Baked Banhs have some of the best canelés in town, and sadly, they are closing on June 27th! We are so sad we didn't get to come visit until quite recently. :( We parked in the nearby parking lot on 4th street. Usually parking here isn't too bad if you're staying for less than an hour and easy to walk over to the dessert shop. Baked Banhs is located in the 4th street food market, one of the first shops you'll see if you're coming from the parking lot. Note the hours before you come (for instance, they're closed on Sundays and Mondays). And note that they seem to usually sell out of certain items by the days end. We've tried a number of different items here now including four of their canelés and their basque cheesecake. The cheesecake was solid. But we really loved their canelés. They are soft/moist on the inside with a nice crunch. And the different flavors really come through. Our favorite is the black sesame - not only is there black sesame peppered on the top but also in the center with a nice black sesame cream. It's so good and delicious. Four canelés cost $16 and thought they were well worth the price. Again, it's so sad to hear that Baked Banhs is closing soon so if you're a fan of canelés or other desserts, recommended to come sooner than later to try this out! We really hope they reopen again elsewhere or do a lot of pop-ups soon. read more

Perhaps one of my new fave dessert shops. It's a bummer it's so far from me, but I'm glad to have discovered it. I got the ube tiramisu and a few cookies. My goodness were they amazing! I was excited to try this Asian inspired dessert shop located in the 4th St Market but the hours are a bit sporadic so I finally made it out recently. Santa Ana downtown is all metered street parking so be prepared to pay for parking. The stand is located right in front of the market so it isn't too hard to find. It's in the market so there's open seating and can get quite loud if there's a lot of people. Unfortunately, I was greeted very poorly when I got here. No one was available to help and periodically she would yell over to see if I was ready to order in a very bad tone. When I asked about the cheesecake selection, she said "you have to wait 30 min." I then asked what flavor it is and she said "pandan pineapple" in an annoyed tone. I asked if there were any other flavors and she said "no because I still need to decorate. You should really come later at night." I'm used to bakeries selling out later in the day but I guess it's opposite here. As if it couldn't get worse, I asked her if there are any coffees she recommended, and she said "viet coffee." I then said viet coffee is usually too strong for me and asked if there were any other recommendations and she doubled down and used a horrible tone to say "I already said I recommend the viet coffee." Therefore I opted to just not order coffee at this time. I ended up still ordering 2 cookies: miso toffee which was too firm and the ube coconut which actually was well balanced and had a nice coconut filling. Microbakery but macrotasty! Yup I made that word up too heh. I'm new to the 4th Street market so I admit I had to ask around to find this place amidst all the other vendors in this indoor mini-plaza. We typically avoid downtown areas because of their hustle-bustle and lack of parking. But we finally made it. Their flavors are unique and I applaud them for that. Ever since coming back from visiting Japan for the first time, I've been craving matcha everything, and I lamented not bringing more matcha cookies home from their 7-11 (their 7-11 is no joke, it's a snack heaven). When Yelp-searching for matcha cookies here back at home in the OC, only two legit results came up and this was the closer one. Upon our first visit we were disappointed to find they were sold out, which I should've expected. On our second visit we found they had had switched over to a rice Krispies version of it and other flavors, which weren't bad but I just really wanted my cookie heh. But as is often the case, 3rd time's a charm, the rice Krispies version was only temporary and they reverted back to the cookie. So I finally got it! Decent matcha flavor. Strawberry icing top center which complemented and did not overwhelm the matcha. The texture was just a little off, not as chewy as I would've liked, but I bet would've been better had we come earlier in the day. I thank them for saving this for us though! Yup we even called ahead of time to check inventory this time. Would I try it again? Uh, ya we ordered three more the following visit hah. Re: the other flavors, our favorites so far have been the yuzu early grey (cuz who with a tarty-palate doesn't love yuzu these days) and salty toffee (cuz who doesn't love sweet & salty, actually my kids don't heh). We needed a quick treat after a big dinner down the street so we walked through the 4th Street Market. When I saw this unique Asian inspired bakery, I knew this was the spot. This place was recommended by my friend for some small shareable treats. I stopped on a Saturday at around 1:30 PM. I needed to park on the street and walk over to this store located inside of a food hall. I had a few items that I planned to get but also browsed the menu for a few other ones as well. Overall, I placed an order for (1) chocolate chip miso cookie, (1) ube coconut cookie, (1) strawberry matcha cookie, (1) yuzu earl grey cookie, (1) hojicha tiramisu, and (1) pandan coconut tiramisu. All of these were really good! For the tiramisu, I'd personally recommend the hojicha. As for the cookie, I'd recommend the ube coconut cookie. Matcha strawberry: the bitterness and flavor of matcha shines with the strawberry bringing a good sweet balance. Would get this again. Miso chocolate chip: good, but nothing I would crave. Only giving 4 stars because I was so disappointed with the Banana Foster Tiramisu. I was really hoping to love it (it looked amazing!) but unfortunately, the flavor reminded me of nail polish. :/ I ordered the cookies too--and wow, they were outstanding! I tried the miso chocolate chip, pandan, Vietnamese mocha, and ube coconut. Every single one was delicious. I also ordered the ube and Vietnamese coffee tiramisus, so hopefully those taste better than the banana foster! Shoutout to Edward--he was super nice and helpful. Baked Banhs is a small shop within the Downtown Santa Ana mess hall that offers a variety of tiramisus with different flavors and other deserts. The worker was kind enough to let us sample different tiramisus before we purchased one. I tried the banana foster one which was also really good but ended up purchasing the matcha tiramisu. The matcha tiramisu was quite delicious though there was a slight unenjoyable bitter aftertaste and grittiness to the soaked ladyfingers that made me dock a star. Also got the strawberry matcha cookie though again there was that bitterness in their matcha and also the strawberry glaze in the middle was on the sour side, which I thought did not pair that well with the cookie personally. Located in a food hall in Santa Ana, Baked Banhs was a delightful treat! Went to 4th Street Market for their 1st Aloha Friday event and stumbled upon this vendor. The treats looked amazing so I had to give it a try. The friendly guy behind the counter told us all about the different items they had for sale. Everything looked yummy! I was intrigued by their tiramisu flavor of the month which was passionfruit mango so I bought it. I went back to my table and tried it. It was perfectly tart and bright and refreshing! I loved it! So much so that I went back to them to buy another tiramisu, this time ube. I also bought a Vietnamese Mocha and Miso Chocolate chip cookie. I brought it all home to enjoy with loved ones. This place is right when you enter through the door.  It has a cute little corner and a beautiful display case.   I wanted to try everything.  The people who work here are super nice and helpful.  The lady took the time to explain to me the flavors of the cookies.  We both shared the idea of how everything ube or cookies and cream can be overrated. These are the items I ordered: Sesame rocky road - It was nutty, almost like a peanut butter rocky road Vietnamese coffee - Delicious and chocolatey.  The coffee flavor is addicting Strawberry matcha:  First bite and smell you can taste the matcha and the rich earthiness of it.   Then it gets followed by the sweetness and tart of the strawberry Miso chocolate chip cookie:  I'm not going to lie. I was hesitant about this because of the miso.  After a while, I was talking to the lady who helped me. She explained it wasn't the thick saltiness kind of flavor from drinking miso soup.  It's actually really subtle.  It tasted like a salted chocolate chip cookie Mango passionfruit tiramisu :  First bite felt sweet, next was tart.  I was so amazed by the flavors that I couldn't stop eating it.  For some reason, I thought it was going to have coffee in it.   When I looked back at the picture, I realized what was going on. The flavors throughout made up the tiramisu. Matcha tiramisu:  This was silky smooth, and the matcha flavors just popped out at you.  It wasn't overly strong, but something about it was so comforting. My favorite was the strawberry matcha cookie and matcha tiramisu.  I surprisingly didn't think I'd like it this much.   I always tend to favor anything mango or chocolate. These are some of the best cookies I've ever had! I got three to try - Vietnamese Mocha, Yuzu Earl Grey, and Miso Chocolate Chip. Each cookie is $2.85 but they do offer 2 for $5, 3 for $7.50, or 4 for $10 (plus tax) Vietnamese Mocha (4/5) - This was very soft and chewy and you can definitely taste the mocha and hints of espresso. A little buttery but not too overpowering! Yuzu Earl Grey (4/5) - Loved the Earl Grey flavor and the Yuzu frosting on top definitely complements it. Miso Chocolate Chip (5/5) - Definitely my overall favorite. The cookie is kept on a warming plate so it's extremely soft and gooey when you first bite into it. Picked up a few cookies from here. We really enjoyed them- interesting flavor combos. I like that the cookies weren't overly huge or overly heavy. I'm not into overly indulgent cookies like crumbl. They change their flavors seasonally too and also sell various types of tiramisu. My boyfriend was in the Santa Ana area and got some yummy baked goods from Baked Banhs. The biscoff canele combined two of my favorite things and I think it worked! The canele was crispy and caramel-y on the outside with a chewy inside. The biscoff filling was rich but also featured crunchy cookie bits. I will say that may because of the filling, the inside of the canele was a little on the moist side, but overall it was tasty with the textural contrasts and combination of flavors! At first I didn't think too much about the cookies but it wasn't until my second bite that I realized they had a filling in the middle! The ube coconut was probably favorite out of the two I tried. The coconut flakes brought out the ube flavors and had a new chew. The pandan had a pineapple filling in the middle that grew on me. Baked Banhs is the cutest little microbakery located in the 4th Street Market known for their thoughtfully crafted cookies and Asian inspired desserts. The storefront is in the front half of the market so it's easy to spot- also, it's easier to eat dessert before dinner (just saying). There's a reason why the miso chocolate chip cookie is their best seller. This is definitely the best chocolate chip cookie I've ever had. I usually don't reach for cakey cookies.. I'm more of a chewy, soft texture cookie gal. So this cookie was right up my alley. Flavorwise, its not too sweet with a nice salty component that evens out the palate. The miso flavor is subtle so you can still appreciate the deep rich chocolate notes. The Ube cheesecake is equally as impressive. The contrast in the starchy ube base compared to the cream cheese makes each bite enjoyable through and through. The white icing on top was delicious as well adding a sweeter component to the not-so-sweet cheesecake. I could do with less of the icing though. The cheesecake is fabulous all on its own. Service is super friendly and sweet. Theres a large amount of seating within the 4th Street Market so you can grab some cookies and catch up with some friends. There is a parking garage conveniently located right behind the market. The quality of the baked goods is truly impressive and with a lot of dessert options in Santa Ana, Baked Banhs does a great job standing out with their creative take on Asian flavored desserts. If you want authentic, bold flavors and also experience some international flavors for those taste buds of yours, this is the place. The flavors here are not subtle. If you want you green tea flavor its a strong green tea flavor, if you want yuzu, bam you got it, if you want coffee, is a bold coffee cookie. I haven't tasted anything artificial or just mere ingredients to make "flavoring." My husband and I would often come in the evening when most of the delicious cookies are sold out. By the time we arrive most of the top or popular cookies are sold out but despite the ones we do end up getting are still super delicious. I can't imagine how it would be if we caught up to the flavors that usually sell out earlier. We have visited here about 3-4x now and we love that their flavors switch out. Bakery is located inside 4th street market. They are infront next to a cafe. I noticed the tiramisu upon arriving and was intrigued by the variety of Asian flavors: Thai tea, Vietnamese coffee, ube, and matcha. It took me a few minutes but we I ended up with choosing their recommended top flavor: Vietnamese coffee. They also serve many cookie flavors: miso chocolate chip cookies, earl gray yuzu cookies, viet mocha cookie, matcha strawberry cookies, and so on. There was a deal: 2 for $5 cookies. Cookie size is not as big but the crazy flavors are interesting. The cashier recommended the miso chocolate chip and yuzu early gray cookies. We fell in love with the viet coffee tiramisu! It's the perfect thickness and flavor. The cookies are okay. I am not a fan of yuzu so the miso chocolate chip was better. I feel like the cookies are a bit small for the price. I'd come back to try other tiramisu flavors next time. I think they rotate on the flavors. read more

These cookies are delicious and big!! I ordered the Strawberry Matcha, Yuzu Earl Grey, & Miso Chocolate Chip. My top favorite was the strawberry Matcha- I love how earthy it tastes with the sweet strawberry drizzle on top. Yuzu earl grey has a nice strong earl grey flavor with the citrus flavor shining through. Miso Chocolate Chip is always a solid flavor. All of the cookies are fresh and soft. The store is located inside the 4th Street Market & service is quick and friendly. I'll be back to try more treats from here! read more

Thanks (again) to Yelp, this little place popped up on my radar -- leading us to make our first visit to 4th Street Market! Friendly, helpful, and patient service. It's rare that we come across Cream Puffs with a whipped cream filling (vs. all or part custard filled). Everything we ordered was delicious: the Cream Puffs (4/$9.50), the Ube Basque Cheesecake ($7.50), and the cookie assortment!! This spot is definitely a favorite for desserts, and has me desiring to return, again... soon! read more

Found this place inside the 4th street market, It's right at the entrance when you walk in, can't miss it. I really like the cookie options that are available at this place. So far I've tried the Strawberry Matcha, Vietnamese Mocha, and Yuzu cookie. All of them are really good. My favorite was probably the mocha one. The yuzu one is interesting, I think there's sichuan pepper in there or something but it gives the cookie a unique taste that is definitely worth a shot. I love the creativity of the options and would definitely stop by again if I'm in the area. Service was quick and friendly. read more

Oh my gosh, these cookies were PHENOMENAL! Baked Bahns is located inside of the 4th Street Market where there are other eateries with tables to eat at inside the market as well. I only tried the cookies this time but my two favorites were the Strawberry Matcha which had really rich ceremonial grade Matcha flavor and the Yuzu Earl Grey. They also have cakes and cheesecakes on the menu which I will have to try next time. The people working the counter were really lovely and when you're making a purchase you get 6% off 6 items and 12% off 12 items. When I arrived the cookies were extremely fresh and still a little warm, so it doesn't get better than that. In terms of parking, there is street parking outside and lots nearby. It's a very vibrant area with lots to do and see and very walkable and many shops as well. read more
