Had a birthday dinner with my dad on Christmas evening. The food was good, restrooms were clean, and we enjoyed our meal. The chips are basically cheap store bought tortilla chips, similar to "Santa's," the salsa isn't that good either. Went here on Mother's Day 2026 specifically for the enchiladas suizas, only to find out they didn't have them. Settled for the carne asada, which was a huge disappointment--the meat was dry and the sauce was bland and watery. This place used to be one of my favorites, but the quality has clearly gone downhill. To top it off, I asked for charro beans and was given refried beans instead. Slow inattentive service. Our waitress disappeared for long periods of times and we waited long amounts of time just to order and pay. The food is classic tex-mex. I had the spinach enchiladas with a cream sauce that might have been flavoured with mushrooms. It was not one of the better versions that I have had. Even though the online menu said the plate came with white rice and black beans, I think you had to request those sides because mine came with the regular mexican rice and refried beans which were definitely not vegetarian having chicken stock and lard respectively. We had a great dinner here a few weeks back. My family had a business in the area so we'd come here for lunch quite a bit when I was younger. My aunt loved this place. It was soooo cold outside we ordered tea and caldo de pollo. The caldo came with arroz and buttered bread. It was good and very well worth it. The mariachis came in to perform. I had high hopes coming to El Jardin - a couple of coworkers swore by this place as their go-to Mexican restaurant close to work. Maybe I shouldn't have raised my expectations so high but unfortunately after our meal, I left dissatisfied. During lunch, you get free queso with salsa and chips. While I didn't try the queso myself, it was super runny - like they put in a filler because they didn't want to add too much cheese? The salsa had good flavor and the chips were okay - they were thicker than I expected and didn't really appear fresh (not even warm to the touch). I ended ordering the Ultimate Burrito off the lunch menu, stuffed with broiled shredded chicken with gravy on top with a side of rice and beans. The burrito was large in size and would have been a good value...if it had any taste. Sadly, the chicken wasn't even under seasoned, it just wasn't seasoned. The gravy was the only thing giving this burrito any flavor. The rice and beans were delicious, however. I ended up mixing some rice and beans with every bits of burrito to make up for the lack of burrito flavor. The service was okay. Our waitress wasn't bad, she kept our water cups filled, but didn't seem too pleased to do it (according to her facial expression). Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place. Waitress came and took our order for drinks but said she could not give us Alcoholic beverages because she had table with large group. YES! Give these guys another Blue Star Award! We were down in this way again with the in-laws and some other family. The in-laws wanted El Jardin, so we rolled on in and had another great dinner. Everyone loved it. From what I read on previous reviews, I took chance and tried one of the Seafood soups (Caldo de Camaron). So glad I did. It was freakin' awesome! I rarely, if ever, try seafood soups when I go out. This Caldo was very flavorful and it comes with two pieces of Texas Toast and wonderfully flavored Spanish-style white rice. You can easily get full on the small bowl. Other guests had the 'Jardin Deluxe', Carnitas de Puerco (pork meat fried and then cooked) and other dishes. All were very good. Everyone was happy. Even the coffee was good. Ok..so it's in the Hood'. Who cares. Some of the best food I've had in San Antonio is way down in the Hood' and it's awesome. read more

I recently came here with a group of friends on a weekday night. El Jardin has a great selection of authentic Mexican foods. Although it may look a little sketchy on the outside, I was extremely impressed by the overall quality of the restaurant. On this visit, I ordered a steak torta, which came out really quickly. For only about $7, you get a really large sandwich full of meat. The steak was very juicy and succulent, and the the bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The other platters came in really large portions too. Overall, my experience here was pretty overwhemling. The quality was great and the service was fast and efficient.I will be definitely coming back to visit in the future anytime that I am craving authentic Mexican food! read more

Pina Colada was not bad. Atmosphere was kinda dark inside. The good things about going here are the service and the food. Needs improvement on the up keeping of the inside, especially the restrooms. Second time I've been here and the restrooms are still filthy! Not likely I'll be returning. PS-get rid of the gumball machine! My new church group took me here and, like many new restaurants I am invited to, I was skeptical. However, I was definitely quite impressed with the food here. I know at a Tex-Mex or Mexican restaurant that the food is usually good if the salsa is tasty, and though the green salsa is nothing particularly special, the red salsa is well-cooked and has a nicely rounded chile heat, some of the best I've had for a while, and the chips are crispy. The mole enchiladas are constructed well and the sauce chocolaty as it typically is. The rice and beans are adequate. I would classify the restaurant as above average food, but with slightly above average prices to match, as fajitas run about $15 for one person. Then again, the awards this restaurant has received in the past will make it worth visiting. read more

We've been coming here for many many years. Every birthday or celebration has happened here. The food is great, the service is awesome, and the band is exactly what I need to get my Friday night started. We came here once again for happy hour. My mother and I enjoyed three margaritas each and let me tell you honey, you will definitely catch you a very nice buzz. Our waitress was Silvia and man was she an angel sent down from heaven. I have a very soft spot for people who know how to connect with children below the age of 12 and Silvia took care of my 4 year old as if was her own. My daughter felt like a princess just because of how attentive Silvia was with her. She was also attentive to us. My mother and I were gushing about her awesome she was as our waitress. Now the food, I mean c'mon we are never not satisfied. We keep coming back. For this day, I had a torta and it never disappoints me how delicious that is and my mom can never stop raving about how delicious the pozole is and I couldn't agree more. We found this place a couple of months ago, now we order from there once a week. Love the salsa, love the fresh tortillas, highly recommend the poblano chicken. We also really like the rice and beans, the enchiladas and the frozen margaritas. During the stay-home order, getting take-out from this place was a treat.
