As opposed to drinking our meals in Sonoma we decided to add some sustenance to our bellies so we weren't escorted out of the last few wineries. Having stopped in another establishment that was reservations only (unbeknown to us), we happened upon the El Dorado Kitchen located on the main square. Walking in, the first thing you notice is the space is modern and welcoming. We were seated immediately for Brunch on a Sunday afternoon. Of the four meals ordered there wasn't a lacking dish in the group. Cobb Salad, Biscuits and Gravy, Fried Egg Pizza, and Huevos Rancheros. Now, I consider myself somewhat of a Huevos Rancheros expert and always jump at the chance to try it, so I was excited to find out that was the special of the day. it was a variation on the classic recipie using a flat bread to make a "Huevos Rancheros Wrap." It was easily one of the best versions that I've ever had. Service was great although we kept getting the hard sell to order alcohol, desserts, appetizers, etc. Other than that, we were happy to have accidentally discovered a new restaurant. read more

I ordered a seafood dish and was not happy at all! I paid $40, but they couldn't be bothered to wash the seafood out fully? Every bite was like I added a teaspoon of sand to it. Not impressed, won't be back. I had to throw the dish out and couldn't even finish it. read more

The El Dorado kitchen was a favorite place of mine in Sonoma. Food and service was consistently good, Except on this recent Easter Sunday. I made a reservation about a month ago and it was also my mother-in-laws birthday. The restaurant offered to have "happy birthday" put on the menus as a nice surprise. I was amazed at this offering and thought it would be a nice touch to start off the day. (And to note she called me again the day before when confirming my reservation and made note of this menu notation) However once we arrived, there was no special menu. When I asked about it they told me, "it was just too busy being Easter and we were not able to do it..sorry but be sure to have your server put a candle in the desert" This was not what I expected. So.. Fine, brushed that off and requested the server about desert. Desert arrived.. And no candle. It was disappointing to experience this uncoordinated and poor service when in the past it has always been great. Food was also just mediocre this time. Carrot ginger soup was delicious as a appetizer. The lamb chop entree was a large portion,but they were not consistently cooked correctly. One was raw while another was medium. Desert was not impressive. Oysters were not the best and in the past they had been fantastic. El Dorado I really hope you reassess and get back on your game. read more

Growing up in Sonoma, we would come here when my friends and I wanted to splurge. I have good memories here. Those have slowly been tarnished by the last few times I've been, but I have held out reviewing because I didn't want to let go of these memories. However tonight was the worst of the worst I've ever experienced at any dining restaurant. We were seated out on the patio and promptly ignored for 5 minutes. Within that five minutes, another couple were seated behind us. They were also ignored. Mind you we haven't even been asked if we want anything to drink or anything at all. We are just sitting looking at a menu with staff just walking past. Same with the other couple who are starting to look perturbed too. They finally get service after we've been sitting there for 10 more minutes. They get water and we are still sitting there. I've never just walked out of a restaurant but if I just wanted to sit at a table, I can do that in my own home. We left and went to The Girl and the Fig and had a grand time. Celebrated our anniversary with lunch this weekend - fantastic service - refilled water glasses without asking and refolded napkin when husband went to restroom. Enjoyed pistacios, fish of the day, mussels with frites, and celery soup - Complimentary dessert with candle. Ambience was nice as it was a cold day and the restaurant was so cozy and comfortable. Had lunch here today with my brother. Both of us were not impressed. The service was outstanding as well as the atmosphere. But, the food was very bland. I am an ex-chef and when I have a meal that costs a lot I expect my meal to have flavors that make my taste buds dance. They didn't dance. I ordered the Chicken Tostada and my brother ordered the fish tacos. Tostada was boring and not very filling. Chicken was tender but no flavor. I have had better tostdas at a small mexcian restaurant for half the cost and they are bigger and better. As for the fish tacos...he was not impressed. Plus, we were still hungry after our main meal so we ordered the chocolate mousse with cheese cake ice cream. It was good but nothing to write home about. In my humble opinion it could use more chocolate and bigger servings. The ice cream was delicious. The coffee and ice cream was the best part of our meal. Probably will not return. There are better places to go where you have excellent food and you don't leave feeling hungry. Prices way too high for what you get or should I say what you don't get. read more

We had a birthday celebration here with 12 people or so. The restaurant was pretty accommodating given our changing schedules and last minute additional guests. The truffle fries were pretty good and we ordered so many that they gave us on on the house and the carpaccio was great. I ordered the paella which had a lot of seafood but the rice was a bit... watery and crispy at the same time. Overall had an okay time but it kinda felt like just another nice expensive restaurant in Napa rather than a memorable experience. read more

Check your bill and credit card statement carefully" While on vacation, from Philadelphia, three couples dined at this restaurant, upon recommendation from the home owner where we rented. The food and service was adequate. I thought overpriced, for the quality and quantity. After reviewing our bill (over $400.00) we realized we were over charged a corking fee for three additional bottles of wine. The waiter, Alexandro, politely apologized and removed the excess charge from our bill. The bill was split three ways at $131.47 each, and charged to three separate credit cards. In November, after receiving my November VISA statement, I noticed I was overcharged again. My signed receipt was for $131.47, however, my VISA statement was $144.47. I called the restaurant manager, Linsay. She said she would credit my VISA card immediately. I never got the credit. I called two more times and got the run-around. After usually eating at Cafe La Haye when in Sonoma, I wanted to try somewhere new and EDK came recommended from a few people. It wasn't bad but it was certainly disappointed, highlighted perhaps by the lack of a sommelier. When we asked for him/her, we instead got the manager who was a "wine fan" but really wasn't helpful. To be clear, she tried to be very helpful, but a nice restaurant in Sonoma on the square really needs to understand the audience. This is a surprisingly large restaurant. You have the choice of sitting outside with heaters by the pool area for the hotel or inside. We opted to sit in the gorgeous restaurant. Service was incredible. Everything was brought to us immediately. I felt very well taken care of. The host greeted us as soon as we walked in the door, water was brought as soon as we sat down, bread was served right after we ordered, dinner was set down in front of us as soon as we had finished our bread, and our plates were cleared away right away at the end. I was very impressed. The dinner plates are a little pricey, but you really get great service for what you pay for. I ordered the duck, it was delicious, really top quality. Drinks were amazing. My fiance got the pear martini and I got a tropical concoction that came with a pineapple and a little umbrella. The only thing was wasn't worth ordering was the dessert. I would certainly classify this restaurant as one of those ones that you go to on a "special" night out. Very slick, modern, classy interior. Lots of different drinks and wines by the glass. Interesting entrees that are a bit small on the portions and high on the prices. Skip the "after dinner" drinks, in my opinion...nothing more than "sugar bombs" for the most part. FABULOUS! Who knew that sleepy little Sonoma would have such a trendy-Miami like gem. The food was outstanding-- mussels and frittes appetizer was beyond tasty-- the fries were salty, crispy goodness. The ahi tuna was seasoned and seared perfectly. Every dish I sampled was delicious and all of my friends were in agreement that the food was outstanding. The ambiance and scene was very Miami Beach, especially out on the patio by the pool. This is definitely the place to take out of towners to or to have a romantic dinner in Sonoma. Simply divine!!! read more

My boyfriend and I were excited to share a special evening at this restaurant. We made a reservation, yet when we were seated, we were seated in the front section instead of the dining area. Our waiter was less than attentive. We ordered drinks and a starter, and told him that we would decide on an entree. Another server brought the drinks and starter. After 20 minutes our waiter finally came back and took our dinner order.Our waiter never asked us how our meal was, yet we heard him ask other guests. We were in Sonoma for a wedding this weekend, so we stayed at the El Dorado Hotel. We ate at the El Derado Kitchen every day of our stay and always had excellent service/food at the bar and in the dining area. However, our last dining experience was extraordinary. The wedding got the best of us last night, so we were slightly hungover (mostly myself). Brandon, our server, could tell I was really hurting midway through our meal, so he had an employee at the restaurant run across the street to buy me Gatorade!!! What kind of server does that?!!! Not many!! Although it was a rough morning, Brandon made our experience a memorable one. We will definitely be back to the El Derado Kitchen when we visit again because of the outstanding service and delicious food we enjoyed here all weekend! Brandon, you are an incredible server. Our server was very nice and our first and second courses came out fast. The drinks were delicious! We had a party of 10 so it was required to have a fixed menu with a handful of starters and only 4 entree options. Everyone loved their choices though so no disappointments.
