I have been coming here since I was a little kid and have loved it every single time. I'm typically a 'taco Tuesday' kinda gal, but I ventured out on a Friday this time and enjoyed a 3-taco dinner! I sampled the carne Asada taco (2) as well as the Chile relleno, which was a first for me. The Chile relleno is a lightly battered poblano pepper stuffed with cheese and then placed inside double taco shells. It was really tasty but a lot of pepper!!! My go-to is always the carne asada and it never disappoints. Now the absolute best items at this restaurant are the spicy carrots and jalapeños to add on as a topping...make sure to ask for extras at the pick up counter before you leave!!! Second time in Chicago 2nd time eating here 2nd time being as satisfied as ever!!! Today I had a Steak Burrito - and it did not disappoint. The tortilla is thin & delicious but holds the pound of meat & feeling that it's stuffed with well. The steak is seasoned deliciously and packed into the burrito. Nothing like having steak fall over the place instead of lettuce! The burrito is rounded out with beans, lettuce & tomatoes. One of the best green sauces I've ever had not watery and super flavorful. El famous burrito is one of my favorite mexican restaurants to go to. Their burritos and tacos are such a great classic take on traditional mexican food. The portion sizes are also really fantastic. I know I always get my moneys worth when I go here. This time around, I got 1 shrimp and 2 steak tacos. They come with all the fixings, plus I ordered the dinner so they came with rice and beans as well. Nothing too special about the rice and beans. Quick, cheap, tasty, and filling -- not the fanciest food but satisfies taco binges well, especially on Taco Tuesday. The food here is usually good and sometimes very good, but can be inconsistent at times. Tacos here are my favorite item, particularly the pastor taco. Menu is fairly varied, with all the Mexican favorites available. Cooking speed is very fast, where you'll have no problem getting in and out for a quick lunch carryout or even dine-in. Parking can be a bit tricky at times due to the size of the strip mall, but it's also not super busy most of the time. Will never order here again, they gave me spoiled food! Went to pick up food during my lunch break and once at work I was greeted with mole enchiladas that were spoiled, when I called they said that their mole was done fresh almost every day, almost? I order tacos multiple times a week from this place. Usually placing the order over the phone. NOT ANYMORE! There have been 2 instances when I have called in and they have made the order wrong. They will not rectify it. Horrible customer service. Do not call in orders....when the staff writes the wrong order, they tell you they won't remake the order to correct it. I spend $150+ / week here. I am very upset that they can't fix a messed up order! This is NOT how you treat loyal customers. You fix the order, keep your customer happy and provide feedback to your staff to be more thorough when orders are placed. You also don't tell the customer to try to call back tomorrow to reach the manager. You take a message and you ensure that you call your customer back. read more

Ran in very quickly today grab a steak burrito. Service : Fast , nice and menu is super easy to navigate. Looks : Basic clean and lots of locals eating their favorites. Food: yummy , I got the loaded burrito (I added everything lol) . I also got fries and a Jamaica. The drink was slightly disappointing. But everything else is about a 4/5. It's basically Tex mex. although I did see some more traditional things on the menu but I'd have to go back and let you guys know. Just spent $20 for a chicken burrito, chips and salsa, and fountain drink. Getting basic ingredients like cheese or rice on the burrito are extra charges. There is a large sign on the fountain drink dispenser declaring no free refills. They're also cheap with the sauces, providing two small sauces for the burrito. The food was mediocre. My family of five ate here for dinner one Tuesday during the quarantine, and we were pleasantly surprised. Delicious tacos and humongous burritos!! I really enjoy their food. Great flavors! Not your typical boring, unseasoned restaurant food. This stuff tastes great! This is more of a "fast-food" type place, or a lunch place that you would hit up. They have a small seating area, and it's not comfy seating. There's only a couple hard booths, and the rest is high-tables. But when you're just gonna hit them up, eat quick and go - it's fine. Otherwise, pick up your food to take home. I agree with a previous reviewer - NO free refills is just annoying. It's kinda like giving your customers the finger. Don't be so cheap! I tried to find some solid Mexican cuisine when I moved to the area but wasn't impressed with anything till I stopped by here. The chicken tacos had a great flavor and were super moist! I was also super impressed by the fish tacos as well. I still have to try other dishes here but the salsa was actually really good too! I ordered a regular burrito with ground beef plus avocado and it was DELICIOUS!! And so huge! I'm proud of myself for finishing that thing. It was just so tasty! We shared a plate of nachos with ground beef as well. It comes served with guacamole and sour cream. Those things are a meal all on their own. Super cheesy and beefy and you just can't go wrong! The horchata is really tasty as well, and I love that it wasn't all ice/no drink. It was actually a cup full of horchata - the way it should be! Tex-Mex spot in Wheeling that does food right. The burritos here are HUGE and the sauces make the meals. Cleanliness can be a minor issue with tables not cleaned very fast, but they are really a take-out joint anyways. The food tends to the greasy side (Not necessarily a bad thing). The menu is fairly extensive and service is fast. The meats are what makes a difference here. With the grill right in front of you, you can easily see the fresh ground beef, steak, pork and chicken being put on the grill. Toppings are fresh. I have ordered chicken burrito. Never again in this place. I had two bites and threw the entire Burrito. Not Mexican food at all.

I'm giving them three stars. It is a to go type eatery. Not much places to sit. You enter order and move down a line. Recommend horchata. It always good. Consistent steak burrito or tacos. But as covid has effected supplies and inflation this is only sometime stop. But disappointed in nachos that used to be a meal in and of itself. Skimpy and cut back. Maybe none order often enough like we have for years. Also it felt different. Like maybe new owners or cooks or something which is a shame. Cuz like other reviewer said this place a staple in wheeling. Hopefully when prices drop they go back to being the best Around. My favorite Mexican restaurant in Wheeling. I've been going to this place for how long and I just really love their food. I would go here each time I am craving for Mexican foods because they have the best of it in the area based on experience especially their tacos and burritos. There are also times that I honestly experienced something not great but going back and forth to the place for a long time, I got used to it and there are just really times where everything is not good which is basically understandable. I love that the restaurant is consistent to their food and to their prices as well. The food is definitely delicious, full of flavor, fresh and the prices are very reasonable and this is also perfect whenever I am in a hurry or sometimes, I wanted food really fast. It is not something fancy which is really nice and the ambiance of the restaurant is very comfortable. Customer service of the restaurant is also great and the staffs are friendly and helpful. Their specialty is the seasoned Pollo meat. Some of the best shredded Pollo around. It's quite flavorful. Their Carne Asada and Chorizo are good tasting as well. They just do it right! I've been to more expensive Mexican restaurants and they can't compare to El Famous for taste and value. Great everything. Over the years I must have had everything on the menu. I like that the food is cooked to order. My favorite is the Pork taco Pastor, onions and cilantro. The tostados are crispy good. I usually don't get the burritos because I like to mix it up a bit, but there very good too. Good for breakfast. Eat in or take out. Very busy at lunch and dinner times. (GO LIONS!!), I was in the mood for Mexican food and couldn't find anything close by so I drove around the corner and found this place, I sat in the parking lot and did a "Yelp" on it and found the reviews were about 4 stars and the pics looked great. I decided to walk in to see what this place was all about!! With any visit I have to place something good and bad, being away from home I look for an intimate atmosphere, something that makes you feel welcomed. The lady at the front counter was kind of rude and somewhat had me thinking I was bothering her, After I placed my order I saw the cook come out and actually make my food from scratch! Just the opening stages of the preparation had me going more hungry than I was at the moment. Once they placed it on the counter I was in Love for sure!! The Tacos a perfect 10 on my yummy scale!! the Burrito I couldn't even finish. The Chips looked like they were store bought and not home made but where everything else fell short, the Tacos and Burrito was a sure GRAND SLAM!! I would recommend this place for anyone visiting the area looking for something better than Don Pablo's,Uncle Julio's,Taco Bell, Q-Doba, Or that other fast food taco joint that somehow slips my mind... I used to like this place for lunch, but they're doing a pet peeve of mine now - online orders have priority over walk-in. You can choose how to run your business and I respect that, but I don't have to participate in your business model. Today arrived at 11:10 and there were four people in the place and no one ordering. The staff took 5 minutes to acknowledge me and take my order because they were filling Uber Eats and other online orders. That's cool, I guess, but I'm standing right there and I have to wait 5 minutes because Jack from Uber Eats is obviously more important here. It didn't get better after I saw at least 12 orders get cooked and boxed while I waited. We all know El Famous orders take three minutes to prep - tops. So I, again, had to wait until online orders are filled, even though I'm looking right at you. So, if I ever want to eat here again, I'll just use Uber or even Yelp! ordering.
