The ribeye was fantastic, I wish it was little bigger portion considering it is a ribeye. The flavor was great though. The beans or just like anyone's that are decent. The rice was real mushy. Like mashed potatoes mush. Sad. The queso is okay but nothing to really rave about. We got it with brisket and I was just expecting better flavor. I will try the chef's favorite next time. Ana our server was so adorable and made our day! We came for lunch and were only going to have 1 adult beverage each, but the spicy margarita was so dang tasty, we had 2, well my Hubby had 2, my 1st drink was the smokey Paloma. Where the Paloma was tasty, the spicy margarita was more better. We had the trio of enchiladas and the shrimp & crab enchiladas, pure deliciousness. Highly recommend! From start to finish, my family and I had a wonderful experience. The service was great, as were the food and the ambiance (although the décor seems more like a steakhouse than a Mexican restaurant). When we arrived, we were seated within five minutes--not too bad. I would recommend a layout change to the front of the restaurant, though. As it currently is, you walk directly into the open concept. Our waiter--I wish I remembered his name--was wonderful! He was knowledgeable about the menu, prompt, and kind. My husband ordered a ribeye (not pictured), and we both admitted it was the best we've had (outside of grilling at home). So tender, so flavorful, so delicious! We also ordered a frozen margarita, which was strong but good. Kid's rice, an El Combo Clásico, and complimentary chips--all good. I would come back for the ribeye alone! We definitely enjoyed our time and are considering making it a date night next time. read more

Foodie Alert! I got a chance to dine at the new cozy, upscale Mexican restaurant located in Sinder Plaza. They are known for their craft-flaming Margarita and their tender prime fajitas! Let me say those fajitas were soooo good!!! They had so much flavor, very juicy! I had enough to take home for leftovers, and it was just as good the next day!! I also enjoyed the Queso Fundido! Although I felt that the prices at El Molino were high, I felt that it did deliver an excellent Tex-Mex meal with great service in a fun atmosphere. We started off with their frozen margaritas which were excellent (some of my favorite in Dallas). This was paired with queso and salsa. The chips had a great thickness/crispiness and both the salsa and queso were delicious. We then split beef and chicken fajitas. The normal portion is designed for one person and does not include rice and beans which felts a bit surprising given the price point. However, I will say that the fajitas, particularly the beef ones, were fantastic. The beef melted in your mouth and paired great with the tortillas and other toppings. First time at El Molino. Small dining area and small bar but fantastic atmosphere. Really well designed. Because it is small it can get very loud and unfortunately, we were sitting next to a couple of tables of women who would not stop talking the entire time. I'm not sure how they had time to take a bite of food. Oh well Started with a drink at the bar while we waited for our table. Tried the Paloma, but they make theirs with Mezcal, which gives it a really smoky flavor. While many must like that, my wife wasn't a fan. They were happy to switch her out and instead of Mezcal used Lalo tequila. Very nice and professional. Service was above fantastic by Lacross. She did a great job and was a big part of why the evening was enjoyable. Wasn't a big fan of their complementary chips, but did enjoy their salsa. Began with guacamole appetizer. Very good and unique. Delicious guacamole with a little bit of corn added to it and three small cheese quesadillas. For our entrée, we both had the El Combo Classico. It comes with a cheese, enchilada, chicken, enchilada, and brisket enchilada. It is accompanied with rice, beans, and some Mexican corn. Way too much food for one person, and we easily could've shared the dish. The refried beans have kind of a unique flavor and I really didn't care for them although my wife said they were fine for her. Crab and shrimp Place is a vibe and really neat, I like the limited menu. The drinks were decent, my recommendations above but completely honest- all are overpriced. The espresso martini was so bad, sent back and the devils margarita is essentially wine and super sweet. Our second round of drinks took 17 minutes to bring back to us from ordering. I would get the crab and shrimp again as it was flavorful and good portion. Tacos al carbon I wouldn't get again. The bbq sauce is nothing special and you should get to pick your two sauces. The tacos need cheese in them, I got the brisket and it was dry. I wish steak was an option but it's only chicken or brisket. I love Vandelay but I think this concept is still getting figured out. The ambiance is really neat, 2 bathrooms only and a line for them all night. It is very loud though and better for small groups. A great new Mexican restaurant in Snider Plaza. It is upscale, and the decor is very unique and slightly swanky. The menu is relatively small but contains both traditional Mexican favorites as well as fajitas and a few other grilled items. They also have a great drink menu and their flaming margarita. We went for an early dinner and were served quickly. Our waiter was very attentive throughout. The chips and salsa were excellent and the margarita was also very good. My wife got the filet mignon fajitas and I got the El Combo Classico which is one of each of their three enchilada variations - chicken, beef brisket, and cheese. The food was delicious and served fairly quickly. The fajitas were very tender and had a great char and flavor. All three enchiladas were tasty, but the cheese enchilada was my favorite. Came here with my family for my husbands graduations. We had reservations and were seated almost immediately. Parking can be hard to find even with the parking lot so arrive early so you have time to secure parking. This is a sister property to Las Palmas and you can definitely tell. There's a dark moody feel to the decor and lighting. Definitely a good place for a date night . It's very small on the inside also. The food was very good and reasonably priced . I had the brisket enchiladas. Next time I would get light sauce as I would barely taste the brisket through all of the sauce in the enchiladas. The ceviche was delicious and fresh I just wish the chop was smaller. There were cheese quesadillas alongside the guacamole which were both delicious . I got a Mexican martini which was only half full . There were also pieces of ice in it. Definitely not worth the price. Next time I would get a different drink. Park Cities Tex-Mex at Park Cities prices. As you enter El Molino you get sort of a steakhouse vibe: dark colors, beautiful light fixtures, an ornate and well stocked bar, comfy chairs, and an entire wall filled with Spanish art. I thought their House Rocks margarita was fine but a bit sweet, so I'd steer you to get their Mexican Martini instead; it's the better marg. Their chips are amazing, freshly cooked and with just the right seasoning. Salsa and guac were very good. Queso was fine. Plate presentation is remarkable. The enchiladas are worth sharing a photo, and other plates too. Meats in the enchiladas and fajitas were excellent, cooked just right and served with delicious sauces. The fish was also very good. Mine was slathered with Vera Cruz sauce. Regrettably, the smartly-dressed staff needs some coaching. Drinks were served quickly and refreshed when they were gone, but not the water glasses. Dirty utensils were taken after we were done with our appetizers, but not replaced by the time we got our entrees. All four dinners were not served at the same time, leaving all of us to wait for the staff to completely finish that step. Additionally, we felt rushed by our server, who acted more like an order taker. Steakhouse looks, diner service. This isn't the restaurant's fault but parking in Snider Plaza remains a shit show. The roads are new and the fountains are exquisite, but the nearest open parking spot at 6pm was two blocks from the restaurant, and I felt lucky to snag one that close. There's a thing down here we sometimes call Park Cities pricing. Expect your plumber, electrician, and I suppose even your Tex-Mex venue to charge about double what it would cost for similar services - and meals - down the street. 'Nuff said about El Molino's prices? (Not yet...) El Molino makes solid attempts to offer a top-of-the-line dining experience. So, if you're the person who pays Park Cities prices to get a new garbage disposal installed, then you should be quite pleased with the Tex-Mex experience at El Molino. Another day, another Vandelay. I had been anticipating El Molino ever since I heard that it was replacing Douglas (a restaurant that I feel like I was a little harsh on when I reviewed it a few years ago), as I had really come around on them and actually was sad to hear of their sudden departure. (Redeem my gift cards, somebody!) But as I have loved with a capital L every other Vandelay Industries establishment that I had eaten at, I knew that at the very least we would get another "bang, count it!" However, I think they slightly missed the mark on this one. El Molino has excellent decor, and while I do recognize Douglas in the layout and the bar, I do think some of the stuffed animals on the walls are a bit much and don't add any flair of exotic mystique to the environment. The food is adequate, but the brisket and beef are doing all of the heavy lifting. If it weren't for the marinated tender meats getting all the attention, there wouldn't be much else to mention in the rest of the dishes I tasted. The beans that come with the rice and beans are unbearably salty too. The real heroes of El Molino are the cocktails; the Flaming Frozen Margarita is pretty spectacular in all of its combustible glory. The Devil's Margarita is lethal, so hold back from going overboard on these because they come on slow, but they hit pretty strong. In the future I think I'm just going to come here for a cocktail when there's a lull at the SMU tailgating. Also, the music is crazy loud for no apparent reason in the bathrooms, which is kind of hilarious in a baffling sort of way. Overall, it's all pretty underwhelming coming from Vandelay, but they can't all be winners. read more

El Molino was really good overall, but there were a few things worth noting. We ended up waiting about 35 minutes past our reservation time before being seated, which wasn't ideal. That said, the restaurant itself is gorgeous. It has an Old World, New-York-style vibe that actually reminds me a bit of Javier's -- small, intimate, and atmospheric in all the right ways. They're clearly still working through some new-restaurant kinks, both with pacing and with the level of attention from the staff. Thankfully, we were with friends and in no rush, so the slower experience didn't ruin anything, but it definitely wasn't the level of service we've come to expect from other Vandelay concepts. The food, for the most part, was very good. The cheese panella was great, the queso was solid, the chips were delicious, and the brisket nachos were a standout. The fajitas were tasty but the portions were surprisingly small -- at forty dollars, I could barely put together one steak fajita and one shrimp fajita. On the flip side, the frozen margarita was one of the best I've had. Vandelay loves their frozen drinks, and they absolutely nailed it here. That's what I'll be ordering again next time. Despite the wait and the service hiccups, I'm looking forward to going back to try a few more dishes and hopefully enjoy a more streamlined experience. read more

I came (with a reservation) from work in my scrubs to meet my mother for dinner, and my attire seemed to need management approval. Needless to say I told my coworkers of the experience and it was a unanimous "count us out". The food was not good by any stretch, definitely below par. Service at the table was satisfactory. Yikes -- with all the great Mexican food in Dallas, this place really misses the mark. From the margaritas (sour -- something was off) to the queso and fajitas, nothing quite hit. The guacamole served with the fajitas was maybe a tablespoon at most, and rice and beans are an extra charge with an entree/fajitas. Like who does that in Texas. Love that it is walkable from UP, but would rather have marginal food at banditos then drink one of those gross margs again. Everything tasted premixed.
