This place used to be one of my favorite places to grab a margarita and an order of tacos and sit on their patio, but I don't know what happened. The customer service is next to none. The quality of the meat used for their their carne asada tacos has gone down. I hate when I bite into a steak taco and you are met with fat and a rubbery texture, they did not have this problem before. The last 2 times I've been here, it's been the same story. I wonder if they were just having off days. I will be back and hopefully I will get the old molcajete food and will be able to update my review to a 5 star read more

FYI I was at el Molcajete on Wednesday June 19th for lunch. I checked my bank statement the next morning and they was an additional $28.00 charge!! Beware!! I called them 3 times and NO RESPONSE! I had to contact my bank and file a complaint to get my $!! Last time going there!!!!! read more

We've been her a lot. I'm not a huge Mexican fan but the food here is exceptionally fresh. I don't love the location on third street but it is convenient. But I keep coming back for the food. On Fridays they have carnitas that is delicious. The soupa Jalisco is also fantastic. It is amazing. read more

The food was good, service however was horrible. Never saw our waitress after the initial drinks and food order. I ordered a second drink from waiter that brought out our food. 10 minutes later still no drink. When I asked about the manager said he accidentally brought it to a different table in another room. He went to the table, took it back and tried to give the Margherita to me. Sorry, I'm drinking drinking an alcoholic drink that was on another table out of me view. My wife and I came here on a Thursday evening and sat on the balcony overlooking third street. Great patio and we figured it would be crowded so we thought we got lucky when they said they had a patio table available. To our surprise the entire place was empty with only two other tables seated with guests. The service was terrible, they forgot our appetizer and the wait staff, all of them, seemed to be in a hurry to get us out of there. Almost like they had something better to do. I ordered a corona and it came out with no lime, when i asked for a lime the girl gave us a look like we were inconveniencing her. The food was was mediocre at best and we will never go back to this place and would advise people to stay away. We do not go out for dinner often and it's really discouraging to have an experience like this when we do. We were debating going to Sergio's cantina on state st and rt 31 for half priced margaritas and good consistent food, but decided to try el molcajete. Trust us, go to Sergio's, way better atmosphere, service and food. read more

So one of the nit picky reasons I am chopping off a star in comparison to the other location on State Street is the Tacos Duros is not offered. This is a unique deep fried taco which is hard to find at most Mexican restaurants. The people at the other location claim they will make it for you, but I tried asking for it and they had no clue what I was talking about. Also the lunch menu is not offered. Even though I think the portions are a little big for lunch you can certainly take something home and at least you will get filled up. Please don't let my nit pickiness deter you from experiencing this stellar establishment. In my review of the other location I describe the available menu items in more detail which are available here. Unlike the other location a beautiful outside patio is available for dining el fresco. Despite the fact that an elevator is available the second floor location will be a little challenging for someone who has mobility issues. I think it is manageable though for most people. read more

Used to be one of my favorite places. Went there with two friends and we were seated at 6:50 after waiting at the front for 5 minutes because they had no greeter there despite not being overly busy for that time. We ordered our drinks within 10 minutes but did not get them until 7:50 even after asking 3 times despite them being only fountain drinks. We only ordered two meals but got our food at 8:05. Multiple tables around us were seated, got their drinks, ate, payed, and left, before we even got our drinks. All of these tables ordered the same amount or more meals than us. When we asked if we could speak to a manager and explained the situation he was extremely condescending and said "what do you want me to do fire your waitress?" We were confused and said no and he said "well if she's that bad." He was extremely condescending and then said well then what do you want me to do. We said idk at least a discount on the food or something. He told us to pick our discount and our waitress would pay for it. He did not apologize once, talked down to us the whole time, and was extremely condescending. I will not be coming back. read more

Horrible. Found some salsa in my water. Ordered a molcajete and the meat was dry and burnt. It all stuck right to the plate. On top of that all ... there was HAIR in my rice. The restaurant had no sympathy for anything. Service want that great either. Never again. read more

Amazing! This place has such great Mexican food. The tacos are just delicious, especially the pescadillos and the Carne Asada. The drunken beans and corn sides are literally some of the best I've ever had. Also, it's a pretty chill place, quite with a great outdoor patio. read more

Went there for the tortas that I heard so much about. I liked the food at the smaller shop on main street and thought I would try the 3rd street restaurant. First of all the menu online was not updated and the those prices were two to three dollars less than the published menu inside. When I told the hostess she just said sorry. Which is fine, but it shows a total lack of communication between the staff and the management. I was going to stay for a drink while I was waiting for my food, the prices were just too outrageous for alcohol. So I went down the street to grab a beer and wait for my takeout. When I picked it up I knew I was in for trouble because for three tortas my bag was way too light . Especially for the money. I am Hispanic and have travelled enough to recognize that there are plenty of smaller Mom and Pop Mexican places that are authentic and you get much for your money. read more

started going here back in 2010 when they opened and service was great. Ramon one of the brothers was so nice and always remembered my order each and every time. new owners have taken over but still the same chef. food is amazing but service is subpar. came here with 2 friends for margaritas and chips. after 2 rounds of margaritas and 2 rounds of chips they stop serving the chips and claimed they "ran out" when they were still serving them to everyone else. around 9:30 we asked for dinner menus and our server said the kitchen was closed but the restaurant doesn't close until 10:00??? read more

We go here either to dine in or take out our food several times a month. My favorite menu item is the Tacos de Hongos (mushroom tacos); they have lots of specialty tacos that are out of the ordinary from what you would find in a typical Mexican restaurant in the suburbs. The guacamole is my favorite of any restaurant anywhere. The servers are very nice, as well as the manager, and they are accommodating to our small children. It is best to call ahead on a Friday or Saturday as there will often be a wait. Our favorite time to go is in the summer when the outdoor patio is open; that really increases the seating capacity and it is nice to sit out there and look down at 3rd street. read more
