I have to get five star El jefe Mexican grill for Great customer service and the best burritos in town

I went on a bean and cheese burrito kick a few years ago and remember this one beating out all the others I'd tried by a long shot, and finally got around to coming back to this place! Got the bean and cheese again and it's JUST as good as I remember! The tortilla is nice and soft, buttery, and well grilled. The bean and cheese is salty, smooth, with nice and melty cheesy goodness. So simple but so well done! They have lots of tasty sauces on the side too - we loved the cilantro and the chipotle mayo sauce. We also tried their new quesabirria tacos which were freshly grilled. Meat was tender and nicely favored, but wish it came with a side of consome for dipping! The service was super friendly, really appreciated that they took the time to chat with me about their tortillas! Great place for take out and they have a few tables inside if you want to eat it fresh. Great fast casual place with tasty food! Already excited for my next bean and cheese burrito! read more

Wow this was really delicious! I got two tacos with rice and beans and chips and it was way more than enough for a very hungry man. Cooked to order, really delicious pollo and birria for my two tacos, and a range of delicious fresh toppings. Kind of a hole in the wall more like a taco truck that's actually in a storefront. Only 3 or 4 tables. Really friendly people working there. And boy was the food good! read more

I had an online meeting to attend and needed lunch delivered, so I opt in for an online order. The chicken taco salad was full of ingredients you actually get to customize side toppings to be included in your salad beside your meat which is a define plus. I selected chicken and found the salad to be delicious. On the other-hand I found the actual shell seemed to exist only around the perimeter of this salad. The taquitos (Qty3) the fried tortillas were filled with a large portion of dry unseasoned dry chicken meat. I came here for Cinco de Mayo and got the Surf and Turf burrito, a potato Taco and the Pineapple drink. You get to pick and choose your ingredients and they are very generous about how much the put inside your burritos. Everything tasted freshly cooked and they had 4 kinds of hot sauce at the table to enhance the flavors. I was very happy with my food. I appreciate that someone came to check up on us while we were eating. El Jefe is a small joint that would probably fit less than 20 people. I did not see a public bathroom however they have two giant flat screens that were playing soccer. read more

The employees were really kind and I honestly loved it. They had a fan which made the room temperature a lot cooler than it was before. Also, I think the televisions watching boxing might have gotten me into boxing... Anyways the setting was not too bad, maybe a bit off at first because the surrounding businesses were closed and isolated. Also, there was no restrooms which is not too ideal to eat inside, but an awesome choice to do take out. Finally, the food was bomb and it comes to the final thought, out of 5, I would truly rate it a 4.3/5 of everything. read more

They have the best burrito you can get at this price. Flavorful, full of salsa and good stuff. They have a chipotle-style setup BUT they cook the meat fresh so you wait a little longer but the result is 3x better. It's always super fresh , hot overstuffed burritos without that cold sad feeling you get from chipotle. This is my go to burrito spot. Be warned they're abit messy cause there's always so much stuff in the burrito, but that'smy fault cuase I ask for it haha just eat it there. It's really good, salsa it great too. This is not your average taqueria. What sets this place apart from the typical taco/burrito stand is the way the customer decides what goes on the order. You basically build your own meal the way you like it. No more removing items that you dislike. The proteins are cooked to perfection as you order so its freshly made not sitting in a tray waiting to be used. The staff is friendly and patient, while explaining the process to customers. With only a few tables available inside you might have to wait. Many choose to go orders. Ice cold beverages are available along with Agua Fresca in 3 flavors. I got the Surf and Turf burrito. It was all right. It was a little on the wet side and could have used a little better balance of ingredients so that it wasn't so soupy. It got the job done. It was steak, it was shrimp, checked those boxes. I got the hottest hot sauce they had and it could have been hotter. Also, it was over $20 for the burrito after tax and a modest tip. I know things are getting more expensive these days, but that was maybe $3 higher than I was expecting. Parking is a little tough. They have a private lot, but at lunchtime it fills up pretty fast. I might try another one of their burritos that isn't a Surf and Turf just to give them another try. Long Beach has a lot of great burrito options. There was not enough here for the price to make me bookmark this one. read more

Came here on a Saturday around 10am no wait to order. Plenty of seating one tv. Sauces on tables. And canned and bottle drinks. No restroom from what I saw small parking lot. Ordered the small breakfast burrito it was good and eggs made there and then. The small al pastor burrito was good too. Its like a cafeteria style so you choose what sauces veggies and protein you want. Ordered the Jamaica agua fresca it was refreshing not too sweet. This place used to be called The Boss Burritos and has been on my queue for a while. I ordered three breakfast burritos and they had two sizes... small (which is actually the regular tortilla size you typically see) and large (if you are absolutely hungry because "WOA"). When you order a burrito you order the "base" and then you can add what you want from a plethora of options. Kind of like Chipotle but WAY better. The service is fantastic to boot! Needless to say I "inhaled" my burrito! Good grief it was amazing! I'm so mad that I haven't stopped by here earlier... but with the new name change they are expanding their menu! Our boss treated us to lunch and said this place was really good! We ordered food here but took it back to our office to eat. I ordered the 2 Taco special and got chicken tacos, rice, beans and a can soda ($11.25). The flavors of everything were good. Got the Boss Burrito with Asada. Once the protein has finished cooking, you will let them know what you want to accompany your burrito. I chose beans, guacamole, cheese, pico de gallo and cilantro. I enjoyed my burrito. The meat was flavorful. I really like the consistency of the refried beans. I got the mild green and red salsas. Both were equally good. They have 4 tables for dine-in. Writing this review so proud of the owner of this establishment! Came in for some nachos because I was in the area and business is booming! There was a line... but it went smoothly... even a police officer was getting food! Inside it was airy and even though it's small it felt more spacious than before. Nicely painted. Cafeteria style. You can see all the fresh ingredients to choose from right in front of you. Cooks preparing meats cooked to order. I ordered customized chicken nachos and it was hooked up just as any other time I've ordered. Food is great. Vibes are great. Owner/workers are great. Being back here brought me so much joy because this business comes from humble beginnings! I saw where they were and to see them now... true blessing! I had the small (although could have eaten a large) Surf & Turf with alpastor and shrimp, a lil rice, pico, mild salsa, cilantro, cheese and it was delicious! I also tried their habenero sauce on the side which was firey good. Knowing it's a bit far from home. I duped my order and ordered a wet carnitas burrito as well for dinner that evening. Tried El Jefe for the first time through DD. Ordered the small asada burrito and Pastor corn tortilla taco. The burrito was good. Everything tasted fresh and had a decent serving of all the toppings I picked. It was nothing memorable but too bad. The taco was a great size and had a good amount of Pastor. The flavor of the pastor was really good, the quality of the pork though was where it fell flat. It has SO much fat. About half of the pastor was inedible and I had to throw it out. read more

This place is delicious! The location is small and in a busy plaza. They have a pretty unique layout opposed to other Mexican places. They have a line where you choose what goes into your burrito. The staff is really chill, I actually had a good conversation with the cashier. I love the green salsa it has so much flavor and spice. read more

know there's no shortage of good breakfast burritos. I picked this spot because it was on my route. Called my order in and I'm pretty sure I was the first customer of the day. Guy on the phone was friendly, communication was clear. I ordered a chorizo breakfast burrito and asked what comes in it--he said beans and rice. Cool. I asked for no rice. Figured it'd be chorizo, eggs, beans, maybe some salsa. I also added guacamole just to mix it up. Pulled up right as they were wrapping my burrito--perfect timing. Place looked clean, kitchen looked clean, staff was friendly. Took a few bites... flavor was decent, but then I started noticing stuff that threw me off. There was shredded lettuce in it (not a fan at all), then corn, and I think sour cream too. Basically ended up being one of those loaded "everything in it" burritos, which isn't what I asked for. End of the day--was it terrible? No. Was it great? Also no. Just didn't hit what I was looking for. Would I go back? Probably not. read more

I was not excited about the people hanging out in the parking lot, however, the restaurant was very nice and clean. i was greeted by Esteban S, he answered all my questions and offered tasty suggestions. i really did not know what i wanted. I ended up ordering a 2 taco plate and it came with a can of soda. i requested one ground beef and one chicken hardshell tacos to go. My total cost was $12.40. I am very disappointed, I read the reviews and thought I was coming to get good tacos and a deal after I also spoke with someone over the phone and they told me they had $1 taco Tuesday. First time visiting this gem. The customer service was amazing and timely. I ordered a veggie breakfast burrito and the tater tots gave it a nice flavor.
