Look I'm a gringo, so my knowledge of tortas is admittedly limited. That being said, Tortas Perronas is absolutely incredible. This has to be the best torta shop in town, there's no convincing me otherwise. The food is flavorful and reasonably priced. The restaurant is clean, small but plenty of tables. The staff is friendly and who I assume is the owner is so accommodating and always behind the counter for lunch willing to give me a torta suggestion. I've been wanting to try a torta so I went to Tortas las Perronas in Houston and tried their popular super cubana. This is a hefty sandwich. All tortas come with refried beans, tomato, avocado, onions, mayo, and a choice of jalapeno or chipotle peppers, I opted for the jalapeno. The super cubana also includes jamón, American cheese, Milanesa, pierna, salchicha, eggs, chorizo, and quesillo in addition to those ingredients. They also give you a green salsa and a Chipotle salsa. For the size of the torta, I'd say that this was pretty good value. The tortas were so flavorful and there were so many options to choose from. They also serve their tortas with no lettuce that is more consistent with Mexican style tortas as well as a toastier bread vs more fluffy. The service was great and super quick as well! Parking can be a bit limited as it is in a strip mall, so I guess it depends on the time of day and how busy the other businesses in the area are as well. Overall, this was fantastic! Got the super cubano to go and it was big and chock full of ingredients. I love tortas and always got them homemade from a Mexican coworker of mine so I was curious to see how a restaurant one would compare. It was pricey for a sandwich but it was delicious and the bread was super soft. Paying $12 for a torta seems criminal, even if the torta is filled with great ingredients and fluffy yet light bread. Nice that chips are included. Weird that water seems to be an extra charge. We also sampled the Green Chorizo and decided it was soooo good we have to buy a lb and take it home . The service was incredible and the owner and his wife were absolutely lovely. One of the employees rolled their eyes at me and proceeded to give me my money back, but she kept the extra three dollars I had left as a tip and didn't return it. Decided to stop in on Saturday with my husband. I got the hawiana which was great. I love pastor usually with grilled pineapple so I figured why not on a torta. I don't think I've ever been able to eat an entire torta before here without tearing it apart. The bread was soft but not soggy. It was perfectly toasted. My husband devoured his before I even got to try it. Whatever sauces they had on the table were great. The one had a bit of a Smokey taste and the other a bit sweet. There isn't much seating maybe 16 people tops. I'd say that overall it is fairly simple inside. It is more for a quick bite and go type rather than hang out forever. The service was quick. The girl who took out orders along with who I'm assuming was the owner were both bilingual. It was nice since most of the time I feel guilty going to some spots not being able to speak Spanish. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect with no big name across the top going in. But the folks were super nice especially to the random white girl stumbling in. I remember when Las Tortas Perronas was a cool hole in the wall before it gained its popularity. Now don't get me wrong, it's still a hidden hole in the wall gem. Add the two hot sauce, and it made it even better. Nortena - my boyfriend ordered this. Chorizo and breaded skirt steak. I personally liked this one the best, after taking a bite. And so did my boyfriend. The chorizo gave it that OOMPH it was so flavorful and every bite gave you something to smile about My BF and I couldn't stop talking about how good the bread was. Though it was thin, it was so crunchy and soft. It reminds you of a good po' boy bread. If I was really hungry, I probably could have inhaled another one. And that's exactly what my BF did. He ordered HAWAIANA Hawaiana - I can see how this is a top favorite. Every bite had a good chopped up ham pieces and pork chop pieces. The ham reminds you of the cubed pieces in a nicely egg omelette. He ate half and took the one half for lunch. We ordered two agua Frescas and man oh man you can tell how freshly made it is cause of the froth on top. My BF ordered the pineapple and I ordered the watermelon. Ugh I'm still thinking about it. When we got to the car, my BF had the biggest smile on his face. He told me that, that was the BEST Torta he's had in his life. Hidden gem in Houston but definitely a must try spot. Whether it's for lunch or dinner, their tortas are made to order and flavorful. I was a little intimidated by the reviews I saw beforehand but I'm glad I didn't let it deter me to stop by and try their tortas. Why 5 stars? Because this was my favorite stop of my trip to Houston. --- --- --- I have been waiting so long to write this review. Back in 2017, this spot landed on the Top 100 in the U.S. list, which is when I bookmarked it. I come back to Houston every year to visit family, but they live in Friendswood. My wife's family lives in Montgomery. This means that we're almost never in Spring Branch. And when I say almost never, I mean I don't think I've ever been here once. But after several Houston visits and no tortas, this was finally my year. I knew we'd be in Cypress and I was gonna be damned if we were going to drive back to Friendswood without making an all-important stop. And now that I've finally done it, I am so mad it took me this long. From the moment we walked in, Santana (the owner) could not have been more friendly and welcoming. We chatted about some of the items on the menu and his suggestions matched the top highlights on Yelp: the Super Cubana and the Hawaiian. My Mom and I split both and we could not believe how amazing every bite was. My Mom thought the Hawaiian was the better of the two, but I thought both were equally perfect. I also ordered a Mango Agua Fresca, but also took advantage of the free check-in offer at the time, which was Lime & Cucumber flavored. I liked the mango a bit more, but really enjoyed both. I will absolutely go out of my way to come back here again during a future Texas trip. I have had some truly memorable experiences over the years from restaurants I found on Yelp and this one stands out as one of my favorites. It's a small and humble business located in an area I'd never been to, but the amazing reviews brought me here like a mosquito to the light. Unassuming mom and pop tortas shop in a small plaza. It was slightly hard to find without an obvious marking above the shop. Interior is no frills and due to inflation, their prices have gone up quite a bit from previous years. We got the Nortena and the skirt steak torta. The wait was about 10 minutes and both were still fresh and solid by the time we got home to eat it. Overall it's a no frills, brunch/ savory option in the area.
