First, time at this Pollo Loco. The ambience here is very quiet and relaxed if you want a peaceful meal while dining inside. The grandson wanted roasted chicken so I had to drive 20 miles to come get him some roasted chicken. Walked up to the counter to order and I noticed that it's mainly kiosks for you to do your own order. Angel came to my rescue And gave great customer service. The food offerings here are always delicious and a newly remodeled dining room is cool. I would give them five stars EXCEPT for the new point of sale ordering system. (all their locations have gone to this) If I can't order face-to-face with a person, Then I'm not eating there. Stopped by for dinner and was honestly blown away. I've had El Pollo Loco in different places, but this Gilroy location just hits different. The lady that helped was so rude and disrespectful. Forced me to sign a receipt saying my order is complete before handing over my order. She kept going back and forth with me saying I HAVE to sign this saying all my order is there before she can hand over my food. How am I suppose to verify the order is correct if she won't hand it over? She just kept being so condescending and passive aggressive saying all my food is there. She finally gave my my food after I signed and I left. Once I got home because I was just so annoyed of being there, I saw that I did not get any of my tortillas, no forks and I was missing a large side. It makes me even worried to eat my food because she was being so rude. How am I suppose to trust it's safe to eat? If I am paying for something I would like to confirm I am getting everything I paid for and not be robbed out of money for food I did not receive. Honestly, this address is quick, always accurate, with food always hot and fresh. They are polite, and ask if they can help with anything else. The restaurant is clean...maybe the tables need an occasional wiping but that is only when busy at noon. read more

04/10/23 Monday night around 20 minutes before closing, Noel was not very talkative but he did his job and gave us what we needed. We came from out of town and were in a hurry to get to San Jose, not really familiar with the menu, Noel helped us with our order. Visit was "mediocre" yesterday. This location does not have lemon anymore and they were very defensive when I asked for it. Geeeze...... charge for it but don't eliminate it. My husband and I had lunch here today. Since many more holidays are coming up el pollo has new menu appeals. For instance the new tamale bowls. These are excellent. The rice is bland but i enjoyed the taste and texture of the tamales and chicken. Sooo delicious. I put onions with extra queso fresco on mine and it really makes a difference so i recommend it. The chicken avocado burrito was excellent. Of course el pollo loco is known for their chicken so no surprise there. The buffet of salsas includes Serrano peppers that are always spicy. I go to pollo loco quite a few time. I happen to stop at this one while traveling., and I got to say it's been the best pollo loco I have ever had. The chicken was juice not dry. I haven't been here in years and it was a big disappointment. They used to have a sweet corn thing like Chevys has but the lady was clueless as to what I was talking about. I ordered a kids being rice and cheese burrito with the mac & cheese and also a shrimp cheddar bacon grilled burrito. The BRC burrito had no flavor. The ice machine was out and they didn't have cup lids or lids for the salsa containers. It was oh so much of an inconvenience to get ice and a lid for the soda. My burrito was a huge disappointment. It was the same size as a Taco Bell bean burrito. It had a grand total of six shrimp that were a little hard you could tell that they been sitting for quite some time and it was as if I was eating a cup of salt. There was maybe a tablespoon of avocado in it total. It was $7.49 for this tiny tiny burrito which I could've went to super Taqueria and got two full-size burritos for this price. My husband and I like the healthy choices and delicious chicken el pollo loco offers so we decided to try the remodeled one in town . We have the opportunity to try various el pollo locos on our monthly travels so it's easy to make the comparison. This location had problems before the fire and I had hoped those were resolved with the new restaurant. Today we ordered take out and once again the order was missing some items . In addition , I noticed in the past that the food is much smaller in quantity than the other El Pollo Locos we go to . This continues to be the case today . For example, I almost always order the chicken tostada and can make a meal of it for 2-3 days . Today the shell was barely filled to 1/2, same as before the remodel .
