Solid place to eat breakfast after a long night. I will say that it does get really busy, especially on the weekends. Always go for the Menudo, or the taco special. They also have plenty of parking in their main lot as well as options for kids too. They always also have the kindest servers, and bump some great classic tunes.

Costillas? Sadly it was only remnants. It seemed like someone's left overs.

Sadly this place was a family favorite but it's been on a decline. The dishes have been bland or served poorly. The flavors were great before. Posting this in hopes ownership takes the feedback. We want to remain loyal patrons but with prices rising everywhere consumers are conscious of where our money is spent.

I was so disappointed with the quality of food. I paid $25 for this and it is a sad molcajete.

I came here solely for menudo, I read a review saying best menudo in the valley. Menudo is tripe for those of you that don't know it's a tasty and flavorful meal with different organs spiced up quite nicely. This wasn't what I had unfortunately. The revered Mexican dish tasted like the bottom of the barrel at best. It had 3 pieces of meet and a whole lot of caldo. I found myself adding everything in sight just to get flavor. Who ever said it was the best maybe had a low bar. The other dish I had was good, the rice and beans were traditional, tortillas were good, and I got to see them cut the tortillas up to make the chips for the chips and salsa they set at every table. Molcajetes where big and plentiful and honestly made up for the menudo. The atmosphere was okay but it was close to the holidays. The service was good except for the snarky manager when I said i didn't like the menudo because it was just caldo. I'd go again just to try the mole, but not anytime soon. I recommend you head to East Los or pico area instead.

I'm order campechana today didn't have any favors. and didn't have a pata de Mula which is the most important see food. That's give a delicious favor to a campechana cocktail I'm really disappointed because feel like I'm throw my money away ! The. Rest of the mariscos. I'm could taste it wasn't fresh don't recommend. The only thing was good was the michelada ! it was tasty Campechanas

They have good Mexican food. I was there on the business day and it was few people there. Usually, it's busy on the weekend.

How does this look like 6 plates with nervio and pata? We didn't even get onion , lemons or cilantro.

Horrible , how does this look like 6 plates with pata and nervio. It barely has any meat

    Mole enchiladas so good.

BEST pozole and mecheladas by far good place for Mariscos as well! Mariachi on sundays and good salsa and chips.

Sometimes I get burned by intrusting Yelp's reviews but this time I came here blind, just happened to be driving by, was hungry and the Wife and I stopped in, the only thing I agree with most of the other reviews is the SERVICE IS SLOW... The Wife ordered some Camarones/Shrimp and I ordered Birria, both were very disappointing, I dropped about $33 and didn't even finish my food #NotHappy Camarones Costa Azul ($14.99) http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/el-compadre-restaurant-los-angeles-3#KPaqMmLjgKu6S1hKi74Hxw Camarones rellenos con queso envueltos en tocino y fritos for you Gabachos that's Shrimp stuffed with cheese wrapped in bacon and fried... when done right this is a Party in your mouth!, this was an Epic Fail. OVERCOOKED SHRIMP and UNDERCOOKED FRENCH FRIES!!!! First off their was NO CHEESE wrapped in the shrimp, the bacon was nice and crisp http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/el-compadre-restaurant-los-angeles-3#s4XvsQ4SCh_y_Aoqwr9cQA but the shrimp were overcooked and a bit rubbery, Yes they were edible but an epic fail of what should have been a killer dish. And what else can I say if you can't take a Frozen French Fry and cook it properly, look how lite it is http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/el-compadre-restaurant-los-angeles-3?select=RphtgknJ18U3Xp-XHSizxw#RphtgknJ18U3Xp-XHSizxw for the Bacon 1-Star Birria de Chivo ($10.50) http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/el-compadre-restaurant-los-angeles-3?select=RphtgknJ18U3Xp-XHSizxw#Cj7jUL6lkzTFEQJFBNbMuA Quite a bit of fat on that meat! I love a good bowl of Birria - Chivo/Goat, Red/Beef whatever! Birria should be judged on TWO things, Caldo/Consomme/Broth and Meat 50/50 IMO http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/el-compadre-restaurant-los-angeles-3?select=RphtgknJ18U3Xp-XHSizxw#hd4nZADn8R-mqEK-s8cBxg The meat Chivo/Goat was very fatty, it so had bones... some do some don't, what meat it did have after you cleaned it up was OK. The Caldo, with all the fat on the meat I was surprised the caldo was clean, many times when the meat is like this you'll find a lot of fat floating on top the caldo, but my problem with this caldo was it had NO flavor! a good caldo/broth is 50% of what makes a good Birria... this Failed, it was like Reddish/Brown WATER. I can't remember the last time I left food on the plate or bowl and left still hungry! and pissed off! this was some of the worst birria I've ever had! 1-Star YOU WANT GOOD MEXICAN FOOD? GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!

    Nice and cold!!!

We went to Salsa & Beer in Sun Valley off Sherman Way on a Friday evening around 7 PM, and overall,…read moreour experience was excellent!! When we arrived, we were given a basket of chips with bean dip while we waited for our food. The bean dip was a great surprise and had a nice kick with a lot of flavor. They also have a salsa bar available, but honestly, we never even needed it because everything tasted so good on its own. My wife had the chicken taquito combo, which came with rice and beans, and I had the carne asada and cheese enchilada plate, which also came with rice, beans, and three tortillas (I chose flour). The food was extremely tasty, perfectly seasoned, and came in very generous portions. One plate could easily feed two people. We were STUFFED!! My wife's chicken taquitos were packed with flavorful chicken, and my carne asada plate really caught me by surprise. I was expecting maybe one portion of carne asada, but it came with THREE large pieces! The food was so good that it didn't need any extra salt, salsa, or seasoning. It was already that good!! We also ordered two blended mango margaritas, and they were delicious! They were a good size, full of flavor, and the perfect addition to the meal. The only downsides to our experience were the parking and a couple of small service issues. Parking is very limited, but that also shows how busy and popular this place is. We were told there would be a 15 to 20 minute wait when we checked in, but we were seated after only about a minute, so that was a nice surprise. Our server also didn't really come by to check on us during the meal, which normally would be a problem. However, because everything tasted great and we didn't really need anything, it wasn't a big issue this time. Another thing to note is that they have different cash and credit card prices. I'm personally not a fan of that and would rather see one set price that factors in the cost of doing business, but at least we knew about it ahead of time and it wasn't a surprise. Overall, this place was a 5 star experience for us!! The food, portions, and flavors were all amazing. We loved this place and are definitely looking forward to coming back again.

Make sure you carry cash to save $3-$5, as they charge different prices for cash and credit cards…read more It should definitely be one set price; this is a rip-off. I decided to go back, and the food's spiciness was toned down this time. I'm not sure if it was because I brought it up to the server, but everything was cooked better this time.
