Hands down, best chile relleno I've ever experienced! Their chips and salsa are amazing as well, but just know after the first serving you have to pay for a refill. It was worth it, though I do love free chips and salsa. The server was so very kind and did her best to tend to all guests after a large party came in. Definitely a tiny little "hole in the wall" type place, but the food is absolutely top notch! Must go!

Located in a great walkable area. It wasn't busy when we stopped by and there was ample seating. A go to if you're in the area and craving Mexican food. Friendly service as well.

El Juárez easily earns 5 stars for it's incredible value and tastiness. Set in downtown McKinney, it's in a fun, walkable area with lots of shops, bakeries and other restaurants. You'd be hard-pressed to find a value quite like El Juárez at any restaurant in 2023. The prices here are like something out of a time warp. I ordered the daily special (It was Wednesday, so an enchilada dinner) and it was $6.50!!! Okay, so you may ask yourself- if it's $6.50, it must be mediocre- but it's really anything but. I found my meal to be something I'd easily expect to pay nearly double for. First, the plate and food were very hot- gotta love when the food is absolutely piping hot! I had the enchilada dinner which consists of rice, beans and two enchiladas. First- the beans were incredible! They were not too greasy or salty. The full flavor of the beans really came through. The rice is great too- fluffy and has a mellow, yet slightly garlicky quality to it. The enchiladas were in a delicious chili sauce that wasn't too heavy. Now the cheese was somewhat oily, but I really enjoyed it! Sometimes a good processed cheese is the ultimate guilty pleasure :-P The service is nice and attentive. I had a really pleasant waitress who was very polite and was always around when I needed her. As for the atmosphere itself- think hole in the wall. It reminds me of so many Tex-Mex restaurants I used to frequent as a kid. Nothing fancy, and even a subtle aroma of old-building hangs in the air, but I'm perfectly fine with it. What El Juárez lacks in atmosphere, it makes up with authenticity. It feels like an undisturbed, hidden gem and I hope it stays like this. It's nice to strip away the pretentiousness of so many other places and just have some real good food.

    Rock

I found a small rock in the beef taco!! Paid 18$ for the #1 combination and a side of chips and guacamole It was a beef taco, beef enchilada, and one chalupa. I ordered it to go and it was all smashed inside the box. Tasted like old ingredients and I couldn't even finish it I was so grossed out. I saw it had 4 stars on google reviews so I decided to give it a try. When I walked in I saw immediate red flags in how dirty and old the inside was. The floors were in very poor condition. I can't imagine what the kitchen looks like. I'm glad I didn't swallow the rock!!!!

We have eaten here a handful of times and it has been very good each time. It has a very "hole in wall" kind of feel to it. The people have been very nice every time we've been here. The food is very authentic and delicious. I usually get the Carne Guisada and it doesn't disappoint. The tortillas are hand made, of course, and they are amazing. It's an older place downtown, but worth the trip. Right now there is a lot of construction on Louisiana St., so be aware. Also, check their hours before you go. They are closed on Mondays.

Food was decent, not bad not great. service was very good. The problem is that they will over charge your card vs what is on the menu. For example, 3 chicken tacos on menu $8.50, they will charge $8.84. #3 is $8.95 on menu, they charge $9.31, 3 burritos $7.95 they charge you $8.27, Pollito plate $4.95 they charge $5.15 etc. The number on receipt goes to an invalid number. When you find right number, they just say manager isn't here and hang up.

    Friday lunch buffet

Quaint Mexican restaurant in downtown McKinney. I came to try their lunch buffet (Fridays only). There was not a wide array of selections, however it did have the basics: rice, refried beans, beef enchiladas, cheese enchiladas, tamales, flautas and also chilaquiles, fried potatoes, and red chile pork stew. You can order crispy beef tacos from the server as well. It's made to order and included in the buffet. Everything tasted good enough, but nothing blew me away, including the chilaquiles which is a dish I adore. They put shredded chicken in theirs. It was good, just not something I would come back for. The rice was slightly salty. The only thing I didn't try were the beans. They do serve complimentary chips and salsa. I cannot recall a time that I didn't like the salsa at any Mexican or Tex Mex restaurant. I did not enjoy theirs at all. At first I couldn't decide if the sour taste was from the limes that I'm assuming were used or if the salsa had just gone bad. Looking at the menu, I would try the carne guisada if I find myself there again, but there's too many other options in the area.

We were visiting from out of town and decided to try this restaurant! So glad that we did! The food was absolutely delicious and the prices were great! My husband ordered the Bistec Ranchero and I got the menudo! The beef was so tender and flavorful and the rice and beans were definitely homemade! The menudo was some of the best I've had in a long time! They have you lots of meat, all the fixings and tortillas! Highly recommend this restaurant!

Friday Lunch at 12:30PM, 2 people. Fairly empty for lunch. We were the only table in sight. Friday lunch special is a buffet (food looked decent, but we didn't order it). The menus were really dirty, but the water is good and the chips and salsa were above average. Queso is good as well, it was very hot when brought out, but easy to eat; a classic Tex Mex cheese dip. The chicken tortilla soup is brothy and soothing on a chilly day, it had avocado, cilantro, shredded chicken and cheese in a deep bowl of clear chicken broth. I added some of the salsa to it to give it some spice and it was good. It came out super hot, which made it hard to eat at first! The atmosphere is kind of dark, and the dining rooms are divided and a little awkward. We had trouble getting a server to serve us or even check on the table, which is the main reason for the three star review. Overall it's affordable and ok quality, but service and cleanliness are lacking - especially for such an empty restaurant.

Bistek Ranchero, beef enchiladas, and Caldo De Res. Plus the three amigos appetizer.

I knew from the second we walked in, based on the list of made-in-house horchatas and agua frescas, that we were going to be in for a good meal. The menu was refreshingly unique compared to your basic street taco style setup or the usual Tex-Mex mashup of inauthentic tacos topped with shredded cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. Our group of 3 adults, plus my 7 year old niece, shared a bowl of guacamole, which was phenomenal and came mixed with sunflower seeds and topped with crumbled cotija, alongside house-made corn tortilla chips. We also split an elote cup, which was great. My wife got a classic horchata, which was deliciously sweet (but not overly so) with a nice slight punch of cinnamon. I went with water but will definitely try an agua fresca next time. I ordered two tacos, both on house-made flour tortillas (I like corn tortillas but prefer flour when made fresh). The Pollo Azteca, with marinated grilled chicken tenderloin, mango pico, and a drizzle of crema, was phenomenal, and had more flavor than most chicken tacos I've had before. The star of my meal, however, was the Al Pastor, with adobo marinated pork tenderloin, diced pineapple, onions, and cilantro, with a slice of lime to squeeze on top. This was hands down one of the best tacos I've ever had in my life. I was floored. I also tried my wife's Carne Asada tacos, which came topped with cilantro and onions, and a slice of lime, on their house made corn tortillas. The steak was incredibly flavorful, and the corn tortillas were tender without being chewy. We shared a side of rice and beans, which was good, but not the star of the show. The rice was your typical Mexican yellow rice, and the beans were more of a soupy whole-beans style, which reminded me of my Colombian mother-in-law's recipe. The staff makes four homemade salsas, ranging from mild to pretty spicy, and I loved all of them with the exception of the mild. My niece got the kids' cheese quesadilla, which was a simple melted Oaxaca cheese between a flour tortilla, served with rice, beans, and a little side of crema. The last thing I will rave about is the service. The staff was incredibly nice from the minute we walked in, pleasant to talk to when delivering our order and asking how everything was tasting, to the moment we bussed our tables and headed for the door. I cannot wait to come back again, and I hope they stay very busy until I'm able to do so, because I want this place to be around for a very long time!
