    Shrimp taco
    DJuan L.

I drove past Tequileros on my way to pick up food. Looked like an authentic Mexican restaurant so I decided to stop on my way back through. Some of the authentic Mexican restaurants that I've visited don't offer seafood, so I was excited to see that they had both fish and shrimp tacos on the menu. I ordered a fish taco, shrimp taco and cheese dip. After getting home, I realized that the shrimp were undercooked. I felt that I'd get sick if I ate the entire shrimp taco, so I only took a bite out of it. The fish taco was better. The fish didn't have much flavor, but the condiments inside the taco were pretty good. The cheese dip was flavorless and runny even after letting it sit. I think this was my 1st time ever throwing away cheese dip, so you know it had to have been bad If the shrimp hadn't been undercooked, I think the shrimp tacos would've been a homerun because the sauce that they used in the taco was delicious. They probably have other dishes that are good, but for my personal experience I was a bit disappointed.

Priced right and good salsa! This family friendly hole in the wall, is an Independence treasure. Our food was served fast and hot. Authentic entrées and courteous service has earned our business whenever we are in the area.

I ordered a steak fajita. It came w a side of beans, rice, pico, sour cream and guacamole. I wish I got it before I ate, but it was so good.

Great little hole in the wall. We came to KC for a volleyball tournament. We live in Vegas and have great Mexican food, so after our games we were wanting something other than bbq. This little gem is in independence. Worth the drive! I got the steak Fajitas and it came w a side of rice, beans, pico, sour cream, guacamole. My husband and daughter got the steak burrito w side of rice beans and sour cream. They loved it. Orders came out in a timely manner & nice and hot! It seems like it's run by a family. Great little family place. When we come back to KC again we'll definitely come back!

Very impressed does not do it justice. From the welcoming greeting as we walked in to the chips and salsa (not salted - perfect for those of us with high blood pressure!) - my asada chimichanga was perfect. Good quality steak, cooked perfectly. My spouse had the steak platter and the steak again was top quality. We ended with flan. Perfect for my taste. Not overly sweet. Now the extras that nobody else notices: a disabled couple came in and was seated at a table near the front of the restaurant. So many tones we eat out and see a hostess put disabled people in the back of a restaurant. When they left, the manager opened the emergency exit so they could have a closer exit to the parking lot. I appreciate people caring for elderly and disabled people.

My family and I entered and weren't greeted, despite there only being one other table seated. We ended up walking across the dining room ourselves before eventually being acknowledged. Not the strongest start. Once inside, the atmosphere had its ups and downs. The space itself is beautiful, but some details--like visible weeds and black tablecloths--took away from the overall polish. That said, things started to turn around once we got settled. I had the chance to meet the chef, who was incredibly personable and clearly passionate about his craft. We kicked things off with appetizers, and this is where the kitchen really began to shine. The lobster rangoons and tempura shrimp were both excellent--crispy, flavorful, and well-executed. For entrées, my daughter and sister-in-law both ordered the chef's burger and really enjoyed it. My niece had the steak frites and absolutely loved it. My wife ordered the lemon brick chicken with gnocchi and olive tapenade. After tasting it, I felt the gnocchi could have benefited from a quick sauté in clarified butter, finished with a squeeze of lemon and fresh herbs to bring out the depth the dish promised. I went with the Wagyu burger. The cook on it was spot-on, but the execution fell short. It came topped with three large slabs of bacon hanging well over the sides, making it difficult to eat without taking it apart. After adjusting it myself, I noticed it was under-seasoned--something as simple as a finishing salt would have elevated the richness of the Wagyu significantly. Overall, Ophelia's has a lot of potential. The food shows promise, the chef clearly knows his craft, and the space is visually appealing. With a few adjustments in both service and execution, this could easily become a top-tier spot. I'll be back--and I'd still recommend giving it a try. 4 out of 5 forks.

Honestly I was happy this wasn't an upscale restaurant because I would have been embarrassed by my lack of etiquette as there's just no way to "properly" eat this meal. Bringing Jonathan Justus's culinary talent back to the Northland feels like a win for the entire area--and from a selfish standpoint, having a raw bar this close to home is a real bonus. The space itself has been beautifully reimagined from its former Italian roots. The bar and chef's table anchor the first floor, while the dining room upstairs feels intimate and inviting. Thoughtful holiday décor and warm music gave the evening a comfortable, almost at-home feel--upscale without being stuffy. We had an early 5:30 p.m. Wednesday reservation. A few guests were already seated when we arrived, and by the time we left, every table was full--always a good sign for a restaurant just three months in. We started with the Pecan Pear Salad, followed by the Steamed Mussels, and finished with the Salmon. The salad was a standout--my wife especially loved the pears, which added a perfect balance of sweetness and texture. The mussels arrived in a tangy parmesan broth with vegetables and were plentiful--15 mussels in the bowl. A couple of small details would have elevated the experience: small forks for the mussels, a separate bowl for empty shells, and perhaps more baguettes. The baguette itself was heavily grilled, which slightly overpowered the broth. I had seen a video of the Scottish Salmon before our visit, beautifully plated, so presentation-wise it didn't quite match that expectation last night. That said, the portion was generous, and the salmon itself was tender, juicy, and well-prepared, which ultimately matters most. Dessert is where Parker Hollow truly shines. We ordered the Sherry and Thyme Poached Pear and the Pecan Coconut Tart, and both were exceptional. The pear dessert, in particular, was a work of art--visually stunning and perfectly balanced in flavor. Service throughout the evening was friendly and attentive. Given that all food has to be carried upstairs, the pacing was solid overall. The only notable delay was with our cocktails, which took longer than expected to arrive. All in all, Parker Hollow feels like a confident addition to the Parkville dining scene--polished, welcoming, and clearly finding its rhythm. We're looking forward to returning, especially to explore more of the menu and the raw bar.
