We found this restaurant on yelp and went this morning for breakfast. The breakfast special was 3 eggs to order, a hefty serving of thick cut bacon or sausage, toast AND Coffee for $2.99 (amazing). We also tried a couple of the Cuban specialties as sides and they were delicious! The servers were also very nice and prompt. I would strongly recommend this restaurant! read more

This place, at best, serves cafeteria food. We ordered a Cuban sandwich. What we got was literally a coldcut ham and cheese sandwich with a line of mustard and a couple of pickles. The best thing about it was the bread. When we called to complain they said that if we wanted pernil also known as lechon, we were supposed to ask for it! Really? Um, last I checked, roast pork is an ingredient! Advice...save your money. read more

I really wanted to love this restaurant. Yes, the appeal is a lot about the price but some of the dishes were great, some so-so. I didn't particularly notice anything filthy about the place as other reviewers have commented although I didn't scrutinize the blinds. Breakfast for me was eggs and two link sausages with Cuban bread and fresh oj - delicious. Friend had eggs, a bunch of bacon (a little hickory flavor I think), bread and Cuban coffee. She now declares she is hooked on Cuban coffee. Had a young gentleman serve us and he was attentive, there were no delays in service. We got empanadas - ham and cheese, chicken, and beef to have later for lunch. Total ticket before tip was in $11 range - yes, for all of it. Those empanadas - the chicken is seasoned perfectly although it did include a little piece of bone. Diners beware. But the flavor is outstanding so weed your way through. The ham and cheese was delish - simple, tasty, and oozing with queso blanco. The beef - I have to admit I was disappointed. Given that I've had Cuban picadillo before and it includes green olives/currants - this one was lacking. Only spices and beef - this brought the rating down for me. So before we left FL, decided to stop in one more time. Friend got the chicken empanadas. I hate to admit that I was surprised by the lack of presentation. A little sour cream drizzle and some chopped red/yellow/green bell pepper would really liven up the plate. On the other hand the waitress did offer a garlic dipping concoction. Friend enjoyed it, I did not (and I love garlic). The empanadas are only 1.25 - you'd be stuff if you ate two chicken ones, maybe you could handle 3 ham and cheese (smile). Bottom line - a great inexpensive meal but remember not to chow down hard on the chicken ones or you could get a bone in the roof of your mouth! Not a big deal, pick it out and set it aside. I had the Cuban pork roast. I make this myself. The meat was tender and in ample quantity (translate - I couldn't eat all of this!) But nothing special. I make mine using oj and a lot of onions; this one seemed not to have much flavor outside of few onions but it was cooked wonderfully tender. Two sides - I chose a salad (hey, greens - what can I say, but the tomatoes were deliciously sweet; no dressings were offered and I used the oil and vinegar on the table. The black beans were delicious and I used them and the liquid to pour over the pork. great flavor and really perked up the pork. All this for 5.99 We tried their tres leches. It was served a little differently than I've had before, in a plastic bowl and drenched in the sweetened milks. It was a little too much sweetened milk for me and the cake was swimming in it. Too much milk, not enough cake. Flavorful - yes. total bill at last visit was around $14-15. Service at this meal was a little different - in an almost empty restaurant, did not have a welcoming feel although the waitress did warm up before we left. I'd go again if in this area, to sample the Cuban sandwich but more than likely to pick up the chicken or ham and cheese empanadas and some black beans. read more

This is my first real Cuban restaurant that I've eaten at. We went there for breakfast. The prices, cheap, cheap, cheap. $15 for a family of four to eat there. I think the mistake I made was ordering the Breakfast special. It wasn't bad, there just wasn't much they could do with eggs and sausage. The side of Cuban bread was really good as was the cuban coffee. My wife got the Cuban sandwich and it was also delicious. I will give it another try, but next time I will order something different or perhaps go there for lunch to see if I can dive into some real Cuban food. read more

We found this place on yelp while visiting the grandparents and after a string of Little Cesars Pizza and McDonalds we were hurting for some good food. El Mambo hit the spot. My husband and I each got one of the lunch specials which were advertised at $7.99. I had the shredded beef and he had the roasted pork ribs. Both had great flavor and were very tender. For sides we had white rice, red beans, sweet plantains and a side salad. The rice was as to be expected, the salad was a choke on my part so skip that, the beans were good and the plantains were perfect a little crispy from frying. The service was just fine, we didn't realize we were supposed to pay up front until we had been sitting 10 minutes waiting for our check. When we went to pay our meals rang up for $5.99 which was unexpected but appreciated. read more

The staff barely speaks English and is VERY rude. The first time I brushed it off as a coincidence. After the second time I told myself id never go back. Examples include "excuse me ma'am. I ordered my food without onions. I'm allergic" she then gives me a dirty look and picks them out of the food in front of me! read more

This small diner is the best, most authentic food north of Havana. The portions are plentiful and the flavors amazing. Get the pan fried plantains for an appetizer. The chicken with onions is incredible and the chicken noodle soup, served as a side, is flavorful and filling. Great place and very reasonable. read more

Food is 3 stars but the low pricing and generous portions bring the total review up to 4. I go there for lunch when business brings me to the cape. Probably my favorite lunch location. The wait staff is a bit lackadaisical but the food is well worth it. Lunch for 2 for under $10. Ya can't go wrong. read more

I went to El Mambo looking for some Cuban breakfast, I should have known I wasn't going to find it here. The cafe con leche I ordered was made with american coffee instead of espresso. They should have just called it coffee con leche. The scrambled eggs were overcooked & I don't even know what that "bacon" was, certainly it wasn't bacon. My orange juice was even watered down. Anyone who says this place is good has obviously never had a decent cuban breakfast before. Save your money & don't try looking for Cuban food in Cape Coral, you won't find it. Instead, go to Kate's Kafe and have some amazing all-American homemade breakfast. You'll thank me later. read more

We tried Mambos on Del Prado as new residents of Cape Coral on Jan 2. Our meat patties were cold in the middle, the french fries were barely warm, and the food was not good Cuban to begin with. The service was slow and the servers were occupied with their co-workers. Next, our bill was incorrect so we had to wait in the front to have it corrected. THEN due to all of the confusion, I left my billfold on the counter...which I was glad to get back the next day. I was NOT glad to find my PayPal account cleaned out of monies needed to pay our bills this month. We will NEVER patronize this place again. The charges were all to foreign entities non recognizable. Although it may be resolved, no integrity somewhere there, and no offer to resolve the cold food issue. read more

Ordered a week prior, meat pastries, guava pastries and coconut pastries for my work office.....showed up at 7:30am on Nov 13, 2015 and they lost my order. We took friends here who were dying for a REAL Cuban sandwich- too bad they don't have one! Their Cuban is a lunch meat ham Panini. I had the Chicken Empanada's and could not eat them- they were FULL of chicken bones- absolutely horrid. My husband and our friend's wife had breakfast and said they were great, but how do you mess up pancakes and eggs? Guess they are alright for breakfast (and REALLY CHEAP), but I won't be back! Too many other really good Cuban restaurants around. I was also VERY disappointed in the Cubano Coffee- and I LOVE Cuban coffee and authentic food! I guess you get what you pay for! read more

I found this Cuban gem while vacationing in nearby Sanibel. I normally think any place with all their windows covered has some illegal gambling going on but that wasn't the case here. Upon entering you're greeted in Spanish by some friendly waitresses. I had the Chicken in Sauce (the Wednesday night special) which was so delicious and tender. It reminded me of Arroz con Pollo in Spain. The black beans and rice were par for the course. The fried plantains were sweet and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. We also tried the Palomilla steak which was tasty but a little hard to chew. End your meal with a flan and a Cuban coffee. You'll be happy with the check at the end. This place would be even better if they gave out some warm Cuban bread before the meal. read more

I love the diner style layout and ambiance. The food we ordered was delicious. We ordered a "Roja Vieja" and a "Picadillo" dish - both were excellent and yummy; and we ordered a side of Moros. The portions are generous and the prices are great! I also loved the "Batido De Guanabana" (Guanabana Shake). If I am ever back in Fort Myers, I will stop here again. read more

Price is what keeps this place high in the ratings. Atmosphere was that of an old diner, which is fine with me. Service was very good and helpful. We had heard a lot of good things about this restaurant so was excited about trying it out. I was disappointed - the restaurant is not very clean and the food was so-so. Our waiter spoke very broken English so it was difficult to communicate with him. He was very kind but didn't offer very good service. We will not be returning. read more
