Two friends and I met at 11:30 at Boerne restaurant for lunch. Two of us ordered lite side two step. Other friend ordered side dishes--guacamole, jalapeños, rice, refried beans and chips. The second batch of chips we were brought were so greasy they stuck together. Not fit to eat. Waiter (think his name was Sergio) never came to check on us, refill water, or show concern Worse part were the puffy chicken tacos. The chicken had bones in it!!! Both my friend and I got bones in our chicken. Thankfully we didn't swallow or break a tooth Huge disappointment for today. I've eaten there before with no issue, but now don't care if I return Later I remembered I had reward but forgot to mention when server came by table. Not only the food is bad, the service is awful. we want this past Sunday for a birthday party that was reserved beforehand and the host had to pay in advance. when we arrived they said there was not a reservation and the whole time everyone was angry with all the guests. one of the guests, had an accident and injured the leg with one of the chairs, I mentioned it to the managers and no one did anything, we have photos of that too. the only 2 servers that helped were Preston and Kaitlin. The manager in the photo, was super rude with everyone! Now they block me from instagram because they know this was wrong and instead of doing something right, they want to pretend this didn't happen. This is a newly opened location in Boerne. The paved parking lot is humongous and the unpaved even larger. Every spot was taken. The facility is absolutely gorgeous and top notch in every way. We went on its fourth day of being open, so it was absolutely freaking crazy. We waited an hour and 15 minutes to sit. However, it went by quickly as we enjoyed some delicious El Jefe margaritas. The menu has an array of authentic Mexican, along with fake Tex-Mex offerings. Wifey had a shrimp chile relleno and I had the parrillada plate (grilled meats). Both were served quickly, and people hot. The food was delicious and flavorful. Prices are as expected for Boerne. Despite the busy atmosphere, our service was fast and our server was very friendly. To begin, Rene (our server) was INCREDIBLE. She is amazing and a hard worker. It was a pleasure to have her taking care of us. The Chips and Salsa were delicious, and our orders were perfect, delicious, and hot. The decor is very rustic with nice sturdy tables and chairs. Wow! It seems all of Boerne was waiting a looong time for this restaurant to open and today, it looked like all of Boerne was there! Great crowds and a very warm reception from the hostess. Short wait for a table and we were able to check out their great menu. My wife enjoyed her grilled fish street tacos and I tried Erin's Parrillada, which was laden with beef, chicken and Shrimp, accompanied by rice and a small guacamole salad. It was delicious! UberEats Order Review: my family is stuck at home sick and we had been eager to try El Chapparal. Sadly it left a lot to be desired. What you see in the picture was ~$100. They don't even include salsa, it's a $5 add-on. The "giant" mixed fajita ($67.99) is what you see in the picture, to be honest the amount of meat we got was more reminiscent of a single fajitas order you'd expect to pay $40 for at any other restaurant. The beans were floating in oil, it was pretty off-putting. There was ZERO fajita toppings, no sour cream, no cheese, no guac, no pico, nada. Their queso ($5) reminds us of a watered down nacho cheese you might find at your local movie theater. The only thing stopping me from giving this a single star was the quality of the meat. The chicken and steak were cooked well, not dry at all, but both lacking in flavor. The grilled veggies were sliced very thin which was disappointing since they were just sloppily floating around the container. Overall very disappointed. We were eager to visit this beautiful boerne location but now we're not sure it's worth it. read more

Texas has a plethora of Mexican eateries and everyone has a favorite. El Chappy's is ours. Even though they opened one closer to us (in Boerne) we still prefer to drive down to Helotes and eat there. We eat there often and have gotten to know many of the staff. Although prices increased when the Boerne place opened, they still are pretty reasonable. So glad they brought back the "Lunch Specials" as they are everyone's (us included) favorites. Good chips and salsa, friendly and attentive wait staff and a great atmosphere. In fact the reason we prefer the Helotes place instead of the Boerne one is that although the Boerne store is "swankier" we prefer the ambiance nd authentic atmosphere and are willing to drive out of the way for it. Right when you want in the door you are warmly greeted and sat pretty quickly. The service is always great even when they are busy. The food and drinks are amazing. They truly have something for everyone. They have a fun playground outside with a really relaxing patio with lights. I do wish the game room was up and working more often but I'm sure it's hard to up keep those machines with how many people frequent there. read more

Stopped in yesterday - second visit. Spanish rice was overcooked, hard and crunchy. Cheese hard on beef enchiladas (no sauce). Shrimp Chili Releno ok but not much flavor. Appetizer menu mostly list of diff nachos. ordered 6 bacon wrapped shrimp as appetizer (off menu request) - arrived with 2 shrimp- small - one for me one for my husband ridiculous. They did credit the shrimp and didnt offer to make more to fill the order. Food not real flavorful over cooked. Did leave the waitress a nice tip as not her fault food is subpar. This was our 2nd visit to El Chaparral and as good as it was on opening, it was even better on our most recent visit. We are early as to beat the Sat. Dinner rush, and we were seated immediately. They serve individual beans upon seating and we slurped those down. The chips and salsa has to be replenished since they were devoured. I ordered the Two-Step and fell into a new obsession with their spinach enchiladas and puffy tacos. THE SANGRIA MARGARITA was fantastic! I can't wait for our next visit. read more

We sat at the bar and it took a little while to get a food menu and get waited on but once we did the food came out in a timely manner. Only thing we found annoying is the hostess that was behind us yelling people's names who were waiting on a table. Hopefully they will have a better way to let people know their table is ready. Very nice TexMex restaurant off Boerne Stage Road in the hill country. Family owned with locations in Boerne and Helotes. They renovated an old house giving the place such a charm. Fajita beef and cheese enchiladas were very good. It is such a popular place but still our group of 10 waited only 15 minutes (at 5:30pm). The waitstaff were friendly. For those times when driving into Sam Antonio may be "too far" El Chapparral is good ole traditional TexMex. It felt like a warm hug from my childhood. This is the taste of TexMex I remember growing up when my family would drive down to San Antonio. They made the cheese enchilada without the chile con carne and put a bit of queso on it like I used to order as a kid. Asked about the tamarind margarita, something i definitely didnt have as a kid - and the waitress brought over some of the tamarind juice so i could try it. Rating is s 3.5 We got there at 6:15pm. When we entered the building, there was lots of congestion in the foyer. I gave my name and number. I immediately noticed that there were 3 hostess's. All three were fumbling around. Most of the waiting room seats were outside. My husband and I found two seats at the bar and ordered which cost us $25+ I must admit bartenders were on point and quick. We went outside to wait. Texas heat... here we go! We waited a full 30 minutes. I went in and asked if I could verify my number to which one of the three girls standing there said, "oh yeah, we called your name but, you didn't answer." ‍ Let me say there was very little seating inside and they never thought, to call outside! The waitress took us back outside, gave us two menus and walked away. About 10 minutes later, a young woman asked, "have y'all been helped?" .... "No .... " NO ONE told her... some hostess.. We ordered.. an hour later we got our order. I got the puffy taco carne guisada .. the beans are why this is 3.5! They are authentic. Fat, full of flavor and yum! The carne guisada was salty and I couldn't really taste the gravy. The beef cubes were awkward I'm the they were not bite size for a taco but one chunk was I'd say 1" x 2" big and was very hard to get a bite off the taco. Some of it had strings of ligament on the edge. How can you bite that? You can't use a fork and knife with a handheld taco. Rice was good but a little dry. The puffy corn taco shell was being drained from a taco rack on the plate. Asking my husband: My husband got the Ranchero Steak but had ordered Steak Arrachera. He liked it enough to go back. He loved his pina colada then his sweet tea. They do not have floating servers checking on drinks, salsa, chips and leave this to the waiter/waitress. We sat our hour waiting about 30 minutes without attention because the waitress was strapped with other tables. Parking lot is small. There's no fans on the front porch or any type of cooling. Our family went yesterday for Christmas Eve. The restaurant is beautifully decorated inside and out. The waitress Debra was friendly and provided great service. She told us that the restaurant was a house previously. Our round table was located next to the chimney of what would have been the living room. They have a playscape and outdoor seating. The food was served promptly and hot. We ordered the Pescado Acapulco, Carne Asada plate, Mexican Plate, Chicken Fajitas, Chicken enchiladas with Tomatillo sauce and kid's slider burger. Everything was delicious, and we enjoyed our meal. For dessert we had flan, sopapillas and churros. We liked the flan and sopapillas the best. We will be back again soon! read more

Honestly had such a bad experience. Still giving 3 stars because I loved the old Boerne location and love the one in Helotes. The owner or manager offered to comp our appetizer (I still paid), but they're having major growing/opening pains. Waitress couldn't remember anything and had too many tables. We sat there for 50 minutes and never had a chance to order entrees. Appetizer sampler came out cold and unappetizing. We never received silverware or enough plates for the table. Waitress blamed this on the hostess. Also waited over an hour and 15 just to be sat...which would have been fine if the experience was good. I expected to wait but the service and food I did receive was not good. Will try again after they've been open a while. read more

I have been a customer of El Chaparral since the early 1970s when it was in a strip center off of Hwy 16 & Scenic Loop Road. The food was great and the owner was even better. Like many who live in Boerne, I was more than excited to dine at the new location that has parking and was built specifically for El Chaparral. I had an out-of-town friend who also wanted to dine there and we arrived before 11:30 on a Wednesday and the place was filling up fast with mainly locals. We were seated immediately and our server quickly took our drink order and came back with our iced teas to take our lunch order. My friend went simple and ordered the cheese enchilada plate and I took the recommendation of the Carne Asada Street Tacos. We enjoyed the complimentary chips & fresh salsa and that little bowl of bean soup that El Chapparal is so famous for. Our dishes came out within just a few minutes and looked great BUT there may be some wrinkles to iron out in the kitchen. My friend showed me the inside of his enchiladas where the shredded cheese had not melted but he did finish them. My street tacos had an unpleasant surprise in them as the thin strips of beef were not only on the tough side but two of the four tacos had strips of hard fat/gristle and I thought long and hard before mentioning that to our waitress as that is not in my character (just eat and don't complain). But when you are paying $17 for 4 small tacos plus tax and tip, you expect them to be exceptional. Now, I am giving them grace in that I pointed out the chunks of tough fat stacked on my plate to our waitress and she apologized. Later, while she was next to our table, a manager came up and I thought that I would get a manager's apology as that is the custom but he had something else on his mind. The place was still not packed and I will be going back but there is a distaste in my mouth. I may try this place in a month or so when the newness wears off and hopefully the food comes out in a way that it should. read more

Yuck. Chips were stale. I had the Mexican plate.. they mixed old brown lettuce with fresh so the taco and chalupa were not at all appetizing. The enchilada was very small. The cheese had no taste. My husband had an order of Gabriella Nachos. Eight of the smallest nachos ever. Over $1.00 per nacho. Ridiculous. Save your money, wasn't worth it at all. We won't be back. Such a great addition to the Boerne dining repertoire. Full parking lot on weeknights and waiting lines are testaments that El Chaparral has filled an obvious void in the Boerne food scene. Excellent enchiladas, tamales, fajitas. Drinks are plenty stout - ranch waters were a little different than the sotol variety we make at home but still excellent. Big restaurant partitioned into smaller dining area instill a perception of smaller, enjoyable spaces. Decor is fantastic. Family friendly. Half of Boerne appears to be present at any given time. We miss the place on main street in the funky old haunted mansion but here's to many successful years in the new location. Well done. read more
