The enchiladas and tacos are amazing, and their queso is some of the best I've had. The atmosphere is great too -- clean, welcoming, and perfect whether you're going for lunch, dinner, or drinks with friends. The staff is friendly and attentive, making sure everything is perfect without being overbearing. So today 7/2/26. Went had nachos and some margaritas. Paid through Apple Pay and I was told that my payment didn't process. Although it said payment approved. Used another method of payment it went through. Called my bank and the payment I tried the first time had processed......they tried to get a double payment. Had a wonderful delicious dinner with my husband and daughter today celebrating our 41st anniversary and the food was fantastic! The atmosphere was nice and relaxing. Everyone was friendly. I had the tamale dinner. My husband had the brisket tacos. They were delicious! My daughter had the crunchy chicken enchilada dinner and it was "amazing"!! Great service. I asked for an alternative sauce for my tamales. I wanted a spicer sauce and Alan came out with a creamy pepper sauce that was tasty and had a little heat. Thanks Alan! By sheer chance, we happened to enjoy a meal at this Irving, TX location of Mi Cocina. This past Monday, we needed a meetup spot to catch-up with our daughter. Since this Mi Cocina was at about the halfway point between our residences, we chose it for an early dinner. We were very glad we selected Mi Cocina and were very pleased with almost every aspect of our dining experience! There were four of us in our party and we arrived at the restaurant right around 4:00, p.m.; so, a little early. Our first impression was that the restaurant was NOT a typical Mexican/Tex-Mex food restaurant. The restaurant is tastefully decorated, with a sort of mid-century modern design - clean lines, simple and unpretentious - it was also very clean! As appetizers, we ordered: the Cocina Platter, a small Queso, and the Guacamole "Mexicano." For our meals, we ordered: Cocina Changa, Beef Fajitas for Two, and the Crispy Taco Dinner. I appreciated very much that our appetizer order was sought at the time our drink order was taken. This allowed for us to receive the appetizers well in advance of our meals arriving to the table. We really enjoyed the timing of everything! Our Server was VERY attentive and no drink sat or even reached "empty." From the complimentary Chips & Salsa to the Last Bite, everything we ordered was fresh and tasty! The Salsa had the perfect level two-three of heat, the Pico de Gallo was perfectly made in tiny diced chunks, everything on the Cocina Platter was creatively made and delicious, and flavors of everything came through with prominence in their own right, without being overpowering. All of the food arrived at our table piping hot. The Beef Fajita meat flavor was awesome and the meat was so tender and of such a quality that there was no having to tug with every bite. The meat chewed perfectly!! There were only a few things that made the whole experience less than perfect. First, the short/stubby beer glasses, while very much appropriately chilled, are only about three inches tall and square shaped. My wife and daughter had a brief discussion about whether it was easier to drink from the glass out of a corner or along an edge. We got a chuckle out of it! My son's Cocina Changa lacked sauce or gravy, which he said he would have appreciated. That said, he did not speak up until the end of the meal, when I queried everyone about their meals. And finally, the toilet in the Men's Restroom was in need of a repair, with a worn Wax Seal. Lastly, the drinks were also fresh and tasty, with no slime in the ice machine or moldy flavor or smell. Always a plus!! The restroom was cleaned and stocked. We were so very happy to have found such a gem of a restaurant in the DFW area! Having experienced some of the best Tex-Mex/ Mexican food in Houston, New Mexico, and California, Mi Cocina is the ONLY Tex-Mex restaurant in the DFW area that I find to be on par with those other very good experiences! For your use, I've posted an image of the current menu. If you're one who appreciates a refined Mexican food experience and have longed to find the place for it, look no further because you have arrived! This is my location after moving back to the Las Colinas area a few years ago, and it's one of my favorites. The entire staff is just lovely, and management does a great job. They really make me feel at home. I typically order one of my 4-5 favorites, but I appreciate that they experiment with new menu items quite often. They've had several new fish items on the menu, which have been very good. Unfortunately, some menu items don't last, as I assume they just aren't that popular. I've been heartbroken over a few of them. I'm looking at you, chili crisp green beans! I miss the old (shrimp) ceviche with mango, and the new (shrimp) ceviche is okay. But I finally tried the redfish ceviche. OMG. It was so good! Why have I waited so long to try this? Speaking of shrimp/fish, this location nails the cooking every time. It's never overcooked or rubbery. Kudos to the kitchen. The restaurant is always clean and welcoming. I love the new booths/chairs, btw. This is literally my chill out and eat solo place. It just makes me happy! I visited this location before attending an event in the area. I wanted to get something while waiting on my group. I approached the hostess and she was very welcoming, great customer service and with a smile. The manager, I felt very uneasy about because as the hostess and I were speaking the manager was side eyeing me which made me uncomfortable. She wasn't responding/acknowledging what I was saying as I tried to include her in the conversation. Not so welcoming. After I was seated on the patio, my server took very good care of me (I apologize I don't recall his name but this was Thursday evening). He was consistent was checking back on me and making sure everything was well and helpful with recommending the portion size. I ordered a Pineapple agua Fresca & 1/2 order of Nachos Carbon Beef. The Nachos Carbon was DELICIOUS!! The flavor and portion size were satisfying. About midway through my meal I believe possibly another manager who had on a beautiful Calvin Klein blouse, check to see how I was doing and there was another gentleman also who asked how everything was. The staff here, minus the aforementioned, really added to a positive experience. It was really a beautiful evening considering the weather, the patio set up and I was seated near the fountain. I was really looking forward to enjoying my tacos "Mi Tierra" with fresh guacamole, but unfortunately the guacamole/ avocado was very dark and clearly oxidized. It did not look fresh at all. Staff was friendly and atmosphere was very family-friendly which I really enjoyed. We came to celebrate my mom's 60th birthday and it was very nice dinner. The only thing I didn't like was no the crowded way that they set us, but I didn't make reservations for this place so I couldn't really complain all that much. The food was great. I really enjoyed the salsa and chips. I get the quesadilla or the fajita platter and that's really good. We had a large group that went for a celebratory lunch today. I asked the waiter if the refried beans and rice are vegetarian-- he LIED and said yes. I received my order and quickly realized that they were not vegetarian. What is really sad is that my coworker, who is Muslim, also ordered the refried beans (which obviously contained LARD.) Went on a Friday night, and we were seated in the back quickly. Sat there with my family eating chips and dip with no water or silverware for more than 15 minutes. When I looked around, I did notice that everyone in the back seemed to be waiting for something. Waiter finally came to take our drink orders, at that point just give me water. Waited another 15 minutes for our food order to be taken. We were so frustrated at this point, we were tempted to just leave. I've been here before, always sat in the front of the house, order has always been speedy, and usually management comes around to make sure everything was ok. None of that happened last night. What should have been a 45 min to an hour meal took an hour and 35 minutes from the time we walked in to the time we paid. Thank goodness you can pay online because that would have taken another 15 minutes at least. Food was fine, but we filled up on chips and salsa waiting for service. First time here. The restaurant had good ratings on Yelp! The service was moving fairly fast considering it was a busy Friday night. Our waiter was excellent. Since it was our 1st time there, we were given a babalu ( dip sampler) that was very good. The menu is not crazy long and no desserts or sopapillas offered like other Mexican restaurants. I was craving a Gmfried fish but that wasn't available. I ordered the Poblano chicken enchiladas and chimichangas. Our chips and salsa were really good and replenished often. The food portions are a little small but they were tasty. Ambience was casual,family type restaurant. Overall, the service was awesome. Even had one of the owners? If someone was coming to town and I could take them to only one restaurant to give them a taste of DFW, it would be Mi Cocina and this restaurant in particular. My wife and I have it at the top of our regular spot list and it never disappoints. Mi Cocina has family roots and the staff is always welcoming in greeting us at the door where we don't have to wait long to get seated. My favorite dish is the chicken fajitas which I sometimes get with steak. It's jam packed with meat, onions, peppers, rice beans, pico - all of the things. What I love about Mi Cocina is that even though they've been around for a while, they've gotten better and more consistent. I had noticed that the chicken flavor was starting to be a little hit and miss - nothing terrible but slightly on the dry side, just a little off. Then all of a sudden, the flavor dramatically improved. A manager there stopped by our table one night and when I inquired about the change, he shared that they had started to use a new marinade that helped keep the meat moist while injecting more flavor. Outstanding! The only opportunity at Mi Cocina is with takeout: The food just seems to decrease in quality the longer it goes without being consumed and is not great heated up the next day. Also the last few times an item or two has been missing from the bag. Where I've landed on this though is that Mi Cocina entrees are best right out of the kitchen and it's worth it to take the time to dine in to get the maximum fantastic experience. read more

I wanted to love my shrimp soft tacos, but the white cream sauce was way too spicy with jalapeños and they didn't offer a non-spicy (or less spicy with less jalapeño) white sauce to accommodate, just sour cream. I didn't want to just leave the sauce off because that's the part of the meal that helps enhance the flavor of the tacos. I think that the flavor and the meal would have been great if not for all of the jalapeño, but the spicy flavor overpowered the dish and kind of ruined my experience of it. read more

I chose to come to Mi Cocina because I was recently in the area after picking up my fancy new glasses. The last time I was in the area was probably back in 2016. Right when I came in I noticed a huge change. For those that have not been in with these beautiful doors you're missing out. When I mentioned about the front being rebuilt I was reminded that they used to have a curtain just to hide the waiting area. WOW this place was definitely remodeled and it looked wonderful. I guess I had gotten to the restaurant before the rush and there was someone ready to take my order in less than 5 minutes. I chose to go with some Chicken. The "Mama's Chicken Con Hongos" is a seared chicken breast served with mushrooms, onions and Poblano Sauté with rice. I thought it was actually going to be a chicken breast but it ended up being more like chicken and vegetable Fajitas. But you can tell the food came right from the grill to the plate. The delicious food was still sizzling so much, I had to take the picture from a different angle to avoid the smoke. But the fact that the food is sizzling makes me more anxious to want to eat it. The food was perfect. I probably ate more than I was expecting to and there was still a lot leftover. If you don't want to take home leftovers, you could probably get by with sharing it with another friend. It was nice to see the manager around and helping out the staff. I almost didn't recognize him as being an employee because he's wearing a fancy shirt that one may wear while at Vegas or something. The guy definitely was nice though. When checking out, I had accidentally dropped my credit card. Apparently it went spinning under another customer's table. One of the waiters had noticed it and was so nice to get it for me. Though I wouldn't come here all the time because of the high prices, I still had a nice time. I think it would be great to have a lunch menu or maybe I just didn't notice when I was ordering. read more

Don't come here often, but always have a great, predictable meal when I do. The mambo taxis are still as good as ever and this time I tried the Crispy Chicken "Enchiladas Verdes" for the first time and they were great. Service provided by "Melissa B" was perfect. The only thing lacking at this particular location is the ambience. It is rather "dark and brown" looking. Tan everywhere and once they dim the lights it feels like there was a power outage more than an intentional atmosphere adjustment. Even a small bit of colorful accent lighting would go a long way in making this location's environment a bit less drab / depressing. read more

Food was not anything special or crazy, felt like a normal tex mex lunch which was nice. The restaurant has a nice interior as well. What was good was the complementary chips and salsa. I enjoy their salsa very much and ended up getting two serving of it. The server was attentive and always refilled the chips and salsa when he noticed it was low.
