The ONE star is for their horrible customer service. My cousin and I decided to come here for lunch. We entered the restaurant and the hostess was on her cell phone for a few seconds before even acknowledging us. She realizes we are in front of her and quickly throws her phone to the side. She seats us in the Star Wars painted room (kudos to the artist! Awesome work). A young server with curly hair greets us and offers to take our drink order, two iced teas please. 15 mins had passed and 2 tables were turned and still no beverages and no acknowledgement to our table. 20 mins had passed and a female server had offered to take our order and asked if we had received our drinks, I politely said no and mentioned how long we initially waited. Half an hour into getting seated, our orders are in. We received House chips and salsa, some do the fried tortilla chips were underfried and chewy and some were dripping with fryer oil. Another half hour passes by and still no entrees. It's been an hour and all we've gotten were chips & salsa and a 30 minute wait for iced teas. Our food finally arrived, 1 hour and 15 mins later! 3 different servers, misfired iced teas and forgotten tortillas with our entrees. I ordered the Camarones A La Diabla. My butterfly shrimp was extremely over cooked and borderline rubbery. My cousin had ordered the Chipotle Chicken entree and the pools of oil in the sauce were enough to call it a day. We should have went to the pho place next door like we planned. 2 1/2 hours for an underwhelming meal. Will not be back. Also, did not appreciate the bussing trays with dirty rags and WINDEX bottles on the table tops. And the same trays being used to run drinks. So unsanitary. read more

I am now a Florida resident but I grew up in Manteca, born, raised, raised my kids there......I used to come here almost once a week! The service I received on 10/18/21 was the worst I have ever had. We had a group of 10 of us so we expected to wait--we called ahead but they said no reservations were allowed. We were told it would be approx 30-40 min when we arrived. 45 min later we went back to see how long and were told it would be another 30-35 min. We asked, since they had booths that fit 6 ppl each---if we could just split the group and take those booths (which we said we were ok with at our arrival check in)......you would have thought I was speaking in a foreign language. The hostess acted as if she didn't know where to seat us. The first waitress that came to start serving......didn't realize that we were a group----she served one table and ignored the other one. Table one had drinks ordered & all drinks served and chips & salsas provided and I asked if we could order our drinks. 6 more min later we had someone taking our order for drinks finally and another 8 min later we finally got our drinks & after then asking if we could have chips and salsa we waited another 7 min while they refilled the chips for table one as well as bringing our chips & salsa. Another 5 min went by after table 1 got their food order entered......then we were asked what we would like to order. The only reason they get one star in this review is because the food as always--is consistently good, which is a testament to their kitchen staff!! Flavors always on point! The service was so bad though that it really made me wonder where the manager and owner were during all of this evening. I don't know if the bad service was worth the taste of the food this time and in the future---when I came home for a visit. There are other places I miss the food that have much better service than El Jardin has now. read more

Came here on a Friday night and holy cow did it take long to be seated. Like honestly, it was close to an hour. We sat in the bar area while we waited and they gave us chips which was nice. The crowd here was a little strange. A lot of wandering eyes, almost like ever person was scoping out the people in there. Once we were seated our server was incredibly kind but since it was busy we hardly saw him. It took almost an hour for us to get our food. We were supposed to go to the movies after but had to get a refund and see our movie the next night. We did not expect it would take us 2 1/2 hours to eat dinner. The food was pretty good. Their pork was excellent and I honestly don't like pork very much. The enchilada was great with the green sauce. The rice and beans were perfectly seasoned and cooked. My horchata was probably one of the best horchata I've ever had. I'll definitely come back but not on a weekend, like ever. read more

I like to extend my gratitude to a great crew and family. I have been a customer who feels like family, for a very long time. We all have ups and downs though our paths in life, but these guys made it better, each and every time. Their food has no rating because it stands on its own, their place gets 100, for a feeling of been home. From the bar to the kitchen, everyone plays a great part. I know it's hard but it seems flawless due to a team who makes it right. My hat off to Chris, Josh, and they entire crew. I will drive 100 miles to share a drink or two. I was a Patron drinker, that went away fast. Thanks to a wonderful lady and friend who said "none of that." When you sit at the bar, strangers are no more. It feels like cheers every time with a crew giving much more. Josh has a secret menu, he gets down with that. I learned more about tequila from Chris, I got spoiled by that. I have gone other places, but none compare to you. I will continue to enjoy good food and times, as long as its with these crew. ThanK you for a great place, your customer of ten years plus. El Jardin is our go to Mexican restaurant when in Manteca. We use to go here every weekend when we lived there. Now that we're back in the bay hubby & I miss it so much that when we crave it we drive 1 -2 hours just to eat their yummy chips, salsa, fajita style burrito with shrimp & shrimp quesedilla. I took out 1 star bec sometimes when we go, the food takes forever & the carne asada is no bueno for me. But definitely try the succulent shrimp. Great food, come here often and they're food is amazing!! HOWEVER, this time I wanted something refreshing so I ordered a shrimp cocktail. Very disappointed with what I got. It was basically shrimp smothered in ketchup. If you're into shrimp and American cocktail sauce then you'll like this, but if you're looking for a traditional Mexican shrimp cocktail you'll be very disappointed. A MUST TRY... Went last night and was seated immediately. My cup was dirty, my fork had dried cilantro stuck to the back. They brought a red salsa and a cabbage pico which tasted like dirty sink water. The carnitas do not taste like carnitas, they were super marinated shredded pork. I got garlic shrimp enchiladas which were a 10/10 and I recommend. Waitress did not check on us after that or refill drinks. Hubby asked for a tall draft beer and they brought a regular. I think last night was a miss but if I went back maybe it would be a better experience. First meal came out super fast but my plate took atleast 5 minutes after my husband's. The staff at this restaurant is excellent that is why I am give me a three because I have been going here with my family for years and years the owner is wonderful and I have no complaints with the cleanliness of this place or the staff is excellent. However the price of the food has changed tremendously and to me it is over priced. I also think the beans are runny and rice has a different type of flavor to me it's not so great, all of my other family members love the food, the only thing I ever eat from here are the chips and the Asada tacos they are wonderful.
