Chips were robust, not super thin. Very good. Had the beef taco salad, which is my normal go-to for Mexican food. VERY small compared to other taco salads I've had. Probably the smallest I've ever had - probably half the size as the taco salad I had last weekend. Losing a couple points for that, but good presentation. Definitely like have used more cheese. Flavor was good but nothing super special. I'll try this place again but will not after that if I have these small portions next time. read more

We arrived at opening time for a Saturday lunch. We received a friendly greeting and were seated quickly. Our chips and salsa arrived and our drink orders were taken quickly, then our food orders. We both ordered chimichangas: 1 chicken, 1 steak. I've been a fan of El Maguey for years, but this was our first time at this location. We enjoyed our meals immensly and each had plenty to take home for another meal later. Our friendly server, even prepared to-go drinks for us, which was very kind. We had a nice chat with her before leaving. I know it helps that it wasn't super busy when we were there, and I'm not always a chatty person, but it was nice to have a little chit chat with her since she was such a good server (Mary). read more

This new restaurant was off to a good start during my dine-in lunch visit. I enjoyed the professional, polite, attentive staff, the short wait times, the clean but somewhat spartan atmosphere, the tasty food, the good portions, and the good prices. My #4 lunch burrito ($7.25) was served just five minutes after I ordered at the table, which gave me time to work on the complimentary chips and salsa. The burrito was packed full of shredded white chicken with no rice filler (nice) and topped with my choice of sauces, while the good portions of Spanish rice and refried beans were nice and flavorful. I also noticed three hot sauces at the table to spice things up. I liked the spacious, divided dining areas with upbeat Mexican background music (not too loud), several TVs (off), and a full bar. Our Queso Was Forgotten And Our Entrees Came Out. I Reminded The Server About The Queso And This Was Quickly And Kindly Addressed. It Was Hard To Catch The Server To Order Anything Else But Once My Husband Was Finally To Catch Him, He Ordered Another Marg To Remedy The Flight Fiasco And Was Happy. Went here because I was craving enchiladas and we were in the area. The reviews were decent so I had my reservations, but everything was delicious! The place was clean and I liked the decor. The margaritas were very good and they had a ton of flavors. I ordered the enchiladas verdes and the sauce was amazing! Definitely had a kick to it. The chicken was perfect and juicy. Alright pals, this place was a huge let down. $12 for this fish taco plate...I've never had minced fish tacos, & I will always ask about this in the future at other restaurants. These were by far the worst, driest fish tacos I've ever eaten. I thought they were shredded chicken tacos when they were brought to the table. They tasted cold and bland. I asked for limes to add a little flavor and they gave me the wimpiest limes I've seen in a hot minute. Guys, nothing about this plate was good. I was so excited to try this place, but when me and my friend both got bland, "naked" tacos & left half our meals on our plates...you know it's not great. The chips were pretty thick. They were decent when they came out warm & the salsa wasn't terrible. (Our orders took 45 min to get to us which was why the chips and salsa were demolished.) 1st time in and nothing to complain about. Taco Tuesday was choice of 3 tacos for $5.99. I had two ground beef and one chicken. The chicken had good flavor but the ground beef was maybe some of the most flavorful GB tacos I've had in KC Metro. And the cheese (a lot) they put on the tacos is delicious. Free chips and salsa was a pleasant surprise because there was actually some heat in their salsa with great flavor. Chips a little on the thick side which just made me use more salsa. I've been going to El Maguey for years and I am loving the newest one. With a clean spacious atmosphere and great food it is definitely a new favorite Mexican spot. They have thin chips and both mild salsa and a superb hot salsa. Their extensive menu includes burritos, tacos, tamales, fajitas and speciality dishes. My favorite menu items are enchilada rancheras and hard shell pork tacos. Their appetizers are also second to none including guacamole and cheese dip. read more

This restaurant is our family go to when we need to celebrate. The food is excellent, the service is quick, and there is usually not a lot of problem getting seating. Our family has some dietary issues, and they have been excellent working with us to accommodate our families issues. This is one of Kansas City's best. read more

El Maguey knows how to get a party started with its margarita towers or flights. The 100oz towers can cover a party of two or 10. Choose your flavor and let the drinks flow!! Under $40 isn't a bad price considering this could last you for the entire meal. I ordered tacos, but there were ok. I highly recommend the drinks. I'll need to try them again for food to get a better opinion on the menu. This restaurant is the location in Martin City. Not sure if the other locations serve the towers. read more

My husband and I tried this Mexican restaurant at the edge of Martin City, and had a very nice meal. I had the Quesadilla Jalisco, and was very impressed with the grilled shrimp; they were cooked and flavored to perfection. My husband had the #1 combination, which was a delicious plate with enchilada and burrito accompanied by rice and beans. My house margarita was tasty, and we both enjoyed the chips and salsa; the chips were fresh, crisp, and tasted homemade, and the salsa was really flavorful. Our server was Rey and he was delightful; very friendly and efficient and visited our table frequently to ensure we had everything we needed. Ordered all chicken taquitos and got 2 beef and 2 chicken instead along with a couple chicken enchiladas. This was once one of my favorite restaurants but nothing stays the same! I took my nephew there to celebrate his birthday and it started off bad. I had to find someone to seat us and no one came to welcome us into the restaurant. The waiter said they didn't serve virgin drinks but after I asked to see a manager he said they could make them. The quality of the food was horrible. The beans were watery and the rice was bland. We were so disappointed with the food that we asked for the bill. We were charged double and triple for items and even items we didn't order. The waiter wanted to argue that he brought out dishes when he didn't. It took three tries to get the bill correct. Just came in with my whole family for my wife's birthday. Nobody even talked to us for 10 mins as we crowded the front doorway. Then we finally get seated, but then they leave and never come back. I've been in a few times and the food is OK, not great but I've definitely had worse. However, I would say to skip the margarita tower or flight. They're a cute gimmick but unless your intention is to load up on sugar or just get a fun photo, you're going to be disappointed.
