Our son talked us into picking up some killer breakfast tacos on our way to New Orleans, glad he did. This little mom n pop place does tacos right. It's way out of our usual foraging area, but if we are ever back on this side of town again I know where to get my breakfast taco fix. This was another delightful yelp find. We were in town for my sons area band competition. My wife, My wanted to find a place to eat as we did not want to go with the band to the mall. It is truly a hole in the wall with question parking lol but that's a good sign in my books because when it's hard to find a spot that means people are there for a reason. we walked in And found a place to be packed wall-to-wall. There were a couple of tables that people had left and hadn't been busted yet so my wife decided to sit down at one of those tables. I walk to the counter area and the guy asked if I was a line and I said no I was just waiting for a table to be cleaned off. He was very helpful, he obviously been here before, and he said this was the line to order to go, and they would clean the tables off once they had a chance. Sure enough, they started to clean off the other table and my wife sat there. We were promptly waited on and got our drink orders while we perused the menu. lots of good choices and when you see a lot of Mexican ladies cooking in the kitchen that's a good feeling when you're going There for the authentic experience. We ordered our food and got some chips and salsa to go with the salsa was very good had a good spicy taste. The food was also very good. This very well deserved 5 star review is in direct reference to their breakfast tacos, specifically their Supreme taco which has beans, bacon, egg and cheese. It's easily the best breakfast taco in the East side and I think I could drink their salsa. It's not very spicy but prioritizes flavor over spice and it's just such a perfect compliment to their freshly made flour tortillas and great quality ingredients. I haven't tried anything else nor have I dined in but I'd say if you want to come in to eat here, come early or expect a small wait as it's not the biggest establishment but that just adds to the mystique of this small business. The wonderful hard working women in the back put a lot of effort into making every bite taste homemade and it shows! Their lemonade is also very tasty! read more

For me to put a one star says a lot. This is based on my first experience. I will begin with the history of attempting to visit. For months we have tried to visit the location but it was always closed. Finally, we stopped by in the early morning (9am) to see if it was open. We got in. The restaurant is small with approximately 10 tables. The to go order is at the opening which causes a line to form by the entrance. The line to check out passes along to the customers sitting down. Unfortunately, we cannot share the quality of food because we were never served. After 30 minutes and three other guest (who sat down after us) were served, we opted to leave. But not before asking another waitress for our food. Now, as we left we did see our food sitting in the counter, cold. This was one place we were looking forward to because of the reviews. Food - 0 stars We never tried the food. Customer service - 0 stars The waitress who took our order never brought our drinks or came back to check on us. This is true hole in the wall. I drove right by it on my first visit, because it doesn't even have a sign! I guess they don't want the wrong type of people just walking in. The small restaurant was nearly full on my visit and for good reason. There are 4 barstools for seating if the tables happen to be full. They have excellent prices, homemade everything it seems, friendly service and some of the best warm hot sauce I've ever had. I ordered the two tacos al carbon, which you can order as just tacos, or as a plate with rice beans, guacamole and pico. I chose the latter. This meal really hit the spot. You can't go wrong with homemade tortillas, homemade refried beans, guacamole and homemade pico. The beef fajita meat tasted delicious and was chopped up small. The interior is very interesting since it's a totally open kitchen and the restaurant is run by about 8 hispanic women. Didn't see any men here. Clientele consists of mainly hispanic people as well, with the occasional white person here and there. You will even see one of the ladies slicing up fresh skirts steaks if you happen to use the restroom during your visit and peek over at a nearby prep table. Went there to try out their lunch and it was pretty good. The chips and salsa were really good and probably one of the best I've had. (5/5) Then I ordered the Tacos al Carbon for lunch. The tortillas were handmade but thought the tacos were a little smaller than they serve at other restaurants but can't complain because the price was right. It's one of the cheapest Mexican food restaurants I've ever been to. Most meals are still under $8.00 I will definitely be back to try out their breakfast. read more

I kind of don't want to write a review for El Jalapeño because I'm mean and selfish and want to keep this place a secret, away from internet-dwelling, taco-seeking foodies....but I try to be a good person, therefore, I'll be honest with y'all....best b-tacs (breakfast tacos...get with the lingo duh) I've had in Houston and I've already planned a lunch outing here with visiting friends in two weeks. (CASH ONLY FYI) I had the huevos mexicanas taco and the egg and bacon taco. Boyf had a potato, egg and cheese taco and another one with bacon and mexican style eggs with peppers and onions. We shared a doble quesadilla which came with all the fixings. UGH so good, cheap and large portions. Kind of far from the loop and in an area with literally nothing around besides industries BUT THATS OK. Order in Spanish if you can, and if you can't....well, try a little harder honestly. Boyf and I were the only gringos in the whole place (so you know this is the real deal), except he's half Puerto Rican and I speak Spanish, the nice ladies cooking behind the counter made us feel embraced and welcome in egg taco heaven. read more

Went in there thought it was a cute place. But tables we're very tight together. The waitress came and took or drink order, after she came back with drinks she asked if we were ready and I told her I needed more time. She left and came back 30 seconds later to ask if we were ready I told her no I need more time. Then 30 seconds later she comes again and asks if we're ready and I tell her again no. She rolls her eyes and walks away and doesn't come back till 15 minutes later and gave us attitude. The food was cold but tasted okay. I was in the area and stopped by for breakfast tacos after getting a recommendation from my bank teller. They made everything from scratch (including the tortillas) right in front of me! The chorizo was cooked perfectly, the beans were exceptional, and the salsa fresh & flavorful. Everything was so good that I went back later for lunch (& was not disappointed)!
