Food delicious and fresh. Been here many times over the years. Have had fresh fish, pulpo, shrimp--all served with rice and veggies. Fresh Sopa de Mariscos also good. Drinks and beer. Wow!!! This place is amazing! The food is delicious and service was great!!! Staff is very attentive and service was fast. We tried the lobster, fish, shrimp, cocktails, margaritas, beer and the desert was a plus! We tried going back two days later for a second round of great food but they were closed. This restaurant is at Mismaloya, a 15 minute drive from town. The food is incredibly fresh and well prepared. The pricing is reasonable and the portions are huge. This is one of the best values in town. I challenge anyone to find an Aguachile with as much shrimp as they give (see photo). The owner Thomas used to work in a nearby vacation house. When the house was sold he was let go, and he used his savings to open El Jacalito. His sons are the chef and waiter. Truly a family business that you see less and less as Puerto Vallarta grows. read more

It's not a fancy place but the food is fresh and fantastic! We stayed at Hotel Mousai and El Jacalito was recommended to us by our cab driver. It's a short 10 min ride from there. Honestly, it was our favorite meat at PV so we went there twice. The prices are beyond reasonable. We ordered, the lobster platter(came with 2-1/2 whole lobsters split, octopus, mixed shrimp platter and several rounds of tequila and it only cost about $80 US. We also ate at ElDorado, Las Palapas, Happy Lobster and we thought the food was the best here. read more

BEST, BEST, BEST food with beautiful view and friendly staff. It must go to restaurant if you are in Puerto Vallarta, it's not filled with tourist or tours. The restaurant is located in the middle of garden away from all the bustle and hustle. Don't worry you won't be hot they have many fans blowing air so you won't feel uncomfortable. The food is fresh so they make it as you order it, but they don't take too long. The price isn't expensive. The fajitas are full of flavour and expertly prepared. Even the rice and vegetables are cooked correctly. All the food served was at the absolute perfect temperature when the dishes reached the table. This place is a total head fake. You drive or walk by and you would think this may be a take-a-chance proposition. Once you order and dig in, you just say to yourself: Wow! It's that good! The servings are very large and we found we could have shared one order of the fajitas. The wine was excellent. Highly recommended, they take CREDIT CARDS and prices are very reasonable relative to the quantity and quality of the food. Service was prompt, respectful and accurate. As always, for real. Absolutely the best food value in the PV area. If you visit the zoo, El Jacalito is a must! The seafood platter with lobster, shrimp and fish is about $11 U.S. Service is excellent. Don't let the appearance fool you. It's just across the bridge in Mismaloya past the Barcelo Hotel, spotless restrooms and this year we missed the no-see-ums. I ate at the little seafood hut of El Jacalito several times during my stay in Mismaloya so I tried several dishes, all of which were great. Their drinks are good too! I had the mango margarita and pina colada. My favorite is the lobster combo pictured here. The food is so tasty and I always left happy. It is not a fancy place, but it sure is good and the prices are affordable. El Jacalito is open every day except Sundays and some holidays. They open at noon. read more

So happy my husband and I went here. We were fortunate to hear about this family run restaurant from people staying at our hotel. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed. Such delicious food and drinks. I had the mango margarita and my husband a regular margarita. Both were delicious. I had the garlic shrimp with rice and perfectly prepared veggies and my husband had the combo plate with lobster, shrimp, and fish filet. Words can't describe how delicious it was. We stopped by this place during our travel to Puerto Vallarta in 2018. The food was good and traditional dishes are served here. The floor is sandy and it's hard to keep the sand away from your feet and legs, especially during summer months. I remember getting bit by mosquitos and had mosquito bites for days. When traveling here keep your repellant close by. read more

Found this place on our way back from the Zoo. The family was ravished, so glad we stumbled on this place. Food is AMAZING! Service was great. We spoke to folks that were staying at local hotels. One couple was staying at a hotel that had a restaurant onsite and they walked over to el jacalito daily to enjoy breakfast and dinner. The portions were way more than we could eat. We could have easily split a serving (but the food was so good we got greedy). We've sent a few friends that have gone to mismaloya to our secret restaurant (not so secret now). read more

This place was excellent. Nice and SUPER CLEAN. I'm always hesitant to eat at the little places up at the beach and this one here is the best option. This place is also way cheaper than Tony's hide away "La choza". I had the coconut/ mango shrimp and they were fresh and yummy. We loved this place so much we came here 3 times in a five night stay, with plenty of other options in the area. We stayed at the Casa Iguana, right by the Zoo and playa mismaloya. It's on the road, which can be busy. Tonight over Octopus and shrimp ceviche, we looked around and tried to figure out what the f*** the reviews that mention a nice view are talking about. It's a lovely, sand floor restaurant full of plants, and if you sit out on the, I guess balcony-ish part you can see the mountains and those are nice, but this isn't the restaurant you come to for the sunset view. You come here for the superb seafood and the excellent service. Example: tonight we ate too soon to lunch, and couldn't get through everything. I thought the ceviche would make a nice breakfast with some leftover avocado and tortillas we had in our hotel room fridge, so we got it to go. When our waiter brought our box he brought us extra tortilla chips, no charge! How thoughtful! We've eaten the octopus, a shrimp quesadilla, the filet of fish, garlic style, and the coconut shrimp. The shrimp quesadilla, at 50 pesos, is a steal and will fill you up. Everything is reasonably priced, the service is just wonderful, no one tries to sell you anything, and it's a relaxing place to eat way too much food. read more
