This is a great taqueria for tacos, quesadillas, and burritos. I've always enjoyed their food, but this visit was a bit hit or miss. I decided to try the soups and nachos. Unfortunately, the pozole was mostly broth and bones, with very little meat and only about a spoonful of hominy. On the other hand, the Birria de Reyes and the nachos were great and definitely recommend. The service was okay. The staff were helpful when I asked for extra lemons and other items, but there wasn't much interaction beyond that. At one point, my son spilled his drink. While the staff noticed, they continued with their work, which is understandable, but it would have been nice if someone had offered assistance or at least pointed us to where we could find napkins. We ended up tracking them down ourselves and cleaning the table and floor. The ambiance is a little different. During the evening, one side of the restaurant is brightly lit while the other side is dark and you don't really know where to go. Overall, I'd still recommend this spot for their tacos, quesadillas, burritos, and especially the Birria de Reyes, but I would probably skip the pozole. read more

Wow did not expect for the food to be this good! I was surprised. The inside is a little outdated but it's spacious, clean and the enchiladas are great. It reminds me of the enchiladas Mexicanas. They put mozzarella cheese and chicken on the inside. Topped with lettuce, avocado and queso fresco. To me if the food is good then it deserves to be recognized. I made a stop, but their menu didn't have prices, so I had to ask the clerk. They told me that their burritos, quesadillas and tortas dishes were all $10. On the positive side, they have a parking lot. However, the restaurant is not well-maintained and feels a bit scary. There were eight cameras on the ceiling within a 8x8 feet area, although I couldn't tell if they were still in use or not. I didn't bother counting what other cameras were on the wall, some looked busted. The place needs remodeling because I almost threw my trash into a vase that looked like a trash can. I couldn't find a real trash can inside the restaurant, so I took my trash out to my car :( When I asked for a plastic knife, they didn't have one and could only offer me a fork to cut my burrito. The seating area was dirty, with many cracked tiles and some smeared with fruit (probably from strawberries). It was an uncomfortable and scary experience, so I didn't stay too long. read more

Good little taco joint, a small bite is all we needed for what was a quick rest stop so we ordered two street tacos and two Cokes. Service was very kind, the manager translated our order to the sweet woman behind the counter. The homemade tomatillo salsa was delicious. Working at a voting center here in Gilroy. I have never eaten here but having a short time for lunch this was the place to go. WOW!! Was it delicious! I only had two tacos but were they delicious!!! One Tripas and one cabeza taco and a Jamaica drink. I loved the grilled onions and chili. They also provided a little bean tostada to collect all the meat that dropped from the tacos to the plate what a great touch! I will come here again. The lady who took my order was very kind and when I asked if two tacos was good enough for lunch said Yes they are medium not small and she was right! Good authentic Mexican food!! Was downtown Gilroy looking for a place to eat, when out of the corner of my eyes I caught the tacos del Guero sign. After flipping a U-ee we pulled into a fairly sizable parking lot that has plenty of parking just for their business. There is some nice signage on the building. As I walked inside I noticed the left side where all the seating is was blacked out. they are definitely a mom and pop "ask the locals" kind of place. . I asked the lady if she had a menu and she said no however she spent the time to let me know what kind of meats and food they served. The ladies behind the counter were super nice and even smiled when I took pictures. Wifey needs to use the rest room, they were nice enough to let her use it, even With this crazy "Ch-eye-na" virus going on. They have condiments underneath a steel closed lid container that you can access yourself. I ordered a super burrito with L Pastore and wifey ordered three street tacos one with Carnitas and two with steak. They will give you salsa red, green or both on the side, The green was super flavorful with very little heat, the red was more for us spicy loving people but I felt the flavor was not quite as developed as the green. When I tore open my burrito the first thing I noticed was the shell had been toasted nicely and actually had a really good flavor the burrito had beans, rice, juicy help Pastor meet, with whole cut avocado slices inside. Adding the green salsa added a whole "nother" dimension to the flavor. The price point is actually really good at this place at $9:50 per person including drinks. First and last time there. The food was terrible. I ordered tacos and there was a lot of fat on the meat. We also ordered some nachos and the chips were dripping with oil which didn't make them eatable. You also have to pay for your food before getting a table so it made jt difficult to get our money back. I would not recommend this place and there are other more authentic Mexican food in the area. Most important thing I learned here was how incredible a freshly made taco can taste. The taco itself was absolutely unreal, never mind the filling. We got a few extra to go since they were so good. The quesadilla was stunning--loads of cheese and loads of meat. I tried the pastor but all the standard options are available! Of particular note, to me at least, was the salsas. The green salsa was really well made and fresh, but there was also this kind of smoky tamarind-y (I think? I can't put my finger on the flavour!) one that was out of this world. Decor is lovely and bright, even if the space is a tad tired I guess? I don't care about that, tbh because the food was fantastic. Also came so quickly! Almost instantly. Below zero stars- rating their food truck service at Spina Farms. Waited more than an hour for our food. After being pretty patient for 40 minutes, we tried to advocate for our order, and they seemed like they were listening, but the food never came out. Everyone around us even noticed we were waiting the longest and felt sorry. 20 minutes later we are the last still waiting in the line. Everyone else had been served their orders even though their numbers were also messed up. The topper, they ran out of one part of our order! So we waited for basically Nothing!!! So we asked for our freaking money back. And they had the audacity to still try to charge us for the part of the order they did serve. An hour late after forgetting the order. AND all the rides closed so we hd zero time to even walk around the farm or go on any ride. Most ridiculous experience I've ever had with a food truck and customer service. Good house-made tortillas, but as others say, the meat curiously lacks in flavor. It doesn't taste of anything, no salt, cumin, anything. I can't handle spice at all but I do like flavor. The chicken also had a fair portion of gristle. I got a taco plate which came with only meat at $12.50. They have a salsa bar, where you can add pico de gallo and various salsas. My husband got a carne asada burrito and my kid got a chicken quesadilla. They were not overly enthused and only my husband finished his food. The oddest thing is that there are no prices on the menu. Do they charge different prices for locals vs tourists? Don't know. Our meal for street tacos, a carne asada burrito, and a chicken quesadilla was about $28 (which included 2 bottles of generic water). It is spendy for what you get. The restaurant isn't air conditioned and there's a banquet-like room playing the running of the bulls on a TV. They also had a taco stand in their parking lot but you can go inside. read more

I had better expectations after reading some reviews. I can't say this is the best taco I've ever had. I ordered three tacos (2 pastor/1tripas), came with a frijoles tostada and that was really good. Pastor and tripas definitely needed some seasoning. They felt pretty plain. I felt I was being rush to eat them since tortillas was getting soggy from all the grease the meat had to the point that by second taco the tortilla ripped. Red sauce was really good and spicy , but you don't need to add too many in order to give your tacos flavor. I believe tacos are meant to stay on small tortillas like back home. Food was very basic really but the issues was the prices kinda expensive for what you get. A burrito is around 12 dollars, you can make your own burrito at home that's wayyyy bigger than the ones you get here. Place looks wore down and needing of help and rebuilding. Stopped by here on the way from San Jose to LA around 230 am, their hours are open until 3 which are so convenient. I'm so used to tiny San Jose tacos that are two tortillas and not a whole lot of meat but this place was the TOTAL OPPOSITE. Their tacos are huge!!!! We bought 8 tacos (six tripas and two al pastor) and getting full off eating 2 LOL!! The tripas meat was so crispy and fresh that I was so surprised, definitely the best place I've had tripas tacos in awhile. This taco place & cart is SO GOOD, super glad he's finally got a set location available to grab a taco almost any time now. Used is the cart/taco guy that used to be down across from longhouse before but, only at night and standing/to-go room only, so glad they've been able to settle in downtown gilroy. The made-to-order fresh HANDMADE TORTILLAS and the SALSA BAR (I think there's like 5 types) they've got make ALL their tacos just right for your taste/mode (dare I say his orange can hold a candle to some of the famous SJ spots). But my favs here are Tacos De Cabeza with the Green Avo Sauce. They also have a bunch of other stuff in the new indoor restaurant such as breakfast, soups, etc, but again, I tend to favor the quick impromptu orden de tacos from the cart just out front. Also have used Jose multiple times for catering events, a b'day party, church functions, and a fundraiser (which i think help up our game and fundraising, ha ha).
