My boyfriend's brother did the ordering since he's been here a lot. He ordered: Peruvian Cebiche: which was the catch of the day, tiger milk, ahi Amarillo, concha, and sweet potato. It was so delicious! I believe the catch of the day was either scallop or white fish which was in the tiger milk and ahi Amarillo sauce which was a sour like sauce which pairs well with the fish. It was also a great dipping sauce for the other sushi we got. If I could, I would have slurped the whole thing (the sauce) lol. Blue Fin Sashimi: with kizami wasabi and special soy sauce. If you have tried blue fin you are missing out. The sashimi just melts in your mouth and has such an easy chew to it. Sushi Nikkei Tasting (8 pc sushi): consists of 2 pcs of sweet salmon (parrillera sauce), tuna power (parrillera sauce, aji Amarillo, and chalaquita), Parmesan scallops, and Asian shiromi (white fish, Asian sauce, quinoa pop, and lemon). My boyfriend and I had 1 pc each. The salmon and Parmesan scallops were my favorite. My boyfriend's favorite was the Asian shiromi and tuna power. All the toppings complimented each other so well. Who knew?! Acebichado: which was a specialty roll with crispy shrimp, avocado topped with tuna, acebicado sauce, togarashi, and green onion Dusty roll: which was another specialty roll with crispy shrimp, avocado topped with octopus in ninja sauce, Parmesan, and tare OBA roll: which was another specialty roll that had crispy salmon, avocado topped with salmon , parrillera, jalapeno sauce, and chalaquita All the rolls were good and the different sauces complimented each other and the fish. We got there when it was lunch time so it wasn't too busy or too loud. The service was great as the servers always checked up on us. Went for dinner last night and had some delicious food. Not the first time here and won't be the last. Was disappointed in the service at first since we have 5 people including my 1 1/2 year old son. Host said he only had a table for 4 which I figured was fine with a high chair When I asked the server for the high chair the host ran over saying we could not have it because it was in the way of the server. There was another table on the other end that wasn't in the "walkway" and host said it's reserved even though it was still only for 4. Wasn't extremely busy so got frustrated with this response as at first there was no solution provided. About 1-2 minutes later they offered to combine a third table to "reroute" the server path and we were able to eat with my child. Server and rest of staff were great and turned the experience around. Food was delicious including octopus fire, bluefin tuna tasting , Ginza Maki roll , Bixby Roll and the Acebichado. The three of us came here on a Friday night and thankfully we were seated right away. A bit busy but glad we were able to just pop right in! First time experiencing sushi Peruvian style. Sounded like an interesting twist. Both kinds of food are respectfully delicious in their own ways. For starters, we shared most of the appetizers, so we did the hamachi tostada. Super fresh and a nice flavorful bite. We also shared the jalapeño yellowtail and octopus fire. Both were really good but just a bit too much sauce. That's the only thing that separated the finish, aside from that, the fish was fresh. For sushi we did, salmon belly, blue fin tuna, and yellow tail belly. Def enjoyed these three pieces. Wife and I ordered blue crab hand roll, delicious. We were still hungry and ordered a couple of rolls. Nothing too spectacular, again a bit too much sauce in my opinion. Great umami flavor and just a little heat. The Tuna Taco was the star. Super fresh tuna, crispy shell, and a squeeze of lime that made it pop. I could have eaten a full plate. The fish was very fresh, buttery, and decadent. Each dish tasted handcrafted with attention to detail. This was my third time here, and it made me a fan, much more than my other visits! This is my first time at the Bixby Knolls location, so it could just be that it's better than the Belmont Shore location. Sushi Nikkei is a unique experience, blending sushi with Peruvian cuisine. It's a fantastic date night spot for adventurous foodies. Here's what I got that I think really made Sushi Nikkei shine: Scallops - These grilled scallops are small, but pack a punch with smoky charred flavors from the grill, tender scallops, and crispy crunchies from the popped quinoa. This is a great starter. Tuna Tacos - These are simple and delicious. One to two bites of crisp, refreshing, flavorful tuna tartare in a light, flaky fried wonton shell. Tostada - This was good, but a goof one to pass on if you're choosing between appetizers. It's a good sample of all of the fresh flavors available, but the tuna tacos are just a similar and better option. Nikkei Tasting - The Nikkei tasting is the perfect way to try what Peruvian sushi means. It's a fun encapsulation of what flavors they want to bring forward in their dishes. All of the pieces are very unique, flavorful, and fun to try. I've gotten this every single time I've been here and I have not regretted it. Unknown Tiradito - I am always underwhelmed by their tiraditos/ceviche situations, so it makes sense why I can't remember what this one was called. I also can't find the name on their menus, but I've included it in the photos here. They're fresh, but to me, the flavors are always a little wonky. This one in particular was relying on the flavor of a high quality olive oil, but it never came through. Lava Scallops - We added this one as a bite to our Nikkei tasting. It has a plump, juicy piece of scallop. Shinjuku - The shinjuku is a must order, and our favorite Nikkei bite of the night. It was simple, delicious, and a perfect way to showcase the quality of their fish and flavors. I had a group dinner here, so we all had a blast trying lots of different things. Tried Sushi Nikkei in Bixby Knolls and we went all in with PACK 3. Spicy edamame to start, tuna tacos (so freaking good), and their Nikkei style sushi lineup was delicious. On top of that you get two specialty rolls for the cost of $72 for everything which felt like such a deal. We picked the Acebichado and OBA Roll, then got a little extra and added the Belmont Roll and HotTuna. Zero regrets, with sushi I feel like we can throw it down and eat a ton lol. The Belmont Roll and Acebichado were my top faves, totally worth it. The OBA Roll wasn't really my thing since the cooked salmon. HotTuna gave a spicy little kick, loved that one too! We arrived and ordered drinks, not sure how server list track - but another table was set, guests sat down, they got drinks and we had to remind our waiter. Also ordered Spicy Edamame, but received plain - as this was in middle of meal and we'd already received the rest of our order it wasn't worthy to mention. As far as food - sooooo good. We love the Acebichado rolls and Rock Shrimp tempura. There has been a hiccup with service nearly everyone we've been here - but it's been small and it doesn't bother us that much. Decided to come back to Sushi Nikkei for Mothers Day. Had a 5PM reservation for 2 plus a stroller and we loved that they accommodated us. The fish quality was just as good as I remember it and everything looked fantastic. Their menu is super unique and the place is definitely good for trying something new despite the heavy prices. The main issue we had both last year and this visit was service. Our waiter was super nice and friendly, but this is the second time that the staff either forgot part of our order or delivered it to the wrong table. We ended up waiting quite a while for (3) items. We kept waiting and a couple times they came to check on us but never came back with a response. After the 3rd or 4th time they checked on us, it finally came. That ambiance was cute and I loved the Latin music playing in the background. Japanese and Peruvian food are my favorites so of course I have to try this place. Order: Sushi Nikkei tasting - I love a nigiri set and really liked 2/4 of them. The salmon melted in your mouth the hamachi (I think) with miso was also really good. The two I wasn't a huge fan of had fresh fish but I wasn't blown away by the sauce on the second one and the Parmesan cheese on the scallops was a bit much for me. Acebichado roll - I like this one, good ratio of toppings, sauce and rice. I thought it was interesting that pretty much all the rolls had shrimp tempura in them, not a lot of variation. Oba roll - this was good but a bit too saucy for me. Bluefin tuna shiso - like a carpaccio, I thought the flavors were there and so delicious! Softshell crab - fried to perfection and the aioli was a good compliment. Overall I realized I am more of a traditional sushi eater rather than fusion. Nonetheless I would come back if I am in town. If you're going to Nikkei Sushi, do yourself a favor and go straight for Pack 3. It's a full spread... spicy edamame, (2) tuna tacos, Peruvian style nigiri, and OBA & Acebichado specialty rolls. It's basically the ultimate sampler. On top of that, I'd highly recommend adding the Belmont and HotTuna rolls. Both are absolutely amazing. Belmont brings a perfect mix of richness and freshness, while the HotTuna delivers just the right amount of kick without being too overpowering. The only downside was the service. Our waitress felt a bit dull and didn't really guide us through the menu or help with recommendations, which took away from the overall vibe. The food did make up for it. Overall, Nikkei Sushi nails the fusion of flavors and variety. Pack 3 plus those extra rolls is a combo I'd come back for more. read more
