On the west side of Lankershim, in a strip mall with plentiful free parking, sits this great hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant. Sandwiched between useful enterprises like a Laundromat, a market and more. Good food. Great service. The interior is a little worn. My sister and I were given a very warm welcome by the beautiful proprietor, who prior to our entry, was enjoying the fruits of her labor at a table herself. (never trust a chef who doesn't eat their own cooking) Order at the menu/register where English, Spanish and pictures will help you make your decision and have a seat. My sister ordered the quesadilla combination plate and I ordered the birria. (stewed goat) My sister and I came here to do what many-a-sister have done before us. -Drown in comfort food to undo certain sorrows associated with any big break up. For some of us this means milkshakes and donuts, for others, it is melted cheese. To our good fortune, we were given homemade warm corn chips topped with savory stewed pinto beans on the house. (five stars) The birria. I LOVE birria. But I didn't love this one. It was served on a plate instead of a bowl, alongside beans rice and corn tortillas. What I love about my favorite style of birria de chivo, is the deep red rich broth that the goat is stewed in. I also prefer it on the bone. (insert funny joke) This birria was shredded, the flavor was very good, but it was dry. (3 stars) The sides were good, not great. (four stars) Here, the restroom is located in the nearby Laundromat. This restaurant will provide you with a coin or token to use for entry. This restroom is not for the faint of heart. Prima Donnas: Avoid. The reason that this restaurant earns four stars instead of three is in part the service, (Which is definitely five stars) but mostly because my sister said exactly what I wanted to hear her say: "This is the best quesadilla that I have ever had in my whole life!" And really? That is exactly what we came for. (one million stars) I would not order the birria again, but I would return to try something different. To be doted on and complimented by the charming owner who told me I was "muy bonita" Thanks! And to see my sister smile. To her ex: Thanks for helping us find this cool spot, the first of many on the path to forgetting you. And. You are never going to find a girl like her! Not ever!;-)

Once parked we were on our way inside oh man they were pretty busy we put our name on the waiting list. We were called within 15 minutes. After being seated we looked at the menus LOL all the prices were punched out of the menu. Our waiter said to scan the code on the table. The prices were different from the menu and the website they had a price for cash and a higher price for credit cards. We were served tortilla chips and bean dip. These were the best tortilla chips we had in any restaurant so far and the bean dip was excellent. Service was excellent as well. The food was great the flavors were presented well.

Uninspired food. This establishment used to be the great and have such amazing flavors. My chicken…read morehad grill marks but was cold and dry on top of sizling vegetables which were great. The tortilla chips tasted store bought and unsalted. No salt on the table to rectify that sitation. The service was excellent as usual. They have service done to a science. The decor is that same old warm comforting decor they have always had and it's really nice. I would go back with a group but eat before hand and eat something small. We have so many choices for great Mexican style food in So Cal and this establishment has slipped in quality, which bites because I have always loved this restaurant..

I didn't look inside , but likely the outside area is similar as the inside as to regards capacity. tortas very good. Moist compared to other restaurants. Chilaquiles . Super good. Only knock - the tortilla chips were already saggy by the time I got the plate. (The chilaquiles came about 10mins after my wife's tortas. ). A few minutes later (After my wife got her plate), a worker (maybe the manager?) asked what were you waiting for ? (I didn't complain) I told him , and about 5 mins later my plate came. I never saw him again. As for the tortilla chips - maybe that is their style . Big portions, I ate about half my plate. Service was above average overall. Not great. Maybe they were short staffed- idk. Didn't bother me. Parking in the lot and street. Don't think there will be a big issue.

Saturday morning review*…read more There was alot of people waiting at 10am but within 30 mins we were called into the patio. Seated & had a question for the waiter, but she was unsure, said she'd be back with the answer and disappeared for 15-20 mins and came back with no info, she had forgot what I had asked her. It was a simple question, just asked if they still had the Birria quezadillas, she had said yes & I asked for the price becus I couldn't find it on the menu, thats when she said she'd find out the price and didn't return for a long awhile. Then when she came back she forgot and just said "they dnt sell um anymore" She seemed disconnected and so unsure. A waiter should know the menu & what is discontinued. Or at the least find out and return quickly with the info, not take long and come back having forgot to even find out. But ok, no problem we just got our drinks and the café de Olla was good. The food arrived and the rice stood out more than the Chilaquiles. The pancakes were small for the price & didnt have much flavor, once the toppings were gone the pancakes were bland. Came here becus I saw comments online, but I dont think I'd go back, there are many other places with outstanding food & service. The Mexican rice & Café de olla were the standouts of the meal. If you live nearby I could see this being a good place to enjoy a meal, but to come in from farther out isn't worth the drive.
