The food here was mediocre. We ordered nachos, salad, and shrimp tacos. I asked for jicama salad but they didn't have the jicama. It's substituted with apple. Salad was big, served with grapefruit, and goat cheese. Overall, it was a decent salad and I enjoyed it. Nachos: the cheese was easily detached from the tortilla chips. It was ok, not much going on. Decided to get take-out dinner, both to support a local business through these tough times and address the usual cabin-fever issues during the COVID-19 lockdown. They don't deliver, so I called in the order, paid on the phone, and set the pick-up time (about an hour later). Arriving at the restaurant, they were fairly busy in the kitchen, but it was easy to keep my distance from the one other customer who had come in just before me. I got there just a few minutes after the scheduled pick-up, and the food was ready and still hot when I got home again. We were so impressed with the food! The noche buena salad was as fresh as could be, with a light vinaigrette - very refreshing. The vegetable enchilada was huge, very flavorful, just the Mexican comfort food I was looking for. Nicely spiced, but not too much to be overwhelming the other flavors. The chicken quesadilla (we went with the grilled chicken) was similarly sized, very generous serving with lots of veggies with the chicken. The Taeko chicken enchilada was rated a solid 5-stars by one of my Deputy Yelpers, who actually ate the whole thing. We'll be back! read more

I have always loved it here. The food is consistent and the servers are always nice. I came here recently after a movie and was not disappointed with my meal. It is always quiet here. Something I love. Parking in this area is hard. I suggest parking on a side street or further down Germantown Avenue. A seat by the window to people watch is what I always try to get. On this visit I ordered the chorizo tostadas and beans and rice. The chorizo here is one of my favorites. It has great flavor and a little kick to it. The tostadas come with refrigerated beans, chorizo, shredded lettuce and cojita cheese. There is also green and red salsa on the plate when you get them. Besides my tostadas we got complimentary chips and pico. The chips here are fresh fried and the vegetable were fresh. Mi Puebla is definitely worth trying for the good food and very economical pricing. read more

Delicious Mexican food. The nachos are delicious, if you are vegetarian and even if you're not I highly recommend them with the vegetarian chili. Make sure to ask about specials. I had the gazpacho with avocado that wasn't on the regular menu. The rice is especially delicious. read more

One of my club members decided on Mi Pubela for our book club meeting. Mexican food is not on the top of my list, but I really enjoyed myself. It's a restaurant in a busy shopping area on Germantown Avenue in Mt. Airy. There is only meter parking on the street (which is not easy to find). It's BYOB and my club members brought the wine (thanks !). As soon as I sat down the waiter came and filled my water glass and gave me another glass for my wine. They always give you salsa and tortillas chips for the table. I decided on a Crabmeat Quesadilla. It comes with Mango Salsa, slices of avocado, lettuce and sour cream. The portions are pretty big, so I could only eat half. Everything was good and freshly made. Everybody ordered different things and had no complaints. They gave us a nice table toward the back of the restaurant and never rushed us! It's hard to find restaurants that give separate bills for a group, but they didn't have a problem with it. That's a real bonus! If I'm every in the mood for burritos, tacos or a quesadilla, would differently go back. read more

Best Mexican food in the area. I love this place so much and could live on their grilled veggies alone. The quesadillas and tacos are delicious, and the mango salsa... ***Kisses fingers like a chef***... friggin' divine. The people who own the restaurant are extremely hard workers and are just genuinely nice people. The prices are super reasonable and orders are prepared promptly. I went here due to my friend's recommendation and I have to say this place did not disappoint. The food itself was pretty cheap - $6.50 for all those tacos. I was pretty stuffed. And it didn't hurt that they tasted good. The tacos were made up of hard-boiled eggs and vegetables but the flavours were all distinct and tasted well together. As well, I tried the blueberry cheesecake. It's priced at $4.50 a slice but it was SO GOOD. I highly recommend getting yourself a slice. It was one of the best cheesecakes I ever had. I used to work in the area, and eating lunch here is one of the things I miss the most, so the other night my husband and some friends had dinner there. I grew up with San Antonio Tex Mex, which this is not (I asked when they first opened, and the people are from central Mexico), but I like their style. My favorites are the salmon quesadilla and the swordfish tacos. They also do a nice mango salsa that comes on a lot of the plates. I wish it was closer, because I haven't found any fish tacos yet in my quest to try all the Mexican restaurants out in my area. Service has always been excellent. It is a byob. Our friends brought a bottle of wine, and they brought out glasses without being asked, and opened the wine for us. read more

I've been here a few occasions for lunch while out on the job. If you want a hearty quick Mexican meal that is inexpensive, then you've come to the right place. The complementary chips and salsa are really good. The salsa is mostly chunks of diced vegetables. I've never gone wrong with a side of guacamole ($2/$4) which is a bit on the small side. I usually get the pork tacos which come in a set of 3. A little too much cilantro, but very good for me and I like that they give 2 ramekins of spicy sauces to try out - a green and a red one with both being very good and spicy hot! My guest had the chicken which she liked but did not realize they came in a corn based soft shell which she was not too fond of. Overall, I do like Mi Puebla. I've never seen it too crowded, but I also have never seen it empty so that should tell you something! read more

This place is the real deal. True chefs serving up authentic Mexican food. They have an extensive menu and everything is full of flavor. $7 for three swordfish tacos cannot be beat. Complimentary chips and salsa are average but they are free and a nice snack while you wait for your entree. I have a bone to pick with the reviewer who said that this place would satisfy a craving for Mexican food. There is a certain minimum flavor threshold that food has got to cross in order to qualify for the label, and the meals I've received here do not make the cut. It's not that the cook is being creative; that would be fine, if the results had any punch at all. The *idea* of mango salsa is splendid, and the ingredients which are supposed to be fresh (such as the mangos, tomatoes and avocados) are excellent. It's the flavors which are supposed to be MEXICAN that are absent. I am willing to bet that I could ransack the kitchen of this place and not find a single chili pepper (fresh, powdered, canned, jarred or dried), a clove of garlic, an ounce of cumin, a tomatillo, a lime, or a bunch of cilantro. I would, however, find plenty of carrots, sweet bell peppers and frozen peas. There would probably be some celery in there, too. The result is food that is is not just bland, but bizarrely WRONG. Even lousy Mexican food has a certain comforting, chili-flavored grease quotient that this place is lacking. It's as if they disemboweled a frozen chicken pot pie and mixed it with canned pinto beans and instant rice before dumping it on a tortilla. Then they garnish the plate with mangos, avocado, lettuce, sour cream and voilá! A facsimile of--something! I don't know what! I'm giving it two stars instead of one because it was clean, friendly and the salads (I can't use the word 'salsa') were good. The owner would have to do some fast talking before he could convince me that he's not a Chinese entrepreneur masquerading as someone who has actually been to Mexico. read more

I've lived in the neighborhood for a month and have already been to Mi Puebla three times. All visits = fantastic. I was skeptical at first, coming from both a Mexican family AND California, but was pleasantly surprised. The condiments (read: guac, traditional salsa, and mango salsa) are fresh and delicious, the menu is massive (with an impressive vegetarian selection, in case that interests you), the service is friendly and fast, and the prices are reasonable. Another plus: everything that's offered on the menu is available for take-out (which I have yet to take advantage of). And another: an AMAZING bakery on-site. So where's that fifth star? Well, I don't recommend the nachos. The proportions are all wrong, and I take nachos very seriously. But if they're nacho thing, consider it a 5-star review. (I couldn't help it.) read more

Mi Puebla is a longtime Mexican restaurant in the heart of Mt. Airy's main shopping district. I have never thought of it as spectacular or a must-eat-at place because it isn't. But it's reliable, food is good and well prepared, and it is fairly priced. Service is always friendly but sometimes the kitchen can run a little slow as it cooks most of the food to order. I was with a large party so that was the case. But my meal when it did arrive of Loma Camotero with quesillo, shallots, mango salsa, pinto beans, and salad was very tasty. I wouldn't travel miles to eat here ... but if you're in the neighborhood, I think you will def be pleased with your meal! read more

Possibly the worst Tex-Mex/Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at. There are so many good places in the Philadelphia area to choose from that there is no reason to go here. My husband had the tamales (his test when trying a new Mexican restaurant) and he said they were terrible. The dough was very white and had very little filling. I didn't taste them but the dough looked like a big log of lard. I had the chicken enchiladas which the server said they had to make special (and charge me $3 more!) because I wanted tomatillo sauce. What kind of nonsense is that?! The enchiladas were buried under about 4 inches of sauce, radishes, cabbage, avocado and the sauce was running over the sides. The chicken was tough and stringy. Very poor quality. No rice and beans on the plate but there was rice inside the enchilada. Impossible to eat or enjoy. Restaurants only have one chance to give a good first impression. I would usually give a restaurant a second try but this places failed at the most basic level and was so bad that we will not be back - ever. read more

If you like authentic Mexican food this is the place to go. This is the real deal and the prices are great. I have been coming here for several years now and consider it the best kept secret. There have never been more than three or four table occupied every time I have been here, and I don't know why. The service is great and the food is delicious. I always get the same thing and it has a Mexican name, but I just order by description. It is the fish with shrimp, scallops, and crab meat on top. It comes with a mango salsa, rice, beans, and a cluster of salad. I mix all the sides together and that salsa brings it all to a new level. If you like hot sauce, there are several to choose from. I almost forgot, this place is a BYOB. After dinner I always order this con leche cake. Sorry about the spelling, its means made with milk. I am including a photo but imagine a real strawberry shortcake with peaches. I'm about the real whipped icing. My mouth is watering right now. The interior is decorated with very colorful objects, and this makes the Mexican atmosphere seem even more real. All that is missing is a pinata. I highly recommend this place! read more

Although the dining area of this Mexican establishment was on the smallish size (8 tables for 4, 4 tables for 2), the area was well lit, brightly -- not garishly -- painted and extremely clean. The large, floor to ceiling windows add to a spacious feel. The service was extremely prompt. Chips and a fresh, home-made bowl of Salsa swiftly settled in front of me, followed in minutes by a menu and in a short while a waitress waiting for my order. Prompt, not pushy, and pleasantly professional, from the maitre d' to the salsa-bringer to the waitress, all were soft-spoken, efficient, reserved, but not unfriendly. I ordered the mole pablano platter, which included a leg and a breast cooked thoroughly and very moist. The mole sauce had just the right touch of bitterness underlying a rich, chocolate-like texture. The reddish-brown background of well-cooked beans maintained a memory of firmness; the foundation of rice was moist and clumpy. The overall flavor was fresh and quite tasteful. Not too spicy; not too salty. The portions were fine, but I'd have preferred more beans and maybe a cup more rice. For dessert, I ordered a cup of decaf (sorry, gotta watch the heart condition! ) and a slice of chocolate mousse cake (Hey, I ain't watchin' that much. A guy's gotta live a little!) The cake was made on the premises (in the Pasteleria mentioned in the name) and was irresistable: reality approaching imagination! The whipped cream (ah! to heck with the heart condition!) was airy and not too sweet and I believe was home-made as well. Unfortunately, this heavenly rendition was slightly marred by the tastelessness of the coffee. The pasteleria does double duty as a take-out counter; I'm not sure if the entire menu is available for take-out. The bill for this enjoyable, fresh, authentic course was under $20.00. Ok, we started with their salsa which is a bit more in the style of pico de gallo. That was really good! Chips good. The guacamole came next, and that was good. I ordered a chicken mole dish (described as a piece of white and a piece of dark meat) And that was exactly what showed up. But lifeless, and yes bland. The fajita was descent at best. What surprised me the most was the pinto beans that come with the meal. Seriously guys... it was like they opened a can of beans and and spooned it on the plate. No garlic, no onion, needed salt, no cheese not even a sprinkle of lime.... no ANYTHING? Bland is hardly the word I would use here. INSULT to anyone who has had good or even descent Mexican food may do the trick. I suspect these guys are better for simple tacos and burritos. It was my mistake to try something adventurous there (I love mole at most places) But it is not simple to make for sure. When we were asked how the meal was, I had 2 choices, lie or hope that my honesty would affect a change. So.... in Spanish I explained that it could be MUCH better! There are a lot of good things about Mi Puebla, first and foremost the friendly and attentive service. The people who work/own the place are always nice and welcoming. The atmosphere is comfortable and casual, and it's a BYO. I get takeout more than I dine in here, most often just for the tortilla soup. Damn is their tortilla soup good. Highly recommended. Their vast array of desserts in the front display case must not be missed. I mean it when I say that the best cheesecake I've ever eaten in my life comes from this place. No exaggeration.
