Our current favorite Mexican joint. Totally authentic, super fresh. They made the guacamole to order, the burritos are massive and flavorful. My only complaint would be that we were there on a 2 for $5 Margarita night, and I have a pretty good allergy to alcohol and I downed two of these with no reaction. This tells me that there was hardly any alcohol in it at all, which is fine by me, since I only paid $2.50 for each one, so I feel like I got what I paid for, lol. Wow. This restaurant was great. The margaritas were delicious and very cheap. Food was outstanding. Service was exquisite. This is my type of place. It is a little hole in the wall that doesn't look like much from the outside however, was fantastic. If you're craving some very good, very delicious Mexican food... Go no further. FOOD - best Mexican food in tampa so far Lengua is great in the taco or burrito Al pastor is awesome as well Guacamole is B+ Salsa or chile A- (though it seems to come automatically to the Mexican tables and not my gringo table). PRICE awesome low prices $3 glass of wine 7-8$ for a solid burrito. 2-3 for tacos. SERVICE One of the waitress we seem to get frequently has a terrible memory. We ask for chile or water what have you it never shows. She doesn't even seem to remember it late it's just lost. It's authentic as authentic can be. My husband lived abroad on the Yucatan peninsula and his eyes rolled into the back of his head after one bite of their Carnitas Tacos. It's is perfectly seasoned and delish. The restaurant isn't very attractive and the location sucks. I will say though, this hole in the wall is a portal to Mexico. The service sucks, but hey, it's a place where Mexican regulars go, so it's like family when you go there. Mexicans aren't as demanding about service, they just want a flavorful hearty meal before they go back to mowing lawns or building houses. My recommendation is the Meat by the pound. Carnitas or Steak are my fave. Order a Pound of Tortillas to go with it (It's hot and steamy). They throw in Salsa, fresh cut cilantro, lime and freshly cut diced yellow onions. Hidden in the industrial park off US 19 near Clearwater Toyota.... We only found this place by making a wrong turn. Figured what the heck and gave it a try. Since then we've been regulars. This place is the real deal - the first menus weren't even in English. we can often go in there and be the only English speakers. My rule of thumb, if it's full of midwesterners like me, it's probably not very good mexican food! Being a vegetarian, there were not too many things on the menu catering to my needs - but all you have to do is ask, they will make anything with themes or cheese or vegetables. For you carnivores, this place is known for their meat and they have the regular fixings and some more "authentic" choices. They have some interesting dishes with cactus that we really enjoyed and the burritos are amazing! Their chips and salsa are the real deal. They Fry em up fresh and hot - not out of the bag. My wife & I love Mexican food. In my opinion, there is more than 1 type. For example, there is American-ized Mexican food which can be excellent. And there is authentic Mexican food which can be authentic. This place truly has the authentic Mexican food.. We were the only ones in here at lunch that were non-Hispanic which is already a great sign. The chips & salsa are amazing. They have a green jalapeño sauce for the chips & a red chipotle sauce which we had to ask for. Both were spicy & flavorful. I ordered tacos. They came on fresh white corn tortillas & were incredible. I had them served with cilantro & onion which is the traditional Mexican way. I had Chicken Tinga tacos which was white meat chicken marinated in a chipotle sauce. I also had bistec tacos which were excellently flavored steak tacos. The steak was not gristly or fatty but instead perfectly flavored. They also came with lime wedges which perfectly complimented all the tacos. This place is an authentic gem. It's tucked away off a frontage road near Clearwater Toyota. Not good at all. Soda is served in a can or bottle and nearly room temperature. The food has little to no taste or seasoning. I had a multi-meat entree and it was served with breakfast style Canadian bacon, steak that was as thin as paper and as overcooked as it could be. This is authentic Mexican and it's good. The reason for the 3 stars versus 4 is because the waitress spilled half my beer says "sorry" walks away and takes an order from another table! The food has a good taste, but the tacos are too small for the money. They don't fill it up.... Also when you order delivery they do not speak any English and they use Mexican math..... 2 tacos with just beef should be 3.21 with tax not 4.38..... The price on the menu says 1.75 so that is 3.00 for 2 tacos.... Several people ordered so if they add delivery to each item they do not say..... Everybody who ordered got scalped.... So flipping good! Kind of tough to get to and a little dive-ish at first glance, but great service and very clean. Everything was fresh and tasty down to the refried beans. My lunch companion was excited to find authentic Mexican (NOT Tex-Mex) tacos with standard meat options such as chicken, steak and chorizo and less expected meat options such as beef tongue, beef head, beef tripe, pork stomach, pork skins, and barbacoa lamb. He took the road less expected, loved every bite and has been RAVING about the pork stomach for about three hours now! I enjoyed a plate of three sopas - chicken, steak, and chorizo. The margaritas were tasty, and while I suspect they might be wine based, I wasn't concerned enough to inquire. All in all a great experience. New to the area and was looking for a good Mexican meal. The reviews of people who had moved here from the Southwest and raved about it convinced me to try with me wife and daughter and we all loved it. Home made chips best we've ever had, and a surprisingly varied menu. Stuck to a tried and true burrito which was delicious. A very talented gentleman played guitar and harmonica and sang. He came to our table and sang "Teensy Weensy Spider" to my 10-month old grandson, who thoroughly enjoyed the event as well. Going back to check out the rest of the menu. First time here as I read in the TBT that they were one of the top 5 Spanish resturants in the area. Both my husband I got chicken dishes. The chicken had no flavor, very bland. I had a very hard time finishing my dinner. The waitress was very sweet and kept coming to our table to refill our drinks and to make sure everything was good. The good thing about this place is that I ordered a Coke and it was a bottled Coke. I haven't had a Coke like this in forever and it was perfect.
