It has really gone down hill recently so it means either they've changed owners or new cooks. Now there are no Mexican restaurants left in Hollister that are decent. From time to time the other waitress is not our usual. We treat her the same as the other 2, with respect. The owner is the cook. If you know, you know. I was looking for a good Mexican restaurant with Molcajetes on the menu! I found this place and decided to check it out. I'm glad we were able to make it. I ordered a molcajete "mar y tierrra," and an order of quesabirrias. They were both exquisite! The service was great. Our chips and salsa were delivered promptly. Never been to Hollister hit the first restaurant we saw and it was awesome The fajitas were excellent all the meats were marinated to perfection. The chips were great....thin and not greasy. The Guacamole was spot on. They have allot of fish on the menu and must be what they are known for. The restaurant was very clean and the staff was gloved and masked for Covid protection. Not very professional (he couldn't even tell me what the heck was in our food and apologize)...but whatever...I wrote my review because that's what people are supposed to do on here when you eat or order food at a restaurant. I'm not here to complain, I'm just sharing my experience. If my food wasn't good quality, pricey or even worse if I find stuff in my food that's not supposed to be there...I will let people know so that they know to think twice about eating there. Taco Tuesdays are the bomb. Get a Modelo Preparada. Staff is friendly and the food is yummy.

So disappointed. Verde enchiladas lacked sauce, cheese and while the chicken was moist, it so bland. No salt, pepper, onions. Added my own sour cream and avocado to provide some flavor. Sad face. Husband got an Al Pastor burrito and the meat is so overly sauced you can't taste anything else. Kid got a cheese quesadilla and the cheese is not all the way melted. Will not be trying this place again. The lady who rang me up was super nice, helpful so I tipped for our take out. Seemed busy with take out orders but only one couple dining. I don't yelp very often, but I felt it was necessary to share my recent experience here. My boyfriend and I went here last night to grab a bite to eat and a couple drinks. They have so many amazing pictures of their signature drinks online, in the restaurant, and outside when you walk in so we were excited to try them out! First round we both ordered a regular margarita on the rocks, both coming out having ZERO tequila in them. All we tasted was generic margarita mix. I asked for an additional shot of tequila to add to mine, and my boyfriend ordered us another round of different cocktails so we could compare, but unfortunately it was the same thing...the second round tasted like smoothies / milkshakes. Flavor was good, just not what we were looking for when wanting a cocktail. Server brought out my "shot" in a salsa container, said they don't serve shots, which made sense. I assume they only have a beer and wine license, not too sure why they advertise margaritas or other cocktails. Food was marginal as well. Chips were your run of the mill, multi colored tortilla chips, salsa was actually really good (nice robust flavor, not spicy, by flavorful). Our food came our really quick which was nice! We ordered a chicken enchilada plate with rice and beans as well as quesabirria tacos. Enchiladas were doused in very common (unauthentic) sauce and the chicken was in large shredded chunks inside. Didn't have much flavor aside from the sauce. Tacos were pretty tasty along with their dipping sauce, by far the best part of the meal. I do not want to discount the service from one of the waitresses however. She was lovely and super friendly. The place has a lot of potential, just not very well executed and definitely overpriced. We paid ~$115 for the meal, majority of that being the non-alcoholic cocktails. Can't say we will be coming back. read more

Came here today because my honey wanted menudo. I got the shrimp enchiladas since I had never had shrimp enchiladas before. The sauce was good but I was not impressed by what was inside. The shrimp were cocktail shrimps chopped up, it had no flavor whatsoever. My beans had black specks and tasted burnt. The rice was good, though. The salsa was bland, added salt but didn't do much since it had no spice whatsoever. I like my mouth to burn a bit, my nose to run, to sweat a little when I eat salsa. The menudo was just ok. It had 2 big bones and so much fat, my boyfriend ended up taking half the contents out which was very disappointing. Social distancing? The food I ate was good (combination fajitas). The only reason why I'm giving el michoacano 2 stars is because of the potatoes that is mixed with the fajitas. The ratio of protein is way off, about 50/50 potato to protein (cubed potatoes and frenchs). This dish should not be called fajitas since it's more like loaded fries. I ordered the Fajitas since usually it's a healthier option but not in this restaurant. Next time I will ask for no potatoes on this dish. Potatoes don't belong in Fajitas! My daughter orders via Door Dash regularly. There has never been a problem with the order. Her favorite is the huevos rancheros. Portion sizes are generous enough for her to share with me and I've enjoyed quite a few different menu items including bistec ranchero, camarones al mojo de ajo and combination fajitas. This place is truly a hidden gem in Hollister. All the servers are super friendly. They get you seated once you arrive and bring out fresh chips and salsa. They will bring more even before you have to ask. Food is delicious and serving sizes are generous. We normally each just get a super burrito a la carte because its a lot of food. We always have left overs which is delicious the next day still! They have a variety of sauces on the table so you don't have to ask. For authentic Mexican seafood dishes this is the best Mexican restaurant to go to Hollister. Seafood is their specialty and their portions are generous. The rice and beans are full of flavor. The chili verde is quite tasty and a bit spicy. Lunch specials are $8.99 and include rice, beans, salad and guacamole.
