The reyes of the sun are blocked out by towering infernos. Only without the infernos. Hopefully. I was shocked by the dreamy and miraculous taste of the tacos here. But not that shocked, because Houston has probably the best Mexican food in the whole country, all things considered. This is yet another place that has tacos from absolute heaven. The Carnitas and Barbacoa are absolutely some of the best I've ever tasted. I wasn't a big fan of the Carne Asada which is kind of cold and hard and dry, but that Barbacoa (or what she recommended, I can't remember honestly, I was too blown away by the taste to remember to ask), was miraculous. This is definitely a place I now come regularly for amazing tacos. The Tortas are good, but they're not amazing. I would definitely go with the tacos and the handmade flour tortillas. The parking situation is a bit sketchy, but with a little patience it is not a big deal...the food makes it all worth while. The staff is always friendly and works quickly to get orders out. If you come here with breakfast in your heart, we recommend the following plates: - Huevos a la Mexicana - Huevos con chorizo - Machacado a la mexicana - Chilaquiles or Chilaquiles mexicanos (subtle differences but both tasty) - Entomatadas If you come for lunch or dinner style meals, we recommed the Los Reyes Taquitos: - Al pastor - Trompo - Barbacoa - Beef fajita - Chicharon There is a constant flow of customers, the food always tastes fresh. Well, the place looks like your typical hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant on the East side of Houston. A bit rundown as some would say. I am one to take a look and see what the food is like in places like this. It is one that I would say you get an authentic Mexican food feel to it. The inside is clean, so do not let the burly outside façade scare you away. Servers speak English, so that was definitely a plus!! Tacos are on point for taste. No taco bell meat here! Oh, and they top your tacos with queso fresco, not shredded cheese, though there is nothing wrong with this, but the queso fresco is so much more awesome. I had the lengua, pastor and barbaquoa tacos and each of them was so goooooood! All I can say is that you are fed well for a minimal amount of money. Unfortunately, I am extremely disappointed. Ordering Tacos Tamaulipas was the worst mistake I could have done during lunch hours. Beans had a slime taste and Pineapple water tasted old. Not Authentic! It was my first time and the only reason I tried out the location was because of the reviews reaching 4stars. I have had better meals for 8.50 but this one costed me almost $20. The excess in onion versus the actual meat almost made me feel like I had onion tacos instead. At the moment I am almost feeling like throwing up my food but I have to get back to work in the heat. I'm highly disappointed on how improper the food handling was done here at this location. Luckily I was informed by my DoorDasher that the lady preparing our our food grabbed the rice with her bare hands and put in my plate, not even used a spoon or gloves. Luckily my driver saw her and made her redo the plate of food! While I was on the phone with him then she put on gloves. We are trying to be supportive of local restaurants during this pandemic but they should definitely be taking precautions handling food for the public. I tried to reach out to the restaurant to speak to a manager on duty but I was passed onto another worker who definitely was not interested on hearing what I had to say and refused to give me her name! I've saw this place on Yelp many times. I can never seem to be in a position to stop in and try it out while here working. I just had the opportunity and I am so grateful for stopping in. It's a small place, has a small parking lot, not easily spotted as you are approaching it. Once you walk in and sit down, it doesn't take long to be waited on. Very friendly, polite, prompt and attentive service. The food was fantastic. From the chips and dip to the tacos. I recommend this place to anybody that wants some great tacos.
