We stopped in at Anejo for the first time, because we love Mexican food and trying new restaurants. Having been to dozens of this style of restaurant, I would say overall that it was average - not bad, but nothing impressive either. The chairs are really cool and decorative and the dining area and bathrooms are clean. The service was good and the food was pretty typical. My husband ordered the fajitas, and they did NOT come out fresh and sizzling - they were room temperature at best and there was very little meat. The kids meals, on the other hand, were huge! It was the first time my 10-year-old couldn't finish her kids meal plate. My lunch special was pretty yummy - grilled chicken and shrimp with beans, rice, and a generous sized guacamole salad. If you live in this town or are visiting and have a hankering for Mexican food, by all means, stop in! But if another Mexican place sets up shop in town, they may have to step up their game a bit to not lose business. read more

Went there last night with three friends. We were there about four hours chatting it up till they closed. Our server was Dustin, FANTASTIC service by him!!!! Very friendly, efficient, and courteous!! Went here when staying in shooting creek about 20 minutes away. We had no idea what to eat and decided on mexican and ended up at anejo . First impression is definitely a mexican restaurant, which i loved the authentic feel with staff speaking spanish to one another. Menu was extensive and had a ridiculous amount of options as we as create your own plate where you could pick and choose We dined-in almost immediately and received complimentary chips and salsa, which my party destroyed and loved. Staff is attentive and replaced our salsa without asking and was very helpful ordering. Waiter was also hilarious and didn't hesitate to joke with us, loved the experience. Food is cheap and portion sizes are massive for the price compared to what i'm used to. I was hungry from a day of hiking and barely finished my meal. I got a combo of a burrito, taco, and enchilada for less than $10! food was excellent and delicious. Obviously on the heavier side but who goes to a mexican restaurant for light food. We are on the hunt for good Mexican restaurants since we moved to NC. We recently tried Anejo and were mostly disappointed. The waiter told us the Texas margaritas have extra shots of tequila, but we discerned zero tequila (no tequila flavor nor "buzz") in the small and medium sizes of our drinks. They also lacked tart lime flavor and seemed to have an additional unwanted fruit flavor (orange?). At least they weren't sickly sweet. My husband's combo #11 was missing seasonings and tasted pretty bland. My tacos al pastor with grilled pineapple chunks was better and benefited from my adding salsa verde (not the same as their tomatillo sauce, which is red and spicy), cilantro, lime, and white onions. Interestingly, the rice and refried beans were satisfying. Adding the spicy red tomatillo sauce helped my husband's dish somewhat. The flan was good and simple, as I prefer (was not garnished with whipped cream and a cherry). We will continue to search elsewhere. read more

When it comes to Mexican food, I have pretty high standards. After all. I was raised on the best food, spent summers in Oaxaca, and learned from a culinary genius (from Mexico City) in college. Y'all, this place is legit. I came with my family over Labor Day and everything we ordered was great. The margaritas--just a touch of orange juice--NOMS. My parents had the Alejandro and the #16 and they were quite satisfied. I had the mole and, though a tad too runny, was flavorful. OH--GET THE FLAN. Definitely get the flan. Finally, the service was incredible. We loved our waiter and all of the wonderful folks with which we interacted. 100/10 will be coming back read more

We are Mexican food snobs and visiting from Atlanta we were looking for a good Mexican restaurant, not Americanized! Do not order the Margaritas, they are horrible! Get beer. The tortillas are handmade and all of the food was prepared fresh! The guacamole was not from fresh avocados, but was tasty. The cheese dip was thin but the salsas were great. Ask for the hot one. My kids ordered burritos and they were HUGE! read more

We had an excellent meal including the best chicken soup I've had in a long time with just the spice and a generous helping of avocado. Chicken fajitas (no photo, sorry) came out sizzling, stuffed poblanos filled with beef and chicken enchiladas in corn tortillas were delicious with traditional flavors. Was quite surprised by the quality and authenticity of the meals here. I asked for a chimichanga which is not on the menu and no issues at all Asked for the full bday treatment and got the sombrero, flan, song, and whip cream in the face. Great service and a lot of fun. read more

Despite all that is going on in the world, Anejo has stayed open to serve the Hayesville community warm, affordable, Mexican comfort food during the pandemic. They transitioned to an efficient to-go model with a car line for placing and picking up orders. Good to see things get back to normal now that the pandemic restrictions have come to an end. After trying various Mexican Restaurants in the area our neighbors suggested we try Añejo. It has become our go-to Mexica restaurant when we are in town. We drive from Marble to Hayesville to eat at Añejo. The service is friendly and efficient. As soon as you sit down they bring you fresh chips with salsa. My husband and I always order the fajitas for two and it doesn't disappoint. It's a huge portion filled with shrimp, chicken and steak. It comes sizzling in the pan. The tacos are also very good. Been going there for years. Their food has always been "so-so" at best. My go to dish, the fajitas, have NEVER come out sizzling (restaurant owners, that's the entire reason they come out on a frying pan) which means NOT fresh and NOT recently cooked, but previously cooked and warmed up on the "frying pan" And NEVER get their pork, as only had it twice and BOTH me and my wife BOTH times got food poisoning and threw up all night. And their Flan is VERY inconsistent. One day it's very soft and taste good and the other day it's tough and rocky and tastes like leather. Still, like everyone else, it's the only Mexican place in town, so what are you going to do? Which is also why you can ignore all of the good reviews, as after awhile, like us, you just get used to the local crappy food to the point it tastes good AND everyone knows the owners so they say good things... But TONIGHT I draw the line and will never go again! I WILL NOT BE POLICED WHILE I EAT!!! My wife has been getting a pitcher of beer there for years and whatever is left over we pour in a to go cup. Never a word from anybody. Yes I know it's technically illegal but so what, that's NOT their problem, business or concern. They are not responsible for the customers actions! They can't watch and see what every customers pours into a to go cup! What's next? Strip searchers at the door??? My wife has mental illness and because of this I am always a great tipper. We always spend anywhere from $50-$75. I ALWAYS tip $15-20. But tonight the waiter wanted to make a complete ASS of himself and go out of his way to come running across the restaurant when he saw us pour the beer in a cup and forbid us to leave with it!!!! Yes, FORBID. Pretty stupid because he didn't have the authority to prevent me from doing anything...and truth be told I almost got really mean and was getting ready to make a scene. But then I thought, thats a pretty stupid thing to do when the customers are getting ready to tip you!!! So I left NO tip. The beer was $6.99 so he paid for my beer AND saved me another $10 in tips. Small town surprise that rivals any authentic Mexican anywhere else in NC. Fresh chips and salsa and a house margarita are a great opener. Enormous menu full of old favorites and new ones. Had (and LOVED) the Quesadilla Mucho Grande. Enough food to feed a family of 2-3 for $8.50! Creamy cheese, marinated chicken and juicy shrimp with refried beans and amazing guacamole (creamy with a perfect kick of garlic) on the side. We've been eating at Anejo for a few years now and we love it. Food was always served hot and exactly as we ordered it (I love my tacos with just meat, onions and cilantro). It's truly authentic Mexican fare. Service was great and it seems each time we always get someone to wait on us who is very outgoing and attentive. Several weeks ago my wife and I decided to see if the new boy on the Mexican block was as good as or even better than my local favorite, El Alazan. The staff was friendly and attentive, but the food and management left a lot of room for improvement. My wife was relatively satisfied with her food, but I was not. I ordered Chile Verde, one of my favorite Mexican dishes. The pieces of pork were more fat than meat and had not been grilled. It was bland, fatty, and not even hot. When I asked for a hotter spicier salsa, I was told they did not have another salsa than the bland routine salsa. The enthusiastic waitress brought me two different bottles of habanero sauce. My complaints about the poor quality of the pork pieces appeared to confuse her. There was no offer to replace my dinner and no adjustment made on the bill. We will not be back. August 23, 2021. Anejo. Delicious Mexican food! We accidentally found this restaurant while visiting the area for the first time. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall. You know the saying : don't judge a book by it's cover. We ordered fajitas (mix chicken & beef) and combo 27, and added a couple of cold beers. Absolutely delicious and plentifully. When this Mexican Restaurant opened it quickly replaced the one that we always visited prior. The wait staff is always very nice and the food has yet to disappoint. My favorite there is their chicken soup, but my husband has yet to find his favorite since it's all tasty. Also, they serve a fantastic breakfast with both American and Mexican choices. The Mexican choices are by far my favorite since it's something that I would rarely prepare for breakfast at home for my family. Worth the visit and prices are very reasonable. read more
