This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area, and there are a number of them. Always very friendly with quick service. They have great relaxed ambience with fun murals relaxed atmosphere. Started with blended lime margaritas which are very good; and strong. Had some complimentary taco chips and salsa, which were good, but chips could use a little more salt. I ordered the Texas style taco salad with steak and shrimp. It was excellent, with lots of steak and about 4 medium shrimp. Stumbled onto this place on a Sunday night. Service was excellent. Attentive, prompt. The chips and salsa made it to the table almost before I did. Expansive menu with many specialties. I don't find tostados very often but I ordered the steak tostados and they were unique, generous and very good. Thin strips of steak mixed with fresh chopped lettuce, red onion and cubed tomato served on a tortilla and topped with sour cream. My only complaint was the noise. Like so many restaurants this place seems to have been designed and decorated with no concern for acoustics. One loud table down the line can interfere with your peace and quiet. read more

Unusual location (strip mall off of frontage road). Food was surprisingly good! Generous portions and full of flavor. Margaritas were 1/2 price (Thursday lunch) so that was added bonus. Service was good and decor felt like you were in Mexico. read more

Burritos don't put cheese on the outside. I just can't comprehend these supposedly Mexican restaurants in Wisconsin. They are Amercanized, bland and overpriced. I knew I wasn't going to get LA quality Mexican food when I relocated here, but this is disgraceful. This place would be in Chapter 11 in a matter of months if it was located in California, Texas or any state in the Southwest, but I guess people in the Midwest will eat anything. Very sad read more

Yeah, I know I'm not in Los Angeles, or Texas, but Watertown, Wi. will have to do for my Mexican fix for now. Upon pulling out my phone & scanning for Mexican restaurants on Yelp, lucky I found a place close by my hotel called - El Mariachi Mexican Restaurant. El Mariachi Mexican Restaurant has 3 locations in Wisconsin........one in Watertown, a 2nd location in Lake Mills, and the 3rd location in Ft. Atkinson. Must be a pretty popular Mexican restaurant....... As I walked into the restaurant with my co-workers, I noticed the daily specials. For Monday, it was - "any kids under 12, eat for free". So when we walked in, I told the hostess - "Eh, I twelve years old!" Buwahahahahah! Yeah, I know I'm an old fart, and there is no way I was twelve, but at least it was worth a shot! Lol! The hostess just laughed at me........ :) Anyways, upon being seated, the waitress comes & brings us a large basket of complimentary chips & salsa. I must say, the chips were huge, light, & crispy. The salsa was good too! Upon ordering my dinner, I decided on eating something of the lighter fare since last night I ate like a squealing pig! For my meal tonight, I ordered my the Zefe Shrimp - which was basically Grilled shrimp cooked with tomatoes, onions and cilantro. It was served with some rice, and a salad. Not bad at all..........not too heavy, yet it was very flavorful! Can't be eating too many heavy meats everyday, & I also skipped out on dessert, as yesterday was total dessert overload! I have been to El marachi many times but they are just awful anymore. The portions have shrunk, prices up 40%, wait staff is awful and adds 18% gratuity to your bill which is supposed to be done for party over 6 and we had 4 and then expects you to tip more. They top off their bs by charging a huge premium for using a debit card. I think once you have raised your price 40% you need to let the premium charge go. They have pissed me off the last 3 times with more and more bs but it now ends after this last series of stunts. I hope you go out of business with this kind of bs. read more

Went in person about a week ago. Ordered a vegetarian tostada, waiter came back and asked what I'd like on it, as I would be charged for the meat regardless of whether or not I received it. I told him I wasn't picky and beans/rice/avocado, just surprise me. Well the tostado he brought out was great, what I did not expect was to be charged $9 for it. The menu stated $3.75. I was charged $4.87 plus $3.99 for the half avocado put on it. Beware when ordering items, the food is good, but to be nickel and dimed, when I didn't specifically order items is uncalled for, because of the language barrier at checkout, I paid the amount and left it at that. I'm not sure I'll be back again. Almost $9 for a tostada is a little out of line. If I was going to be up charged, I should've been informed. They have really stepped up their game. I am happy they stopped smothering everything in that white cheese. It's good yes, but it doesn't need to be in everything and ruin the presentation either. Just eh. The food was good, served hot and extremely fast but the service left a lot to be desired. We weren't really sure who our waiter was because there were two that stopped by our table. We wanted to order dessert but were never asked and then the check was dropped off. The waiter looked mad when we told him we would like dessert. The salsa was very good and extremely smooth. The chips were warm and delicious. I had a fajita burrito with cheese sauce. It was tasty and the portion was huge. My dining partner had a chimichanga of which she devoured because it was so good.
