I ordered the menudo and was very disappointed. If you like menudo with nothing but tripe this spot is for you. I prefer a balance of tripe and hominy and I had 8 hominy in bowl and the rest was tripe and the bowl was served cool and not hot. I asked by there was no hominy and the female Server said that is how their menudo is but the pozole has more hominy. I found it odd when I made the comment to the server about 8 hominy and a cool bowl of menudo that she never offered to see if perhaps I wanted something else. I definitely would not buy the menudo again. In addition this place charges you for everything. If you want a slice of lime your charged, radish you're charged, my brother ordered a chimichanga and asked for the sauce that goes on top of it to be served in the side and he was charged for it as if the chimichanga did not come with sauce. read more

Very disappointed. I haven't been here in years. I moved out of state and every time I come home my family doesn't want to visit saying the food isn't good anymore. I talked them into it on my last trip and although the food was good. The service was horrible! There were literally 6 waiters/waitresses/front of house people and 3 dishwasher/cooks/back of house employees.. and waited 5+ mins for drink and chip refills and boxes when we were ready to leave. Mind you it was just our table and 2 others in the restaurant. And to make matters worse the female owner just sat at the bar while ALL employees stood around laughing and talking. Street size tacos for $.99 on Tuesdays. The regular tacos they sell are between $2.50-$3.50 but the tacos are bigger. I had the ultimate wet burrito $12.00 which was huge and could easily share between two people. Deserts are yummy and amazing. We had Fried Ice Cream $5.00. The only Mexican restaurant in Cherry Valley. It is a cute place and they have alcohol!!! Food is good, overpriced nonetheless. They really like their customers and have an entertaining Instagram page. My only complaint is eating there at lunch time during the week. All the "cool" high school kids take over and they're obnoxious beyond words. I don't like to go spent 13+ a plate to sit and have to endure Britney and Tommy being loudmouth teens. A Green Wet Burrito & A Red wet burrito. 19.18 for both a bit pricey and okay for the price. It costs $25 to get a tablespoon of sides which they call 'the supreme'. Not the most authentic but its was an okay burrito rice bean and ur choice of meat, I chose carnitàs. No cilantro or onions which in my opinion is a staple in a burrito. read more

This place is worth a drive over to check out the torta and the shrimp tacos. First off you have to like the buttery grilled bread the the torta is served. It's got a shmear of refried beans with carne asada on it. Lettuce, tomato, and mayo round out the sandwich. Taco Tuesday does not include fish or shrimp tacos. The shrimp is pricey at 4.99 but had 4-5 large shrimp in it. They are cooked in a soy like sauce and make for a fun taco with or without lime. The bill came and I noticed they charged 4 dollars for the small tomato. I complained and they said that's what it is. We are so sad that El Charro is just not the same after all the Covid craziness. We definitely try to support some of the local places, but it is getting harder and harder when the prices are raised but the quality of everything is lowered. The service took long , food was no good and pricey, plus the food served on styrofoam boxes while dining inside the restaurant. Food tasted like taco truck or concession stand food. Wow! Never knew this place existed! This was the first time for my wife and I. What a great experience. A tall woman, I am assuming the manager/hostess (maybe the owner?) dressed all in black greeted us immediately as we walked in the restaurant. She was a genuine floor general! Put us at ease, made us feel welcome and seated us straightaway. The place was bustling! The restaurant was on point telling us a great event was about to be had. The efficiency and effectiveness of each and every employee was clearly evident. Whether it was clearing tables, delivering hot and delicious food, filling water glasses, recognizing we were out of chips or needed a napkin it was done quickly and quietly. The establishment was booming, yet everyone who entered was seated right away. We wanted for nothing. Our waiter was George. He was literate, friendly, open and intelligent. The social acumen of this staff was bar none one of the best! Truly - other restaurant staffs should have an inservice day and visit this place. As long time patrons of El Charro I have to say that we were pretty disappointed with the food yesterday. The service was very good and the young servers were really trying to do a good job. We were surprised at how few people were in the restaurant. The prices have gone up which is understandable considering inflation. But the food was very bland. We had chicken enchiladas, chili relleno, and steak fajitas. My son said the fajitas had very little steak and was mostly peppers. He said it tasted like the only seasoning used was salt. The flour tortillas were just microwaved. The enchiladas tasted like they were not really cooked - just filled with cooked chicken, rolled up, and put on the plate and then covered with canned sauce. They were hot only because the plate was heated. The chili relleno was a little better. With so many Mexican restaurants to choose from it's important to try and stand out. This used to be our favorite Mexican restaurant. The last few visits were a let-down. May not be back. read more

Even the hostess at the front who greets people and takes their order/seats them doesn't wear a mask or any sort of face covering when talking to strangers.
