The most welcoming restaurant environment I've experienced in a while. It was evident they knew how to make the customers feel at home upon arrival. The warm greeting, the interaction, and the sense of humor were great! It's a family owned restaurant and "mom" took my order and daughter rang me up and both were pleasant. Came in for lunch specifically for the carnitas as thy are the specialty of the house. Walking and I could see they were ready for the holidays with thir Mexican inspired tree. Lots of fun ornaments on this tree. Walked up to the counter to place our order and the lady helping us was very welcoming and friendly. We orderd a plater with carnitas and one with carne asada. They both came with fried beans, mexican rice, salad, and corn tortillas. The food was good, however, I feel the recipe has changed or the cook is someone differnt as the flavor of the carnitas is not as before in the past visits here. After shopping all day we got hungry and carnitas is what GF and I decided on. This place did not disappoint. We got carnitas plater which not for some skin as well. Also came with rice and beans and homemade tortillas! It was all good. We also got asada nachos and it was great as well. You order your food from counter and they bring it to you. I tried the location in San Jose as well but this one is better. Rice was perfect and beans was ok. Nacho was good too but could have had more cheese. The chips held up well probably because we ask for the salsa on the side so it wouldn't get soggy. Will have to come back again when we are out in Gilroy. read more

I recommend the super chicken burrito especially for those that don't eat pork, they use the same flavoring that they put in the carnitas. OMG. I will drive the hour to this place - every time. The carnitas are amazing and we always get about 10lbs of mixed: carnitas, cuernitos and buche. We were going to order the "A" which is a family dinner to take home (we went for lunch) but their plates are so generous, we had so much leftover we had that for dinner. Customer service needs improvement. Walked in today to order carnitas to go around 5:30. I was in line along with about 5 other people and no one bothered to acknowledge us or let us know they were all out. The guy that gets the carnitas ready gives me a look like I'm bothering him! I asked him if I can get carnitas and that's when he just says there is no more. Would of been nice to know instead of waiting in line for a while! Cashier doesn't even bother to let anoyone know they are out as well! read more

The best carnitas in the area. They need to expand the restaurant, they are very limited to seating if you're dining in. They give you your food in a Togo container, which you may find kind of odd, but you won't have to ask for a to go container afterwards. read more

The restaurant should however invest in AC System because its humid, hot and so uncomfortable inside on a hot day. The food is always the best part about this establishment and it was spot on as usual but their customer service is sorely lacking now. For one thing there are no more waiters to take your order which I think is an unspeakable travesty. You have to place your order at the counter, you pay, they dole out MEASURED CUPS OF SALSA like it's going out of style and then you just wait to receive your food. The food is GREAT, the service is absolutely the pits now! I guess this what happens when the doofus Governor thinks it's a great idea to raise the minimum wage and cut the legs out of restauranteurs, when the President of your country is destroying left and right and we normally don't feel the squeeze but guess what it's happening all around us now! Decided on this place after walking around downtown gilroy. The food is not bad, however the customer service is not the best. They got my order wrong and I went to the counter to have them remake it. Asked for compensation due to inconvience and , a cashier name Jen finally gave me half my money back after having to argue back and forth with her. However, it took a long time for them to remake my food and the friends I was with were already half way done with their food, so I just asked for full refund. The cashier staff was rude, disorganized, and some appeared to be very young teens just sitting around the counter. The only employee that was very nice was an older man who greeted us and gave us a sample of their carnitas. Wow, it's the first time ever I've been here! I even lived in Gilroy...... This spot has very tasty carnitas, I would definitely come back. I ordered the complete family meal, it comes as one pound of carnitas, rice, beans, tortillas (your choice of corn or flour), red salsa, green salsa, onions, lime, radish and onion. Packed very nicely in 2 bags! I also ordered an asada super burrito, if I had to do it again I would not order asada. The meat just lacked flavor, the burrito itself was bland and the toppings were not distributed evenly. But the family meal on the other hand was delish. Carnitas was flavorful and tender. The beans and rice had great flavor too, the whole set up was the way to go. The next time I pass through town I will place another to go order for sure, but I'll stick with what their known for. Horrible customer service. They suddenly come to a line of +15 people and say "wait for 15min". At that point you say, well 15min is not much given that I have been making a line for 5min-10min. Then, 30min later and still there. Maybe they are just about to bring carnitas. But they kept taking carnitas to the outside to other orders. Then, 1hr later they were ready. The 15min became 1hr, and by then my 3 kids started to feel the pain of being standing waiting. On top of it, they kept the bad service with another 5mins to bring rice/tortillas that I already ordered and paid for. They knew it was 1hr wait but decided to deceive us with 15min promise. This was my first visit. Finally made it here. I live in Gilroy, however Carnitas Michoacan is well known in San Jose. There is seating right in the vicinity of the entrance. The seating was ok... I think they need a better seating arrangement to handle their business. We arrived a little after 5 p.m., As we were sitting, business picked up pretty quick. I ordered the Carnitas, my son ordered a carne asada burrito. The carnitas did not disappoint, tasty, succulent, and well seasoned. The sides were good, not the best or the worst.
