We tried Mezkla on 8th Street in Holland recently, and it was one of those meals where everything just lined up. I had the steak quesadilla. My wife had the shrimp tacos. Both were excellent. The guacamole was fresh, bright, and clearly made with care. Nothing felt like an afterthought. What stood out most was the experience. The chef came out to check on our dinner personally. That kind of attention tells you something about the people behind the food. Mezkla sits right near the new theater strip on West 8th, and they're already expanding their dining room. Growth like that doesn't happen by accident. It happens when the food is good, the service is genuine, and people keep coming back. Attended the tulip festival in 46 degree weather, so this spot was a great reprieve for warm deliciousness. My family recommends the mini burritos for kids, spicy fish tacos, rice bowl and don't forget the guacamole. Ask for Alex she is the nicest and will be sure everyone has a good meal. read more

This was a marvelous little trendy hole in the wall Received amazing service and they include outdoor and indoor seating. Today was lovely so it was perfect The salsa for the chips left me cold but then the guacamole dip arrived and cancelled that criticism. Marvelous flavor! WOW! My wife and I both looked at each other and were like this is the BEST taco we ever had. Beats out the place in GR and a famous joint in Arizona. INSANE. We are 110% coming back. I love Mezkla! It is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Holland. I really have tried many things from this restaurant and haven't had anything I don't like! I've gone several times and had Alex as a server. She is really so amazing! The place is always so well decorated and very clean too. By far the cleanest restaurant in Holland. During the warm months they have beautiful outdoor seating on 8th street. The food tastes very fresh and they have vegan and vegetarian options too which is a huge plus! Portions are sometimes big depending on what you get so a lot of times you get to take home your lunch for the next day! Wish they would switch away from the styrofoam take away boxes though. So glad to see this locally run restaurant doing so well! read more

We stopped by for a light snack and got three tacos for $12: pastor, carne asada, and patatas. They also had two different salsas that were really delicious but maybe too spicy for some people. Parking is surprisingly easy for downtown Holland. I've been anticipating eating here since I heard they opened! They started as a food truck and now have a brick and mortar for fast casual dining. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with Mezkla. I had the pastor and chorizo tacos which were quite good. My wife had the tostados which had stale shells but the rest of it was tasty. They have indoor and outdoor seating and it is very clean and decorated well. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the service. They seemed understaffed the night that we were there. We asked for chips and salsa when we sat down and we had to ask for it again when we got our food. our waitress stopped at our table maybe twice and we had to ask other the other waitress for silverware and water. They are new so hopefully they can improve on these things. read more

We came here for dinner and the place was pretty quiet, only two other tables. Right away we were surprised to find out they charge $5 for a basket of chips. We were told refills were $2, but the bill came out to $10 for two baskets. On top of that they were out of salsa, which was strange given how slow it was, and gave us pico instead. It was fine, but not worth the price. The food itself was decent, except for the grilled fish taco. It was so fishy we couldn't eat it. When we mentioned it to our server, she said that the manager told her she couldn't take it off the bill just because we didn't like it. We asked for the manager but then were told there really isn't one, and the owner was out. We spoke to another server and mentioned it wasn't about liking the taco, as it wasn't edible. We've had food poisoning from fish multiple times and it wasn't worth the risk. None of the staff had the ability to help. Ultimately, that's on the owner more than anything. Eventually they did take it off, but it felt pretty awkward going back and forth over a $5 taco. Overall, between the cost of chips, no salsa, and the way the fish taco was handled, this place just missed the mark for us. We won't be back, though hopefully they figure some of these things out. read more

We were biking around the area and stopped in. We opted to buy tacos Ala cart- al pastor, chorizo, and a zucchini veggie with a side of rice and beans. The favorite was chorizo, although it seemed like it was more of a ground beef as opposed to ground pork but we don"t care either way, then pastor and zucchini didn't hold a rank. The pastor was dry, the zucchini had no other flavor to it, the rice was bland and barely got touched. The beans were soupy and good. The verde was too spicy for us but we can't handle the heat. Okay, big pros: the sweet potatoes and cactus and guac were all really well done; super cute inside; compostable to go packaging, very quick service. Cons: no outdoor seating and pricing. okay, I know I added guac, so that's on me, but I think it's kinda pricey for quantity and being in Michigan? Like it was LA pricing. I think it would've been cheaper but she added on some kind of service charge when she saw me pull out my credit card. So maybe bring cash? But after service charge and tip, it was about $18. Potential to be great, but just missing in some basic ways. Shrimp so much added salt, that can't enjoy the shrimp. Server never asked if our food was ok, but brought the bill. Elote temperature was cool, not warm, which is a dish they advertise on a sign. The food was fresh, except did they forgot to add the fresh cilantro on my dish. Comfortable seating outside. Some of these reviews are so opposite of our experience going to Mezkla. It's a small business with a fancy corporate feel!! It's so adorable when you walk by , through the window you see them making fresh tortillas from scratch. The service was amazing, the staff is kind and helpful answering any questions! I wish this place was a national chain! The food is so incredibly fresh! When I tell you it's the best tacos I've ever had, I'm not exaggerating. The burritos are insanely amazing too! I ate here traveling and I haven't stopped thinking about the food since! I will absolutely be making a trip here again just to eat their food! I had a weird situation happen here. We ordered our food and drink at the same time with the server. I first ordered a Mexican sprite and the female server put it in the tablet that they use to take orders. Then she said we are all out of them so what would I like instead. I then said I'll just stick with water. Then she preceded to say that she couldn't take the drink off the bill without a code that only the manager had, and the manager wasn't there, so could I pick another 4 dollar drink instead.. I said are you sure there's no way to delete the drink. She said no. So I ended up having a jarrito I didn't want for 4 dollars. The server was unwillingly to come up with a good solution and had a negative attitude the rest of the meal. The food was good. But I felt really weird about the situation with the drink. Extremely unimpressed with the service at Mezkla. They failed to prep our to-go order, so we had to wait while our order went to the back of queue. Ended up getting our food 30 minutes after our pickup time. We were not offered an apology or discount. Not even a free chips and salsa. For the price we paid, we deserved way better. Edit with an update: our late to-go order did not contain some items we had paid for! Upon needing to go back in and wait for the rest of our food, we again received no apology or discount. I loved that the they all seemed invested in the restaurant--cooks: staying super focused to ensure fast, fresh and delicious food; the hostess, checking in with all staff and attending to customers; servers checking in with cooks or using downtime to roll silverware or tidy up an area. The food was incredible too! Some of the best tacos in WMI. The vegan options were excellent. /taco nopales ( I love cactus!) /1 taco papa (sweet potato, cauliflower, cilantro, onion & avocado). I didn't get to try them out as a food truck, but always wanted to and super excited that they have a stationary location. I finally got a chance to come and try it with a friend and her kids. The menu seems bigger than the online. We were lucky that we didn't have to wait because it was busy even though we were approaching 1pm. The service was a little slow as they were experiencing technical issues off the portable machines to place orders through. I ordered 3 tacos - chorizo, steak, and pastor with rice and guacamole. Everything tasted fresh and delicious and it came with 2 salsa options in which we got the hot and medium. Both very flavorful and really enhanced the taste. I was a bit disappointed that with the pastor there was like one chunk of pineapple. I will not turn anyone down that wants to go here to eat and would come again.
