I cannot believe how amazing this food was. I have driven by it many many times, and always wondered why we've never stopped in and today we decided to end what a great decision it was. We were seated immediately we were given chips and salsa are still wearing napkins immediately. We ordered cocktails. Of course those came and we were wonderful the whole entire inside of this restaurant it was amazing and gave everyone something to talk about so if you're ever in the area stop by you won't be disappointed. From the moment we waked in the place was inviting. Super clean dining area with the smell of the many delicious offerings on the menu. Music feels the dining experience with culture at a pleasant volume to hold a lengthy dining conversation with family without having to yell. Waitstaff is bilingual and responsive to guests needs quickly. The Decor is rooted with culture and festive. Huge bonus is the Kids menu and the wide selection. Seafood is very affordable and surprisingly hefty and filling for a price below any competition west of I-25. The bar area has seating to enjoy Happy Hour Mon. - Thr. which is a definite Bonus and more lively than nearby bars. I have been going to this place for the last 4 months pretty much once a week and order the same exact thing and in the last couple of weeks has continuously went down and rapidly the waitresses are over charging and every week for last few weeks has gotten out of control today was it for me I order the birria quesadilla and a drink to go and I. 3 weeks I have went to pa 20+taxes and tip and last week same order same drink came up to 25+taxes and tips but today she charges me for something other then a dr.pepper 6.99 and all of the sudden when questioned she didn't speak English anymore and she spoke English when I ordered my Togo for the week when I got home the dr.pepper is so horrible you can't drink it and I paid 6.99 for it before she would hand me the receipt and when I seen the amount she couldn't even answer and acted like she didn't speak English anymore the quesadilla was so soggy and floating in grease and it just turned into a soupy substance which just grossed me completely out the owners should be maintainting their staff and quality control and the sad part is I called them to explain the problem and was continually hung up on and I am NEVER AGAIN going back to this place....the owners have no control over the staff for the service they are supposed to provide and the quality of food that is being prepared I spent 30+ dollars for a styrofoam container of mushy sloppy so that was so disgusting that I will never spend another penny in the establishment I couldn't upload the photos read more

I use to love this place but the food has gone downhill. And the service, what service? I've been there a few times lately and I can't even get someone to serve us drinks let alone take our order. Their sewer smells awful too which is a big turnoff. I still think their salsa is the best I've ever had but lord, a large pop size cup is 13 bucks!? Was talking to an Uber driver about Mexican food once and he insisted I have to try El Fogon as it's his favorite in town. We finally made it in on Friday night recently and it was ok. Now I have to say I compare everything to my favorite Mexican restaurant in Aurora that sadly we moved rather far from, so it's really hard for any Mexican restaurant to compete with that. But let me go into a little detail. Margaritas- good, tried the Corona marg and it wasn't quite my cup of tea (marg) the beer wasn't flowing into the marg so I made the mistake of emptying the whole thing in and then it just tasted like watered down carbonated marg, not the restaurants fault but just an FYI if you are like me and haven't tried this. Alfie ordered a mango marg on the rocks and it was rather sweet but luckily the saving Grace was the tajin rim, but that required a lick of the spice mix with every sip to help cut the sweetness. Though I will say with the Tajin it was quite good, spice and mango is an excellent combo. If they just cut back the sweetness a touch it could be great. I also ordered a Cadillac marg after my corona one and it was good, there was just something lacking that I couldn't quite place my finger on...too much lime juice maybe I don't know. Either way would I drink them again, yes I am a trash panda when it comes to cocktails I'll drink pretty much anything lol, but am I dreaming about them...not exactly. Now onto the food. Chips and salsa were good. Pretty sure they blend up Bell Pepper in their salsa which I'm sure plenty of people like. Though I like pretty much every pepper out there Bell Pepper is like the only one I don't and I picked up on that flavor immediately. Still ate it though, and what I did appreciate is there was a little hint of heat in the salsa. I feel like too many places are scared to put any heat in their house salsa for all those spice babies out there so when I place toys on the brink of adding literally anything above mild I commend them!! We did however ask for a spicer hot sauce, which the lady insisted to be careful as it was very hot...it was in fact NOT very hot but I nice kick of heat. Again luckily of us and our leftovers we have quite the array at home. It was good flavor though and did add some heat just not the amount I was looking for. As for the combination plates, they were good. One thing I found odd that if you don't choose one of their pre chosen combo plates there aren't many meat options on the combo plate. You've got a chicken flauta and I think a beef taco but that's about it. Otherwise you are limited to bean (burrito or tostada) cheese enchilada, or crispy Chile relleno. I went Relleno, Fauta, and Bean Burrito. They were all good, just not the best. Still dreaming of you favorite Mexican spot in Aurora. I think it was the sauce that covered the items, It was a bit heavier maybe and not as flavorful as I am used to? I don't know. Either way, it was good. I don't want you to mistake the 3 stars as being bad. I view 3 stars as average, in the middle, not great, not bad but would come back. That's how I felt about this spot. I would come back, but it's not at the very top of my list. I will say I saw someone order fajitas and they looked and smelled bomb. Would probably try those next Time. read more

To day this place sucks is an under statement. Every time I went there they got worse and worse. I wish I could say it had to do with the pandemic, the under staffing issues. But, sadly no. The food is either mushy, overcooked and very greasy or the service is the worst I have ever seen. The last time I went. The lady asked me what kind of drink I wanted. I asked for a margarita and what I got was a Scooby drink. When I corrected her she literally looked at me and said well did you want this one instead. Staff was friendly and service was fast, they don't check on you often so if you need that don't expect coming here. But overall you won't be disappointed!! There was no room to pull it out and the giant booths were full of 2 tops.....blah. Our family of 4 sat our tushes here and made it work. It was tight, but it worked. The food was very good, flavorful, and the chile, for a white girl like me, was great! I love authentic green chile. Meh. Another so-so Mexican restaurant. Average all the way around. The inside of this place is cramped as hell and super tiny. You will most likely get bumped if you are sitting at one of the tables. All good if you manage to find a booth instead. Food quality is what you would expect, average. Average prices, average service, average everything. Seems like right on par with everything else around here as far as Mexican food. Actually right on par with everything else in this entire state as far as Mexican food. Don't expect anything super fancy or super tasty, but it is consistent, consistently average. LOL Pros: Big parking lot with easy parking Never is there much of a wait here, especially in the summertime when the patio opens up and expands their seating capacity by almost double. Average prices. Full bar TVs Cons: Nothing special here. They serve tilapia as their main fish just like every other Mexican restaurant in Colorado. Gross. Service is hit and miss. I'm a dessert freak, so I will start off by saying they have one if the best fried ice creams I have had, and I have had many. On to the food. I had the carnita plate. Very good carnitas but I had a big chunk of fat, that turns me off. The green Chile sauce on top was tasty I would have liked a little more. The rice and beans were also good, cooked just right and flavorful. My daughter had the posole, she said it was ok, she's had better. She likes it a little spicier. I didn't care for the salsa. We just ordered fountain drinks. The burrito came with lettuce, cheese & tomatoes. The hubby only got it smothered and the chicharrón extra. My meal came with the choice of flour or corn tortillas or bread. The restaurant became busy as we were eating and if we had more time we would have stayed to enjoy some other food options. I was really excited to try this place because it is really close to my house. The menu looked really good and I was really excited to try the food. We ordered, but after the server came back after 20 minutes of us waiting for our food to make sure something in our order was correct, I started to question whether or not she put our order in. After about 20 more minutes, with no food, an empty salsa and chip bowl, and everyone around us that came after us were enjoying their food, we got up and left. Meh. I ordered the Al Pastor torta. While the meat inside was good, the bread was burnt and it lacked the jalapeños that were stated as included on the menu. When we informed the waitress of this mishap, she was quick to dismiss us and stated that there are never jalapeños in the tortas. Having just double checked on their online menu, I can confirm that this incorrect. Also, my fiancé ordered the El Fogon burrito which has the option of chicken or steak. And with the choice of steak, he was served just the basic steak burrito which lacked the rice, guac, and sour cream that he had been expecting with his order. On top of this the chips were stale and the house margarita was very watered down and lacking any decent taste. I went here for lunch today and was very impressed. The chips and salsa were fresh and delicious, and the waitress was very friendly. My chicken mole enchiladas were phenomenal! El Fogon clearly does not skimp on the meat in its entrees the way some restaurants do, and the mole sauce was thick and rich. There is a menu insert detailing their eight or so lunch specials, all for $6.99. The rest of the menu was reasonably priced, especially considering the taste and quality. My wife swears by the Jalisco plate. I have tried a carne asada burrito, the quesadilla, and the tampiqueña, all of which have been excellent! The flauta in my tampiqueña was a little dry, otherwise everything else was excellent. I have come many times and would recommend trying anything because you will probably like it!
