El Hatuchay is located in the heart of North Hollywood, off Sherman way and cold water to be exact. They share a large parking lot with other surrounding businesses. My coworker and I decided to phone in our order ahead of our lunch time. We were quoted that it would be ready within 15 minutes. That's speedy service for you. We took our order to go, although the restaurant itself gave off cozy vibes internally. Decorated with flags from different countries. I ordered the "Lomo Saltado" which is a combo of white rice, strips of beef, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and French fries. This combo included an appetizer and I went with the "Papa a La Huancaina" it is Boiled potatoes topped with a creamy, spicy cheese sauce, garnished with olives and hard-boiled eggs. (note mine did not come with olives or hard-boiled eggs) For the Lomo Saltado: I really enjoyed the flavors of the sautéed onions, tomatoes, cilantro and the stripes of beef on top all sitting on french fries, wish it came with a little more meat. The juices that are released from the veggie and beef mix get absorbed by the French fries and so it elevates them, make sure to not let them sit for too long. They offer a larger plate with more meat, FYI. 4/5 very generous portions of white rice served along. For the Papa a La Huancaina: 3/5 the boiled potato went well with the creamy topping sauce. But mine did not come garnished nor a hardboiled egg in it. This is a cold dish-not hot but still delicious and different. overall, a decent peruvian restaurant near by, give them a shot next time you are around the area.

I've had El Hatuchay on my list for a while and finally checked them out. They are a lovely little Peruvian shop with quaint and vibrant decor. The staff were nice however they did get my companions order wrong even after double checking with us. However the food was excellent so we didn't mind. I ordered the Tallarines Verdes from the All Day Menu which came with a side of Papa A La Huancaina. I wasn't entirely sure outside of beef, spaghetti, and potatos what I'd actually be getting but it was all delicious. The Papa A La Huancaina was a chilled potato slice with a cheese sauce on top. I'm not the biggest fan of chilled potatos but this was delicious! For my main course I had the Tallarines Verdes, steak and pasta. It was fantastic. The steak was good and the pasta was delicious in a crema sauce with a hint of pesto it seemed. I loved it and made sure I saved some for leftovers which also remained delicious. I definitely recommend coming to El Hatuchay and I look forward to coming back and trying more off their menu.

Solid Peruvian spot in the valley. Portions are generous, parking is easy, and staff is friendly. My go to is the Lomo Saltado(obvi). They leave the salsa at the table which I love and give you free bread for the table. (Which I cover in salsa cause it's so good) Had to leave a review because every time I come it hits the spot.

My mom's co-worker recommended this place as having good Peruvian food. I was already skeptical about how it would be but I decided to give it a try anyway. Upon arriving, the restaurant is your typical NoHo/Van Nuys run downish type of place. Don't get me wrong sometimes those types of places have the best food. But not in this case. We got a complimentary basket of warm bread with butter and aji. 2 of the breads did not have butter on them and 1 did have butter on them. I thought it was weird that one had butter and the others did not so I did not eat it. We asked the waitress this and she said no we never put butter on it, we give it to you on the side... O_o...OK, then this must have been someone bread they were going to eat and it somehow got mixed in our basket. She brought us a new one. We then ordered a Lomo Salted and a Ceviche de pescado..The lomo salted had sooo many potatoes and the meat was not a great cut of meat nor was it cooked properly in the wok. The meat should really have a nice grilled taste to it and cooked on high heat. This felt like it was boiled. The sauce was also not right. The ceviche was not that great either. They did not have any aji picado to go with it...just the green saucy aji. It was served with white potato instead of sweet potato. They used regular corn instead of the big toothed Peruvian corn. You can find this easily. Was not impressed at all with the food and will not go back.

This was one of those dining experiences that sticks with you, and not just because the food was amazing, but because the hospitality made it feel like you were being welcomed into someone's home. We started with the Yuca Frita with Huancaína, and it was the perfect introduction to the menu. The yuca fries were fried beautifully, crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. The huancaína sauce was rich, creamy, and full of flavor. That yellow sauce had a subtle warmth and depth without overpowering the yuca. It was comforting, and impossible to stop dipping. Next up was the Lomo Saltado and woah this dish alone is worth the visit. We ordered it with ribeye and chicken thigh, and the combination was incredible. Everything was sauteed perfectly with onions, tomatoes, and cilantro, creating that classic savory, tangy, umami-packed flavor Peruvian cuisine is known for. The meat was tender and juicy, the vegetables were cooked just right, and the French fries soaked up all that flavor beautifully. Served alongside fluffy white rice, it was hearty, soooo satisfying, and incredibly well balanced. You could tell this dish was made with intention and experience. We also tried the calamari which was another solid hit. And a first for me! Lightly fried, tender, and not rubbery at all. It was clearly fresh and cooked properly. It paired really well with everything else on the table and made for a great shareable dish. But the real star of the night was a dish that completely surprised my partner and I! It ended up being our favorite dish, and it was the Tigre de Leche. THIS was hands down one of the freshest, most vibrant things we tried. The citrus was bold and super lemony, in the best way possible. You could taste the lime juice, the chile, onion, and cilantro all working together to create something bright, refreshing, and layered. It was zesty, slightly spicy, and incredibly clean tasting. One of those dishes where every spoonful wakes up your palate. If you're a ceviche fan or just love bold citrus flavors, do NOT skip this. It is a definite MUST try. Another thing that deserves a special mention is their iconic green sauce. It seriously went with everything we ordered. Creamy, herby, and just the right amount of kick, it elevated every dish from the yuca and calamari to the Lomo Saltado. We found ourselves reaching for it nonstop. Seriously one of those sauces you immediately wish you could take home. The customer service truly elevated the entire experience. Fabrisio, the owner, was phenomenal! He took the time to personally explain each dish, walk us through the flavors, and even share the story of how his restaurant came to be. You can feel the passion he has. Not just for Peruvian cuisine, but for creating a welcoming space for people to enjoy it. Super nice guy, super chill, and genuinely down-to-earth. The whole place gave off strong family vibes, which made the meal even more enjoyable. Shoutout to Melissa as well, who was serving us. She was attentive, kind, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever making us feel rushed. The service felt thoughtful and personal, not transactional. Over all we had the best experience, truly. Whether you're new to Peruvian food or already love it, this spot is a gem. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. We will be back and have already recommended this place to my family and friends! Thanks so much for having me. :D

I was really looking forward to the ceviche and it was not good. The lime juice or the leche de Tigre was very bitter, and it just didn't taste good... Something was off about the ceviche, perhaps it spoiled quickly as my drive back home was an hour, i unfortunately had to throw it away because it did not taste edible. Service is quite friendly, and quick. I'd come give it a second try for the ceviche, maybe it was not the freshest batch or my commute was too long but I don't think food spoils that rapidly. Either way I definitely recommend the rotisserie chicken with the sides!

On one such date night, our most recent, Chio's managed to deliver what they usually do - filling Peruvian fare that contributed even more to the confidence that we'll eat here again down the line. We're grateful to have a Peruvian place in the neighborhood (we're lucky enough to be in the middle of the two Van Nuys locations) and the time has come to talk about it. I got the pasta sampler - the Fettuccine Dos Sabores - house made pesto fettucine; a not-quite-Alfredo, Peruvian cheese fettucine, both topped with steak and grated parmesan. I'd be remiss not to mention the au jus that made the creaminess of both pastas shine. The result was a savory steak and pasta dish that almost ate like a cheesy stew - which worked. I had enough of the cheese sauce in my beard to attest to the positive experience. And the spouse got Tacu Tacu a Lo Pobre, Chio's crunchy rice plate. It was alluring because the crunchy rice included beans in its makeup. Of course, served with grilled steak, a fried egg and fried plantains. The spouse observed the menu and Yelp pictures, and she thought it looked as advertised. She just wasn't sure if the rice and beans were supposed to be crunchier. She would have appreciated more of a bite in that direction. Sometimes, the good places don't need to be four and five stars to be gems. The ones that are alright, that you don't mind coming back to, to have at your faves or try something new, the continued patronage says it all. Looking forward to having us another meal at Chio's soon enough.
