so sad to experience that drastic decline in our neighborhood mexican joint - it used to be a favorite regular on our rotation, and now i don't know if we'll be back at all. happy hour: may as well be removed from their website, as it's pretty much decimated in the restaurant. it's not advertised anywhere, and when we asked what the specials were it was $4 off the super nachos, and a discount on the margaritas. mom and i each got a margarita, and they seriously tasted like liquid from a windshield washer fluid jug. so chemically and terrible. we also got the nachos and they had clearly been sitting in the window a while as the chips were as soggy as flour tortillas. i got the mole enchiladas, were were actually decent, but the avocado mush was dark brown, and after asking if the mole was sweeter or more savory (she said savory) i was disappointed to taste pure chocolate. here's where the annoyance took a nosedive (the frustration with the mis-represented 'sad hour' was just the start.) i wanted to order a beer, something that can't be messed up... but our server was actively avoiding us. i had to flag down another man to get a water refill during dinner, and it appears it wasn't just a fluke. she would make eye contact, see me wave, and turn around. she ignored my 'excuse me, ma'am?'s, and seemed intent on not serving us suddenly. mind you, it was not busy - she had three other tables in her section that had diners, and one had already closed out (jealous!) finally she came over and asked if i'd like another drink - it had literally been 25 minutes since our plates were empty and our glasses were dry. i asked for a box and the check... box was dropped and she scuttled away before i could as for the check. another ten minutes... finally i had to walk up to her at the bar and ask for the check. when we paid, we had been charged an additional $2 for salsa, and charged a $5 fee to use a debit card. the sign on the door stated only credit cards would incur the fee, and specified debit cards would not. lastly the margaritas were not marked down at all as advertised. i was ready to argue all these points, but i didn't want to waste another hour waiting for her, so we left. unfortunately this experience was so awful i don't see any reason to return. read more

It was decorated like the others. I ordered a taco salad with chicken and horchata. Food was good. The waitress was nice and attentive. There's just some nights you just want free chips and salsa! We were having one of those nights and stopped by this spot! Plenty of parking in the lot adjacent to the building. As you walk in, you are greeted by a host and seated in this colorful establishment! Chips, salsa, and some sort of "ranch" is brought to the table complimentarily. Service was very present and attentive throughout our stay! The food was what you would expect from an Americanized Mexican establishment...big portions, diverse menu, decent quality. I discovered this one getting lost when 494 was closed and I needed gas and spot this. I'm an El Loro fiend. My experience was somewhat limited. It was 11 AM and I sat on the patio. I like how they give you a smaller basket of chips for one person. The red sauce was outstanding. Not a bad white sauce either. I ordered 2 hard shell beef tacos. I like the cute taco holder, I've never seen this anywhere else. The problem was with the ground beef. The color seemed off and wasn't as dark as it is at Eagan, which is my favorite. It was so greasy it saturated the taco shell. I managed to get one down but the other fell apart. So I asked for a new shell and transferred it. They also drown the tacos in lettuce. Cheese I don't mind. I only had water. Service was just fine and I left a good tip since I didn't have much. Since I'm not around here it was just a one off, but not a bad discovery. He also never asked us if we wanted dessert which we did so we had to have him add it to the bill. He was not polite at all. I usually love El Loro Bloomington (Food)and their tacos, but my recent visit was very disappointing. When I tried to place an order, server Eluis I believe was dismissive and kept telling me I was "too complicated," even throwing his head back while I was just trying to clarify. I eventually asked him to remove part of my order because he rung up something I didn't order, but he kept repeating the same thing (I'm complicated) until I lost my appetite and decided to leave without the food. On top of that, there was no host at the front, so I had to go to the bar just to get rude customer service. Very upsetting experience. read more

I thought I would check them out as I was at Canterbury and coming back on 169. When I went in there was no one at the hostess stand so I stood there for a few minutes and a waitress came by and said something about the bar which I assumed meant I could sit at the bar even though I let her know later I would prefer a table and there were several open. I decided to go sit at the bar where I ordered a margarita and the deluxe burritos which had a beef and chicken burrito with rice and beans. The margarita was OK, nothing special, while my food came out and it was lukewarm to say the least. The beans and rice were basically tasteless and the burritos a soggy mess. We frequently go to this place the location is very close. The food is good, service is inconsistent. Went there tonight with a group of people. Some of the people got the large margaritas as normal. Once we were done we got the bill and noticed that the price went from $15 to $26! They never mentioned this or was it listed anywhere. They are taking advantage of people. Maybe it's the pandemic, but El Loro hasn't been hitting like it used to. I grew up going to the Eagan El Loro more often then I'd like to admit. This location lacks the same flavor and speed as other locations. While still good, I don't crave to go to get El Loro like I used to, which is a bummer. However, if you go for lunch, it is hard to beat some of the pricing for the amount of food you get. Chips and salsa are always a win in my book, too. For Mexican in MN, this place hangs with all the rest. I'm pulling back one star solely on their (overall) service. IMO, you should never have to flag down a waiter for water refills...that's just service 101. Second, we were surprised that they didn't suggest/offer us the option for a second drink. We didn't ask for our check, we just got it. It just seemed that they wanted to get us moving along (even though there was still 1+ hours until closing). I enjoyed my meal and thought (for MN) the spice was really good....and yes I have had some bland Mexican food in these parts. If you're in the mood for some Mexican comfort food check out El Loro! I live right down the road from here and unfortunately this area doesn't have much restaurant-wise. I've heard some talk from people that this particular location has had trouble keeping a restaurant in business. It's too bad, because I feel this area in particular is in a real need for a few more great hangout spots. Regardless, it's looking like El Loro will be what does the trick for us! For starters, I love how family-friendly this place is. My wife and I bring our 2 year old here with us and every time he throws rice all over the place. The staff is more than happy to stop by multiple times and sweep it up though. One of the waitresses was super friendly and told us all about her 3 kids and how they do the exact same thing, which made us feel very welcomed! The food was excellent as well. I've got the enchilada rojas and my wife got the ala cart tacos, both tasted amazing. It was also happy hour so we got the medium sized margaritas for 6 dollars each. I don't get margarita's too often but I thought these were very sweet and VERY strong! Definitely a one-and-done kinda drink if you plan to drive home. I thought their bar seating was very nice too. Nothing too big or fancy, but I wouldn't mind coming here for a quick one after work sometime and hanging out. If you're in the area don't skip out on this place! The food was really good, and in larger portions than expected. Their salsa was a bit spicy my partner didn't mind much but I was dying a little. They brought it out with some kind of spiced ranch or something? So I took full advantage. My boo got some nachos and I got the burritos Mexicanos. They come out on hot plates and t'was delish. Our service was a bit slow at times, and the restaurant reminded me of a place from my hometown with the authentic Latin music and very vibrant decor. The staff were friendly, and seemed in good spirits. One girl was singing to the Spanish music playing, and most if not all seemed fluent in Spanish. I'd say we spent about $40 total, with a full to go box to bring home. They also had a happy hour, that I look forward to leaning into more next time. We came shortly after 8pm and we were leaving by 9:15pm. We did not feel rushed to finish and leave either. Would have given 5 stars if I felt like our service was a bit more attentive. Also I wish that the to go containers were of a different material, or studied somehow. They're just easy to get smushed with the aluminum bottom/plastic top. To start I am from Albuquerque NM and we have decent Mexican food. I wish it was as the reviews said it was which is why I decided to try it out. When we first walked in it was your average Mexican restaurant and the manager Christopher sat us or at least he said he was the manager) it took a really long time to order and I got my 2 year old son rice and beans and we asked for no cheese on the beans because my son has a dairy allergy but it still came with it and when we sent it back the manager gave us a attitude (a food allergy should be taken very seriously) we got the steak nachos and the mini chimichangas for a appetizer and they weren't bad but the steak nachos were really dry and the steak was breakfast steak. When our entrées came (we ordered a steak fajita platter and 2 Texas fajita platters) on all platters the steak had no flavor and again was breakfast steak but had a grey look to it as if you boiled it. I would've exactly call it "off the grill" as they say. The 2 Texas platters shrimp were raw, when we asked for the manager the guy Christopher said he was the manager but in my opinion he looked extremely young to be manager and when we told him what was wrong he became aggravated yanked the plate from my 14 year old nephew who was still eating. He didn't have a problem with his food because he didn't care, he was just hungry. He took all the food back and said he'll take it off our tab (we weren't looking for free food, just for something else) so we got disgusted and just said whatever we don't need to eat here if the service is gonna be like this. He took a extremely long time to give us the bill but before he did that he was pacing up and down on a phone call. Tried the take out and it was a good satisfying meal. Mexican Steak is a good choice and location is convenient, situated right off of 169.

Ordered the pollo tropical, when my plate was brought out it was missing the refried beans and tomato, bell peppers and bacon that was suppose to go over the chicken. When I brought it to the waiter he mentioned these items did not come with the meal, I asked him to bring me a menu, and I showed him what all was suppose to come with the meal. We recently moved here from California and task #1 was find great Mexican food. Authentic Mexican. From the outside of the building it does not look the best, but when you walk in it is a whole different place. The atmosphere is lively and comforting. The service is was excellent and very fast. The margaritas are made very well and my kids had the virgin daiquiris which they enjoyed. They took our order and within 15 -20 minutes the food was there. Portions are very big and very good. The prices are very reasonable. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a hood Mexican restaurant. read more
