In a rather nondescript location in the rear of a gas station convenience store you will, possibly, find El Coyote Charro and it was as good as all the hype on Yelp reported. It is a fast food, order at the counter, and have a seat at one of the plastic and Formica booths kind of place, just the way I like it. The place was very clean, kitchen included, but the cashier was not very engaging, although he brought my food to me without delay. My order was simple, three Carne Asada Tacos and one Al Pastor Taco (marinated, sliced pork - all $1.79/each) as well as an order of Guacamole and Chips ($3.75). The tacos had mucho meat, tender and delicious, having added cilantro, onion, and salsa from the relish bar. They also have a kettle full of FREE hot charro beans, so make sure to ask for a cup. The guacamole was also very good and they even fried the large order of fresh tortilla chips while I waited. I do not give out 5-star ratings willy-nilly, but I could find little to downgrade at El Coyote Charro except for the lack of enthusiasm of the staff and the fact that I could not buy a beer or margarita to enjoy along with my wonderful $12 meal ... Pretty good. We came here after a soccer tournament. We tried tacos, quesadilla and burritos. We also tried their rice, beans, chips and salsa. The quesadilla was a little too cheesy. I honestly didn't think I've ever say this, but maybe my tastes have started to change. I had to eat around the top half and couldn't eat the bottom portion. Just too greasy for me. My kids liked their asada and pollo tacos and my husband liked his carnitas burrito. All said most things were good. Their cowboy beans were good, especially with the salsa bar toppings! Everyone liked the chips and salsa, the chips were a little too greasy for me-there I go again, middle age digestive issues! The service was decent, no bathroom inside so be prepared to walk about a block down the strip-mall! Overall I would recommend it to anyone looking for Mexican street food! read more

I am writing of my experience to warn other diners of the terrible service and unethical business practices of this restaurant. The wall of this restaurant has a huge menu painted on the wall (including prices). There were no paper menus, just the wall menu. We ordered our food and waited for our number to be called. While waiting, a glance at my receipt showed that I was overcharged for the items I ordered. The tacos are listed on the menu for $1.79, the chips and salsa for $2.89. I was charged $1.99 for the tacos and $3.99 for the chips and salsa. I approached the employee to ask about the discrepancy and she just shrugged her shoulders and told me the menu prices were all wrong and there was nothing she could do-- "it's just like that" is what she told us. It is not only unacceptable to misrepresent the prices on the menu, the employee's rude response was uncalled for. It is not unreasonable for a customer to ask about pricing errors, and when they exist, employees should not respond rudely. I was extremely polite about it, her poor attitude was unnecessary. This employee (see photo) was not even friendly when we ordered, and was downright rude when we asked why we were charged incorrectly. It is safe to say that she should not be in any role where she customer-facing. If this restaurant cannot run their business in a way that is honest and courteous to those they serve, then it's time to close up shop. read more

Oh man. I used to love this place. Was the best in town. Ownership changed and the food suffered to the point I stopped coming here. 2 years later remembering the delicious food I went back, only to be disappointed. Undeterred I went back 2 more times just to make sure they weren't just having a bad day. I ordered: Al pastor tacos: . I'm not sure what kind of meat that was but it was rubbery and bland. The trompo (rotisserie) they used to make it with sits unused, it's no longer made the right way. Carne asada tacos: . The meat was also flavorless and rubbery, lots of fat and gristle. Mulitas: . There was maybe 1/4 of the tortilla that had cheese. Asada fries: . The fries were good, the rest was awful. Avocado was black. Left most of it as inedible. Beans: . Good flavor. I got the Asada Fries and they where amazing! I've never had Mexican food with French Fries and it is a great combination. They have a salsa bar with onions, cilantro and lemons. The service is slow and the restaurant feels like a dive but El Coyote Charro is worth the visit. I'll definitely be back. Stopped in for lunch while visiting. It was quite busy, and crowded. Not limiting capacity or enforcing masks at all. I got three mulitas with chorizo and al pastor which were both delicious. My partner also tried the tacos and liked them. I would definitely return to try other items--I only took a star off because it didn't feel very safe given the current pandemic and no safety measures seemed to be enforced. read more

Yelp cat-fished me on this one... I should have trusted my gut instinct when I saw all the dirty tables with trash when I walked in. But I was REALLY hungry and not thinking straight. As you order you pass by the open kitchen, there was food everywhere on the ground and overall just looked untidy. There was a handmaid sign on the front door saying "cash only." We ordered our food and sat down, while cleaning our own table with napkins. The carne asada meat in my burrito was tasty. However the burrito overall was mediocre and very spicy (for me). Total bummer because we were looking forward to some delicious Mexican food. They need to deep clean this restaurant ASAP. read more

Utah shockingly has some really good Mexican food. We drove around Utah for July 4th last year and spent some time in St. George. Discovered this place on Yelp and decided to try it. My boyfriend had a very bad first impression of tacos in his younger years, so when he decided to try it again, this place just blew him away! This is probably his favorite Mexican spot, and he always tells people about his special time here. I thought we had it good in the Bay Area, but damn, the Mexican food out in Utah is fiiiiiire! We came in hungry, craving for some authentic Mexican food and this place did not disappoint us in any way. I can't say anything but good food, the best Pastor we've tried, we're from Chicago and have tried multiple places but this by far is the best we've tried. Do not go here GO NEXT DOOR the portions are small and I ordered two breakfast burritos and a pollo burrito and they labeled one of the breakfast burritos pollo and just didn't even give me the third burrito I ordered , until I mentioned it and told me it was the breakfast burrito but it was the pollo ! I got guacamole and when I got to the bottom it was brown and crusty like they were trying to hide how old it was . I ordered four sides of sour cream and as you can see it looks like one and charged $4 ... you don't get what you pay for and the quality does not match the price when in comparison with other like restaurants . I was in the mood for Mexican food and I wanted to support a locally-owned place instead of a chain. Found this place and after seeing the menu made a bee-line here. It smells so wonderful in here! The menu is painted on the wall, so as you wait in line you can decide what you'd like. I ordered 2 Mulitas al Pastor and 2 Small Tacos al Pastor. My wife ordered a Taco Salad. They have Coke products here, in case that matters to you--it does to my wife. They have Aguas Frescas too if you'd rather stay away from soda. Oh, and Mexican Coke in the bottle. They have a salsa station, but it's empty--I'm assuming because of the pandemic. I love the copper light fixtures hanging from the ceiling. I never would have found this perfect quick stop en route from Las Vegas to Zion National Park if it wasn't for all the fabulous Yelp reviews! And it was delicious and affordable and authentic. The crown jewel for me was the tripe taco: nicely crispy on the edges, flavorful, and just divine with the guacamole salsa, cilantro, onion, and line fixins. The lengua, chorizo, beef cheek, and al pastor tacos were also delicious. These are some of the best tacos I've had in years. The guac and chips was not the best I'be had. The guac could have benefited from more salt and flavor. The service was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant is bright and inviting and clean. Bathrooms are shared with neighboring restaurants and in the shopping complex, not the restaurant. read more

After reading good reviews, I Called in from my way back from zion. They told me it would be 20 minutes, perfect since I was 15 away. When I walked in and asked for my order they looked super confused because it wasn't made. Not impossible to do in downtime with 2 workers on a Sunday afternoon. How I love a great "authentic" Mexican taco!!!! I got a chorizo (my favorite taco), chicken, and asada (a little bit of fatty meat) taco, and all were great. I got 2 mulitas al pastor and they were the bomb (2 corn tortillas with cheese and pastor meat on the inside). The Horchata was fire as well! Solid 5 stars!!! Tacos are my thing, and these do not disappoint. I'm so glad I came here while in St. George. Yum-yum-yum! I ordered the chicken tacos and a chicken mulita- 2 corn tortillas w meat and cheese between them. Similar (but way better) to a quesadilla. The chicken was flavorful, and the salsas were the bomb. This is for the location next to Walmart. Horrible phone skills and communication. If you don't take phone orders after 9, then you need to say that on the phone. Don't take the order and then say it will take 15 minutes. When we arrived they said they don't make the food until the orderer arrives. It was 9:45 when we arrived and they close at 10, however they already had the whole restaurant closed including the kitchen. We ordered at 9:15 and the drive was longer than we expected. I wish they had just said over the phone we needed to come in to order or called us back to tell us that. Instead, we wasted our time getting there with no food. It also might have been a bit different if they were friendly but they were pissed we showed up. Again, they had 15 minutes till they were actually closed and we had called 45 minutes before they closed and "ordered" Also, yelp has them closing at 10:30 which they close at 10. We might have given them another try and just shrugged it off as a honest mistake, but the attitude we received and cold shoulder when we arrived was just icing on the cake after everything. read more

Walk up to a counter, place your order, sit and wait for excellence in Mexican cuisine! This day we sampled a variety of tacos for which none disappointed! The Pastor tacos though stood out above the rest by a long shot! Full of a distinct flavor that just won't stop with each bite! The Asada tacos were incredibly good as well with a great quality steak that is finely diced and not over cooked! I also had the Carnitas salad which surprised me in many ways. I love Carnitas and was wanting some beans and guacamole as well, and feeling a bit guilty about needing greens I said let's do the taco salad! Carnitas were fried perfectly and the rest of the salad was just loaded with ingredients that certainly outweighed the lettuce! This was a busy holiday weekend so I know there will be issues but the place is run down inside. The bench seats have huge holes in them. The tables were dirty. The garbages overflowing. I saw 3 people on staff, which I assume are all family members. They were working really diligently (bonus) but taking 5 minutes to clear off some tables would go a long way. Investing a small amount into the seating to redo the coverings would be nice as well. I also noticed there was a big old slab of meat on the counter in the back kitchen when we arrived. Who knows how long it had been back there. I saw the owner (or cook) pick it up and take it somewhere after we had been there for 30 minutes. Overall kitchen looked fairly clean. There are not many places I go where I can choose beef tongue, beef tripe, or pork belly (I think it was that) as my meat of choice. I wanted something different than asada, chicken, al pastor, etc so I went with the beef tongue burrito. The portion was big with rice, beans, onions, salsa, cheese, and your choice of meat. We also ordered the asada fries which were the best thing on the menu. My kids ordered a quesadilla, chicken burrito, and a bean and cheese burrito. The chicken was dry according to my daughter but I did not try it. On a whim we also ordered a mulitas and my wife like that. Overall we thought it was good. It does take a bit of time for food but it is made fresh to order and the staff are few so expect to wait on busy days. So food was good, service is slow, and a little investment in the interior would help me to raise the star rating. read more

Okay so I really wanted to like this business as is near the house and I love Mexican food. Gotta say it was more than a little disappointed. The first thing I noticed was that it was dark inside and all the fixtures overhead were covered in a layer of dusty fluffy grime. I should have left right there but this place has 4 stars so I'll try it. The prices were a bit high but that's how it is now everywhere. The review with the chewy gross fat was spot on. My burrito was barely filled and what was in there was greasy gristle. My husband purchased food with reckless abandon and guess what? All of his food was strange/gross as well. He never noticed messes and even he was pointing out how filthy it was in there. The menus had different prices for the same item depending on what screen you looked on. It's so sad to see a business where the owner clearly doesn't care. Maybe there's enough tourists in this area to keep it open? read more
