This was by far the worse food I've ever had. I was so excited to try it, I walked in to place my order, paid $34.00 plus $7 tip. I ordered carne asada with a shredded beef enchilada, rice and beans. What we got was a flour tortilla with some dry shredded beef with tons of melted cheese. No sauce, no salsa, there was maybe two tablespoons of very dried out rice, beans that probably came out of a can. I also ordered a chimichanga...again same dried out shredded beef with no taste at all, please trust me....this was the worse food I've ever had, we couldn't even give it to our dogs. I love this place. The mini carne asada tacos are my go to, but the nachos are pretty darn good, as well . This is my favorite local place to eat, I checked out the all you can eat Sunday brunch today, and I'm looking forward to trying that one weekend. The employees are beyond friendly and welcoming. I judge a restaurant by how much unedible gristle is in the Carne asada. I'm halfway through my first Carne asada burrito and so far have run into 6 pieces of gristle that I could not eat. For my last meal in NM, I wanted something Christmas style but not fancy. This restaurant was definitely not fancy and could use some work on the outside eating area cleaning out the junk and making it pretty. However, the food was delicious, and the young woman manning the counter was ever so sweet. I ordered the cheese enchiladas plate with added chicken Christmas style, whole beans instead of refritos, no rice. It was heavy on chicken, light on cheese, but the sauces were outstanding. The red sauce was made of Chiles only, no tomato. The green sauce was pretty darned fiery. Loved them both! The bean pot liquor was very salty but the beans were delicious. My peaches ordered the combination plate with your choice of meat in a soft taco (he had carnitas), a cheese enchilada with red sauce, and a Chile relleno with green sauce. Peaches gave me a tiny bite of the relleno. The poblano was a wee bit spicy. The batter maintained its crunchy exterior. It was great! We have been supporting all our local businesses for years. So Yelpers everywhere are support local businesses everywhere. So El Mariachi was on our radar to try. Today was the day!! I have been craving menudo for a few weeks but wasn't sure if I would find some as delicious as my moms. Well I had a little doubt but I was willing to try. It wasn't quite my moms but it was darn yummy. My craving has been met! Other family members ordered a breakfast burrito that was great. Maybe not what New Mexican are accustomed to real potatoes diced not hash browns, eggs and cheese all cooked together. Now we know New Mexico is known for some good tortillas and these were some very authentic ones. I'm not positive but I am fairly sure the tortillas were made on site. They reminded me of making tortillas with my mom and abuelita growing up. Finally also was the carne asada which were cooked to perfection. The corn tortillas stayed perfectly warm on our way home. Cedar Crest holds a gem! El mariachi is a fantastic little spot to stop for lunch or dinner! Eating indoors or outdoors, the smells of the food only make your stomach more hungry than it was before arriving. Three in our party and we all ordered different items. The food was quick to come out despite having a lot of customers. Everything on our table looked absolutely amazing! We found this little gem on google maps and so glad we went a few minutes and miles out of our way and stopped. First off Ozzie was fabulous with asking all the right questions regarding our order, offered to bring our order out to us as we were sitting outside on the patio since we were traveling with our pups. Food was fantastic! The tacos are like I've never had, shell was fried on the stove! Husband tried the El Mariachi plate and said it was really good! Ozzie was so polite and friendly, made us feel at home. If in the area stop in and enjoy, you won't regret it! Oh and plenty of patio seating, covered and out of the weather with some Mountain Views. There are few choices in the area and this one has potential, but they are not quite there. The inside could use some sprucing up. On this visit, the only fountain drink they has was Hi-C. The wait was 40 minutes because they have so many phone orders and a very small kitchen. I got the Taco Plate. The tacos were SPECTACULAR! The refried beans were average. The rice was inedible. Either it was old or under cooked, but there were so many crunch hard parts I just couldn't eat it. My husband got the enchilada. They were too spicy to be enjoyable. We like good chili, but when that's all you taste, it's not enjoyable. I understand it's difficult and they are understaffed just like many of the businesses these days, so I'm giving 3 stars for the tacos... because I would defiantly eat those again. The newest restaurant to the East Mountains. The food was delicious and chili's were flavorful. The red chili tasted authentic and homemade. The green chili was just the right of spice. I also had the carne burrito with avocado. Chip and a salsa bar made There were several vegetarian options that I would love to try. This place is a true gem in Cedar Crest for Mexican food. We all ordered burritos for our first try of this location and all of us liked it enough to commit to coming back. They also have vegan options available as well. It was jam packed during lunchtime with all the locals and construction crews eating here. I have loved the food until today. My wife and I bought the beef fajitas plate. I have eaten fajitas in many different places in Texas, Arizona, California, and New Mexico for the last 20 years. These are absolutely the *worst* fajitas I have ever had. There were 75% grilled bell peppers, 5% grilled tomatoes, 1 tiny sliver of onion, a couple of slices of jalapeño and 20% meat. The meat was tough and burnt. My advice if you buy the fajitas here: just dump them in the trash. It is better to leave hungry, than to suffer through this horrible meal. They're friendly, I'll give 'em that...but I've tried them three times and that's enough. First try they couldn't get the order right, green chile chicken burrito was beef (re-order was chicken but with red). Second try was take out, family size assorted tacos, got home and found they were burnt badly (had to throw 1/3 of them out. I tried this place for the first time 2 days ago. I got the mushroom tacos. They were really good! The beans & rice on the side were also 10/10. It was so good I had to go another time. This time around I got a Carne Asada burrito & my partner got a Frito Pie Burrito (whaaaaa?!). Both were really delicious. We got a side of chips & guac too (which was also 10/10).
