busy corner - 46 and Main St by Cypress creek. Parking is in the back and you need to know Boerne well to find it. Overall, this place has good delicious food. We promised our relatives who are visiting us soon that we will take them here.

Parking is behind the restaurant and there isn't a lot of it. They also have patio seating in the back. We got there right when they opened and it was getting busy right away. You can enter from the front and back. Only small negative is that they have tile floors and metal chairs, so it gets very loud and hard to hear the busier it gets.

The menu is on par for Boerne, overpriced serving mediocre food. A pint of refried beans $7.50, served very runny, these are the bag of pre- cooked beans from a supplier, they evidently used an improper amount of water for reheating. The tortillas are $10.20 per dozen, which is hard to justify considering most places charge less than half that price for fresh tortillas. We also ordered their Mexican plate $15.99, the taco was served sitting in gravy-soggy shell, cheese enchiladas were okay at best, and again the beans were runny-watery. The chips obviously come from a bag, and many were broken into small pieces. The salsa was actually good, but served in squeeze bottles instead of bowls. This visit confirmed for us that it's worth passing up, despite the convenient location, I'd rather drive an additional 30-minutes farther to San Antonio where you actually get quality food made from scratch in-house at less than half the price with welcoming staff. Unfortunately, Boerne seriously lacks quality restaurant options, and this is just another example.

Having been raised with a healthy dose of it throughout my life, it is my favorite comfort food. They also have an excellent selection of seafood dishes, which makes it a great choice for Fridays, especially during Lent. We were seated promptly and our waitress brought us our drinks and chips almost immediately. She was really friendly. The chips and salsa were tasty - the salsa was fresh and not too hot. The salsa is made in-house, so sometimes it's hotter than others. Today it was on the mild side. They had a special Valentine's Day menu. Since this was lunch, we chose from the regular menu. I had the crispy beef taco plate and my husband had enchiladas. No complaints there! The taco shells were crispy and the ground beef was steamy hot and properly seasoned. The rice and beans were quite good, the rice being above average. Their guacamole has no surprises, like funky ingredients or a bunch of onions in it. I like my guacamole simply seasoned, if at all. Just basic mashed avocado, please, thank you very much. That's exactly what I got. I decided to splurge and have a cocktail, so I ordered a black Russian. It took a little while. The waitress apologized and said the bartender didn't know what that was and had to look it up. Because it was the afternoon and we weren't in a rush, I didn't mind. I was a little surprised he didn't know what a black Russian is, but peeps have to learn sometime. The more experienced bartenders usually get the evening shift, I would imagine. In any event, it was made to perfection. My husband liked his meal. He works in inner city SA, and prefers the hole in the wall places. He does like El Rio, though; he's the one who introduced me to it years ago. In short, if you are looking for standard Tex Mex food in a comfortable environment then this is certainly good choice. It's never been noisy or overcrowded when we've been here for lunch.
