El Limon in chestnut Hill had a mixed first impression. I ordered one chicken taco to try it out.The chicken taco was delicious, but the tamale was old. I called back and they promised to make it fresh next time. The next day, I ordered the same thing, but purchased three tacos. The tacos were not hot, but they were flavorful. They heated them up in the microwave for me. The shrimp tacos were delicious, and the tamale was also good today. We ordered a side of beans and rice, which was mediocre. Overall, I would give El Chester Hill a four out of five. The staff was not attentive, and we had to ask for hot sauce and napkins a few times. The experience was okay, but it was not exceptional. I'm happy I found this place! Mexican food is my fave. I was solo dining and I felt very welcome. The inside was nice but I'm glad I went out to the patio. It was a nice night to be south side. The tables had umbrellas and could accommodate both large and small groups. The staff were very nice and efficient. The food was very good! It was perfect for me because you could pick how many tacos, tostadas or sopes you wanted. I had a steak tostado, a chicken sopes and a pork sopes. The meat was tender. I placed an order through their website site and was very happy that there was no wait to pick up my order. I ordered the shrimp tacos which came with rice and beans and then a separate order of beef tacos with a small size of rice and beans. The side of rice and beans were truly disappointing. It came in two sizes (side and large). The side was a very small size (reminiscent of a small ramekin that you would use for dipping sauces) in comparison to what I have seen at other Mexican restaurants. My partner was disappointed but he made do with what he was given. We both enjoyed the tacos but perhaps we will give the larger sides a try next time. read more

On a late night hunt for food I stumbled into EI Limon. There are few to little options for anything of substance in the Chestnut Hill after 9pm so I was quite surprised to see this restaurant open.I walked into El Limon with little to no expectations and have nothing but praise for their scrumptious options! ENVIRONMENT It was brought to my attention by one of the cooks that the restaurant has been in operation for less than a week. It shows as the floor was spotless and the tables were neatly arranged at store closing. To be honest, I was a bit trepidatious as I tend to gauge the quality of restaurant's on smell. If you walk through the door, the scents of the food should shake your core. El Limon didn't meet that criteria but this is one of few times my smell test has failed me. FOOD I ordered a pollo burrito(tomatillo) and my LAWD were the portions large. For less than $12 I was gifted a burrito that could feed two and if your appetite is tiny maybe even a few. The sauce was rich and the ingredients were fresh making each bite a delight. I'll most certainly be paying this restaurant just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. If your looking for Mexican in the Chestnut Hill area, this might be your best bet.Happy eating! read more

My wife and I went to El Limon in Chestnut Hill last nite, It was terrible food. We ordered and it came out in about 10 minutes. My wife had chicken tacos and I had chicken enchiladas. Clearly, the food was not made to order but heated up pre-prepared.. maybe even from a package. I am not even sure whether it was chicken in my meal... there were small strips of something resembling chicken with virtually no taste. The tomatillo sauce was OK but nothing great. The food was only lukewarm. The owners should be embarrassed to serve such food. read more

Amazing new branch in the El Limon chain opened in Chestnut Hill yesterday. Beautifully decorated, and happily jammed by lunch hour. Service assiduous but a trifle confused and slow at times, but what the heck--it was their first day. I give them a break. I had three delicious tacos--tinga (marinated chicken), chorizo, and pulled pork. All reasonably priced--three bucks each. Hard to beat that on the Hill. Chock full of tasty ingredients, maybe a little too much diced onion, just the right amount of cilantro, so it wasn't overpowering. A healthy portion of juicy meat. Lime wedges on the side. There's a "loaded" option, with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and sour cream, for .50 extra. There's also a pretty spacious patio in back, which I'll have to try at some point. One tiny little criticism--the music was way too loud. Hard to carry on a conversation. I'd tone it down a bit. Give it a try! read more

Can only speak on the takeout. I didn't eat it the place but the food was tasty and the burritos are big. I would order here again to get my. mexican craving fix. Only complaint is that the options to order are kinda confusing online that I accidentally asked for my beans and rice on the side instead of in the burrito. I also got the non spicy red salsa by ordering online. They fixed it at the restaurant when I went to pick up and told me what to order next time if I do it online. El Limon is a nice spot for dine in or takeout. I placed an order online for pickup. On a scale from 1-5, I'd give the nachos a 3. The tortilla chips could've used a bit of salt and maybe lime because they had no flavor. The chicken was ok but the texture was off to me and they're these shrunken strips. All the other flavors were good. My husband had the steak burrito and the steak was those mini strips as well. He said there wasn't much meat either. I stopped by here today to try it out since I love Mexican food. I dined in and it seemed like 5 mins after I ordered the food was coming out to me. Service was fast! I tried the chorizo, barbacoa, and asada tacos. There were all sooo good! My favorite was the barbacoa and chorizo. The chorizo had a spice too it which I loved! I liked them so much that I ordered more to go! I also tried the chips salsa and guacamole which was delicious as well. I took that to go since I was so full. Was hopeful about El Limón but was unfortunately disappointed. I would not return anytime soon. They lost our order and after an hour and re ordering they left something off our order. Additionally the service was poor. Kind staff, but they definitely need more trained and attentive wait staff to tend to customers and clean off the tables. When the food did arrive, it appeared fresh but lacked flavor and was very bland. I love Mexican food but unfortunately El Limón and specifically this location didn't cut it. Enchiladas contained small amounts of dried-out chicken meat that tasted like reheated taco leftovers from the night before. Thoroughly mediocre. Visiting from out of town, and have had lunch here 2 days in a row. Chicken burritos on Day One were very tasty, and big enough to make two meals.
