We found this place one day when my hubby and I came to visit his brother who lives up the street. I was in the mood for Pollo asado or roasted chicken so I did a Google search and El Pollo Imperial popped up as the closest place to get some. We walked in and the place looked small but clean. They emediately seated us then served us a small bowl of delicious chicken soup. I ordered the half chicken meal which I shared with my son and my hubby ordered a chicken stir fry kind of meal and a fried calamari appetizer. Everything came with a simple green salad and your choice of two sides (veggies, fries, or white rice). The chicken was out of this world tasty and perfectly prepared. It was moist, tender and scrumptious. My friend's dinner was tasty as well. The service was great. The prices were more than I expected for a little hole in the wall but not too bad and well worth it. The only somewhat negative thing I have to say is that since the restaurant is quite small, the restroom is just a few feet from the eating area but you can sit wherever you want so we always sit across the room from it. Honestly if it wasn't so good I probably wouldn't have gone back specifically because of this but we've been back many times since we first discovered it 7 years ago. If the restroom thing is an issue, order ahead and take it to go. You won't regret it. read more

The wife and I ate here last weekend and enjoyed our meals enormously. My wife is Peruvian and we have eaten at many of the Peruvian restaurants in greater L.A. and Orange Counties. Although we have several favorites, El Pollo Imperial has jumped to the top of our list. I had the Saltado de Pollo, and my wife, the Aji de Gallina. Both were very tasty and perfectly prepared. The chicken in the Saltado de Pollo was firm, neither hard nor mushy, and the fried potatoes were well prepared and not soggy. The dish, which was served with a generous portion of rice, was simmered to perfection in a delicious sauce, which included cooked tomatoes and onions. The Aji de Gallina, made with shredded chicken breast and prepared in walnut gravy with bread and milk, was totally delicious. Too much for my wife to finish in one sitting; we took half of it home with us. Their aji, a hot sauce made with Peruvian yellow chillies, was pleasantly spicy and very tasty. Also, the service was great and the young ladies who waited the tables were very attentive. All told, it was an excellent experience and we definitely plan to come back here as often as possible to try some of their other dishes. We recommend El Pollo Imperial highly! read more

Let's start with the positives - the food was outstanding. El Pollo Imperial specializes in Peruvian cuisine, and they certainly know how to deliver on flavor. The star of the show was their perfectly roasted chicken, which was juicy, tender, and bursting with Peruvian spices. The accompanying green sauce was a delightful complement, adding a spicy kick that elevated the dish. However, my dining experience was marred by the slow service during my visit. Despite the restaurant not being particularly crowded, it took an unexpectedly long time for our orders to be taken, and the wait for our food was even more excruciating. This was especially disappointing, as it detracted from what could have been a perfect dining experience. Heard good things about the place and finally decided to come. The place is not in the best area of the city and from the outside looks like a dive. Not a place you see and say "Hey I want to go in there". Looks like they created this restaurant in an abandoned El Pollo Loco and spray painted over the sign. In walk in and it looks much better inside than outside. They gave us complimentary rolls and chicken soup. I start with the shrimp ceviche which was great and had a lot of shrimp. the papa rellenas was goodthe meat was good. The yuka frita was good, I loved the sauce. We ordered the Lomo Saltado which had surprisingly way more meat than fries, which I think should have a little more fries, but I'm not complaining at all it was great. We also ordered the Chaufa de Pollo and it was a huge plate. For dessert we had picarones and they were delicious and the best way to end the meal. The quality here was great, and the portions are huge, you will most likely be leaving with leftovers. Will definitely recommend this place and I'll be back for sure. read more

Man in drive-thru extremely rude. I placed order via phone so my hubby could pick it up. Hubby already had a bad experience there with that same rude man. This time around the heavy set dark black haired man had the nerve to tell him " sentido común usa tu cabeza" which translates to , use common sense use your brain " ... I was like omg he went over this time. I have personally been eating there for years and honestly I would cringe when I saw he would be serving our table. Used to like this place but won't be going back. Service is bad now and over priced. Seats were dirty, I called in my order and they never even made it, arrived and had to wait 15 more minutes to have them make it. Listening to staff fight each other over orders, talk bad about other customers. I then get home and they gave me the wrong order!!! I was so mad I called them and clueless lady says "oh yea we have your correct order here" I just hung up on her!! Never going back. One of the best Pollo a la brasa in town! Sure it doesn't have the same atmosphere as El Pollo Inka but the food is good. I have noticed their prices have gone up a bit and parking can be be hard on a busy day. The Ceviche Mixto is also one of my favorites when I visit this place, and of course the Inka cola to go with it. I would like to see their customer service improve and their decor to match with their rising prices. It could have passed as a huge pita chip, it was so hard like a pita chip. Everything but the pita were just ok. Nothing spectacular. The Pita was terrible. The quality and consistency that I've been used to, has lacked the past 3 orders. Not sure what has happened to this restaurant. In the past you didn't have to ask for every sauce plate came with. Only sauce included was a green sauce. No garlic paste/sauce nor hot sauce. I usually enjoy my meal when sauces are included. To conclude, my meal also got me feeling sick to my stomach after eating. Needless to say you've lost a loyal customer with the inconsistency of your meals.

Our tastebuds I think has evolved or the quality has changed a bit. While we ended up satisfied with the ceviche we ordered, it definitely felt like there were some things missing. We ordered the fish ceviche, pulpo, and the shrimp. Of all, my favorite was the shrimp. My husband also ordered a campechana, which felt lighter than others we've had before. You cannot beat the prices though. The ceviches were less than $3, so I guess if you're looking for bargain ceviche, this would be your spot!

Perhaps because we were the first to order before a gang of people pulled up, but the food was done in 19 mins and by the weight of the food in the bag I was surprised. Essentially, the food was a great choice due to taste and portion size, and accessibility. I ended up crashing my entire plate. My mom still had leftovers. If I could give a critique, at the bottom of the veggies was a lot of liquid--I would guess that it was due to the condensation created in the container (that would be something you cant really control). My mother had the same comment for her noodles but she mentioned they were saucy so maybe thats just how they are prepared, and she thought it would have more garlic emphasis.
