I can't remember the last time I've been to an El Fenix. I used to go by there and get their chips and salsa to snack on whenever I had a road trip. I like their chips more than anything. I stopped by and ordered them, as well as, a chimichanga to go. Because foodies don't go to restaurants and not get food. With that being said, their food isn't the most seasoned in my opinion, but it gets the job done and the prices are reasonable.

El Fenix is one of our favorite Tex Mex restaurants. This Irving location is nice, it's spacious and has a large upstairs party room that overlooks the lower dining adorned with black wrought iron banister. For being a Friday night it was quiet which surprised me. We were seated promptly. Our server was great, very friendly and attentive. We ordered sweet tea which was delicious and refreshing along with complimentary chips and salsa. The chips and salsa were so good we ordered some to go with a pint of queso. I ordered the combination fajita salad; the meat was very tender and flavorful the mixed greens were crisp and fresh, the only thing that would make it better would be in house made ranch dressing; it's outsourced. My husband ordered beef enchiladas, not spectacular but it was good. Their prices are great except the queso they charged us $13.99 for a pint! That's more than my salad. Other than that we had a great dining experience.

Food and service is usually pretty dependable at this location. Chips are really good.

This is the bug found in my food order!

If could give zero stars I would. I opened up my sour cream enchiladas and my husband immediately saw a bug of unknown origin sitting right on top of the enchilada, embedded in the sour cream sauce. My whole meal was ruined. My husband lost his appetite. The whole meal was trash. I contacted Instacart and was told the only was to make a complaint was through the app. I filed the complaint and the app actually said my order was not eligible for refund. I am so mad and so hungry. I will never eat from thus restaurant again and I will never order restaurant food again through this app. Tge food was disgusting and the customer service was appalling

My happy place. I love the Irving location. Our server was painfully slow and inattentive on this visit but that is very rare so I didn't hold it against them in my review. Would love to go upstairs one day and see what it looks like up there. God was delicious and the restaurant it clean.

This was my first time in Texas and we heard that El Fenix was a good place to try. My experience here was overwhelming as there was no communication between the servers. We had two servers clean our tables, two servers ask us what we would like to drink, and they didn't even sound genuine about it. I ordered the Chalupa thinking it was going to be top notch. No. When it came out, I felt like I was in Taco Bell. Literally tasted like taco bell food. And honestly, I think I would have been better off buying from taco bell than the food here. This may be for some people, but I know it's not for me. I'm glad I tried this restaurant to say that I would not go again.

I brought my friend here after picking her up from the airport- it's always one of my favorite happy hour places for a margarita!!!! I believe the day we went they had an enchilada special, which was very reasonable, nothing to write home about though. I always recommend the frozen margs regardless of which location you're at!

Shortly later our drinks were brought to us and the servers returned for our appetizer order, which we declined and went straight to the meals. I ordered the Barbacoa Taco plate. It came with 3 tacos filled to the max as well as rice and black beans. My son ordered the Mole Enchilada plate. My tacos were moist and easy to eat, I added a little of the chip salsa to each which added to the flavor. I thought the rice and beans were well done as well. I did try some of my sons Mole Enchiladas. They had a chocolate flavor. He enjoyed them. The music, the decor and the layout are done nicely. You are able to freely talk at your table and not over hear people at the tables beside you. So kudos to that. I did enjoy my time spent here last night for dinner. Thank you Marcus, Sam, the staff and Mexican Sugar for a wonderful memory.

My compadre and I keyed in on the same dish - hatch chili enchiladas. All of their food is made.from scratch in small batches, so the wait is longer than some places. However, the quality is superior. We both loved our lunches. We also ordered yucca fries and a queso Blanco, which were quite good. The interior was very nice and modern. It was not too loud. All seats are high chairs, which my wife would've hated if she'd been on the trip. For us, it was comfortable. The reason this was not 5 stars is that the taste was not what we expected and the prices were high. If you order hatch chili anything, you expect a little spice from the chilis.. I didn't taste the hatch chili in my entree. Question Blanco was a little bland despite it being much higher quality than what I get locally. It was $25+tip for 2 enchiladas, 1 queso, and a soft drink. I recommend giving them a shot. It is a very nice place with nice people.

When we asked the manager about it, he didn't seem to know they changed this. 10/25/25 was 8.25% tax (including alcohol in the order). All recent bills were anywhere from 13% to 16.5% hidden in the "tax" line, not even itemized. I'm sure because they know most won't realize it. This may explain why on a Friday at 5pm (even with a social hour) the bar was empty except for one other couple. Not going to reduce the stars since I like many of the long-timers that work here, but whoever is running the show now should probably re-examine their decisions. #WWFD

We sat at the bar on a Friday afternoon and were greeted by a great bartender named Edgar. He gave us a few recommendations, so we thought we'd go with his suggestions. So happy we listened! The sea bass enchiladas with charbroiled shrimp were fantastic! I absolutely wasn't expecting the depth of flavors. It was an amazing dish for sure. The charbroiled filet mignon was the star of the show however. We were not expecting such a great steak at a Mexican restaurant. The table side charring was perfect! Charred to a perfect medium rare with the right amount of seasonings. If we're ever in Dallas/Irving area...we'd definitely return! Well done.

The inside reminds me of most of the Tex-Mex themed restaurants in Dallas. The FESTIVE colors, chairs & booth seating, bar photos on the wall. Service to the table was nothing exceptional. After scanning the menu, I ordered the trio fajita which is steak, chicken, and shrimp. I wanted to be able to pick my meat combo. I really just wanted the Chicken and Shrimp. Luckily, the Mister was able to eat the beef. They came sizzling! The Chicken was tender and the marinade was not over-powering. The shrimp was cooked but very fishy. I squeezed fresh lemon on it and it pulled out the intended flavor. I was not particularly awed with garnishments. I wanted shredded lettuce and maybe my choice of beans black or pinto. Nonetheless, the overall plate was good and I RECOMMEND for anyone looking for a high protein meal. The chips and dip came out first with both salsa and a bean dip. LOVED the bean dip as a counter to the spicy salsa. They did not have queso blanco but I know this is mostly a lower Mexico to central-America staple.

The manager also came and gave us free beef fajita samples since he found out it was our first time. The flavor and juiciness of the beef blew me away. My wife and I got queso to compliment the complimentary tortilla chips and salsa and bean dips. I was a big fan of the beans too, didn't think I would be. We ended up getting a trio (beef, chicken, shrimp) fajita 1/2 pound and it was perfect for the 2 of us. You can taste the grilled and charred flavor on the meats. The chicken and shrimp were slightly on the drier side but when combined with the sour cream, beans, guac, cheese, they were perfection. For the two people, the limitation ended up being more the toppings to the fajitas but it was just enough. At about $25 for 2, that was a steal. The queso was about $9. Right before we were about to leave, Kayla recommended the tres leches dessert and you know we had to try it. It was solid. Loved the cream on top. Definitely would come back again!

There was a time when Meso Maya was the go-to for upscale Mexican in Dallas. The culinary scene in Dallas has changed so much that it is not longer the case. The restaurant still has the warm ambience and remains in good condition even after all these years. It was too hot to sit on the patio so we ate indoors. The interior is smaller than I remember. The restaurant still starts you out with complimentary chips which are strips, and a smoky, spicy salsa. it was great. I started with the a mescal margarita and it was excellent.
