This place ripped me off. I paid honestly and they ripped me off dishonestly. Paid for a transmission rebuild. After they did whatever they did, it slammed into gear each time it shifted. The only thing I will say that was good about my experience with this place is that they looked over my car and made sure it got towed out of their shop. Also, that I will never deal with them again. My amazing mechanic recommended this place to me, so I'll let that slide. I didnt trust anything they did or did not do and I definitely didn't trust the ridiculous options they gave me. Owner Rafael comes off as if he knows what he's doing and bamboozles you into trusting him that he will get the job done and that no one knows cars like he does. Promised me a $2000 job, took my money but only completed a $400 job and said he'd call me in 3 weeks to complete the rest. I trusted him. I called back a couple days later and he quickly hung up on me and said he'd call back. I'm still waiting for his call and wonder if I'll ever get the $1600 he basically stole from me. Some can say it's my fault but when you shake a mans hand and he gives you his word you believe it. Worse part is he drives your car like if it's his and has the nerve to tell you but returns it looking like shit. You'd have to own a 64 impala to understand. read more

Brought my Camaro to this place and was very pleased with the service. Juan was very sociable and transparent about the cost of the repair. He diagnosed three problems with my transmission, of which I was skeptical about whether they actually needed to be replaced, but upon returning to the shop to pick up my car, he presented me the decrepit looking pieces he replaced and explained how each was effecting my transmission. While my car was in the shop, Juan called me to get confirmation that I wanted the replacement of the parts, at which time my voice-mail was full. Instead of waiting to place the order and making me wait longer to get my vehicle back, he ordered the parts. When I called him back the next day, he made me aware of his action and said he would cancel the order if I didn't want it. The foward thinking was much appreciated. By the end of my transaction with El Maistro, the final cost was within range of initial estimate (the estimate was free I believe but I can't remeber). They also presented me with a one year warranty on their work! awsome! My car has been running better than I ever remember since I got it back a week ago. I've been going to this shop for approximately 10 years. Each time I have transmission issues those guys always fix the problem quickly, and don't sting your wallet. The last visit there, I needed service. I tried to have my transmission serviced earlier, but was turned away. I was told that I didn't have enough miles to justify service. They could have done the job, and charged me, but they didn't. What kind of business turns away work? I'll tell you, an honest one! They drained the oil in the pan, and changed the filter. I asked why they didn't complexly drain the transmission. I was told it wasn't needed. Again they could have charged for it. They found a small leak, where the drive line connects. They removed the drive line, and installed a new gasket. The dealer wanted to charge over $1000.00. After all was said and done, I got away with w whole loss less. It's a real pleasure dealing with such a group of great folks. I won't trust anyone but them. read more

Also they really liked the fact that I'm a young guy doing all the work on my car myself... gave me a $300 discount for taking the transmission out myself... the main guy Juan is a super nice guy who always gives me tips when I need them. I wanted to post a very honest and straight forward review, this is not a slam campaign on El Maistro but just MY experience with the business. I had previously taken my truck to el maistro for a new pressure plate, clutch and anything else that was needed. The truck had about 60k on it and it was beginning to get sloppy and give out. I got a new clutch, bearing, pressure plate and the whole nine yards. After receiving the truck back, the clutch never felt the same. Within a week, I had to have the truck towed back to the shop after the clutch & pedal locked up on me, all the way to the floor. Got the truck back after that, said and an adjustment was made, they fixed the issue, no big deal... and I was on my way. I had been driving around for a couple more weeks when I began to again have issues with shifting/engaging. Took it back once more but was assured everything was fine, and that another small adjustment was made. However, the pedal was still loose, engagement was way too low, felt very sloppy, but I was assured it was correct... So, for the past couple years, I have been driving around with it, against my gut and better judgment that something was not right. I would have issues with shifting occasionally, bad engagement, loose clutch pedal, all of the issues that were wrong since day one after el maistro. My slave finally started to give out on me, leaked for a few days, then just blew out. Took it to another trustworthy transmission shop. I was quickly informed that the pressure plate that was in it was incorrect. This entire time, with all of these issues could have been avoided, not to mention the truck went back to El Maistro twice. Also probably would not be paying to have it completely re-done at this point had it been done right the first time ($1100)... When I contacted them, El Maistro stated it was impossible to have the wrong part/s in there, that they wouldn't fit. They were VERY quick to dismiss the fact that they could have done anything wrong and placed the blame back on me, and I clearly didnt put it in myself. I still had the service receipts and everything from Maistro, but they were unwilling to even help, take a look at it, or come close to attempting to make it right. I took the parts, once I had it repaired, that had been put in my truck by Maistro to two different Trans people, same response about the parts being incorrect and the last trans job being below expectations, but yet no accountability from maistro, but hey, it wasn't a very recent issue so I pretty much expected them not to do much... Apparently the bad pressure plate lead to extra/unnecessary stress on the slave, which blew that, which took the clutch down quite quickly, so everything needed to be replaced, which should have been avoided and saved me money and a good amount of inconvenience. I know I took it in to Maistro because they said they were giving me a good deal, and yeah, I got a little bit of time out of it and saved a couple dollars at the time, but it sucked the entire time, took it back twice, and wouldnt be spending all the money now to fix it this soon had it been done right the first, second, or third time they had their hands in it, even with telling them how the clutch wasnt right/what was wrong with it during that time. Clearly not the 'good deal' that I thought I was getting, probably got used/crappy/wrong parts thrown in there, not what they lead me to believe I was getting.... didn't have a big bill, so didn't get the extra care/service i suppose. the whole "get what you pay for"... but this was the service I got.
